The only issue with that was getting him to eat it and as expected her brother was a tough nut to crack. The moment she caught up with him and shoved the skewer in his face she said, "Here, for you."
Anyone anywhere who has a little demon for a sibling knows that when they suddenly play nice it's either they want something or they are sick of your shit and want to end you..... or possibly get you into trouble. So when Rui Li showed up with a beef jerky shrivelled piece of meat he definitely knew something was up.
With narrowed eyes, he looked at the nice smelling but suspicious-looking meat then stared back at her. "I am not hungry," he said while staring at the meat like it was a venomous serpent.
Rui Li who was determined to make his brother eat it had no choice but to resort to cutesy methods just to screw her brother over. "For once I thought of my big brother who worked so hard to save that poor boy and you won't... won't even accept my goodwill," she said with one of her hands behind her back as she kicked the pebbles on the ground with her head lowered.
Rui Yewan would be a fool to believe her but like Rui Fei, he was vulnerable to his little sister's cute side. This was one of the rare moments that she got to act her age and they found it hard to disappoint her when she was like this.
"Wan Wan doesn't like me," she said playing the perfect role of white lotus, "just one bite, please. I made it myself."
The 'I made it myself' was enough to make him cringe but he still felt bad refusing her so he asked, "Did you try it before? What did it taste like?"
This question had Rui Li's expression stiffen but in truth, she was resisting the urge to scrunch up her face like she ate a lemon. No, a lemon tasted delicious compared to this meat. It was like a durian had a baby with a bull penis and got served as an entree. Now don't go on asking how she knew what bull penis tastes like. Some things are best left unsaid.
Now she understood why Rui Fei didn't stop her before from experimenting. He knew it would end up like this but refused to stop her. She corrected her expression and said, "It tasted great but I need your opinion."
Rui Yewan sighed while thinking, 'It can't be that bad, right?' Since his sister was extending a kind hand to him it would be rude to refuse, right? He took the skewer and studied it carefully before bringing it close to his lips to take a tiny nibble.
As the skewer got closer and closer to his lips Rui Li's smile grew wider and wider like the grinch.
Unfortunately, right before his lips touched the skewer a loud shout was heard coming from the night sky. The voice was familiar to the both of them but what was he doing in the dark night? "DON'T EAT THE SKEWERS.... IT TASTES LIKE SHHHHHHIIIIIITTTTTT!!!!" yelled Xunshi Zhe as he flew by after receiving a ruthless attack from Captain Zhang. It seemed the negotiations broke down between them and Xunshi Zhe got the boot.
Rui Li, "..... He, he is lying."
Rui Yewan, "..."
While everyone walked in groups filling the atmosphere with positive vibes, at the back of the pack the mood was low. The teen who had been scolded the moment he woke up had his head hung low seeming dejected.
Well, at least it appeared so to Old Du who was rambling on non-stop about his medicines, poisons and experiments he had conducted before. The reason he kept yammering on about things to the little boy was because he was trying to lighten the mood.
This little boy screamed emotional and physical abuse at a first glance. His story was indeed tragic and the moment he felt a little warmth from someone he suddenly imprinted on them. Unfortunately, the person who was so kind to him feeding him medicine and embracing him was a big brother with a jealous boyfriend.
He didn't harbour any inappropriate thoughts about the big brother and wouldn't interfere in their relationship. He simply wanted to be his little brother and follow him wherever he went. Why couldn't they share?
He looked down at his hands that slowly healed from the wounds caused in the fight when that vile creature was controlling his body. The wounds soon became blurred as tears filled his eyes. Why was anything good taken from him. First, it was his mother then every privilege that he used to have as the future village chief and now this? Why him though. What crime did he commit in his previous life that made him deserve such?
As a tear dropped on his hand his shoulders were suddenly grasped as a hand wrapped around him. When he looked up he was met by a black-haired older brother with dark eyes and to his left was a little sister dressed in orange. When and how they had got here, he had no idea.
"Excuse our saozi. He is very jealous so I would suggest you don't mess with either of them," said Rui Yewan.
"I know they are handsome and cool but if you mess with them they won't hesitate to.....," she said making a slitting throat gesture. She held out a skewer before him and said, "Here, my gesture of goodwill... After you eat this you are now part of the team."
The poor fella who had no idea how horrible that skewer tasted wiped away his tears and enthusiastically received it. Two seconds later he was bent over at a bush throwing up. Rui Yewan patted his back as he comforted him, "There, there. Don't take it to heart. This means you are a part of the team now."
The little demon who had incited this was rolling on the ground in laughter. She was like a ghoul delighting in other people's misfortunes. Too bad Rui Yewan didn't taste it. She would have loved to see his disgusted face.
It's a good thing everyone was having the time of their lives enjoying each other's company pulling pranks and the likes. Such moments should be considered precious and should be cherished. That is to say, after this adventure things would never be the same.. Hopefully, the big family would have each other's backs when shit goes down.
