Chapter 27 - Coming Of Age Gift

Playing the role of a weak chicken had never been this exhilarating. Rui Fei especially loved the act of playing the damsel in distress because he got to step aside and watch someone else take care of him.

Maybe the words 'take care of him' were a bit exaggerated when considering the fact that he had just been mercilessly thrown to the ground just now. But let's not burst his bubble lest he takes offence.

While Rui Fei was stuck in his flight of fancy, Ji Yao was obliterating the two men without a second thought. He could tell these men were at a whole different level than what he was used to but he still managed to take them on.

As he fought Ji Wen didn't forget to tease him while he was at it. "I see you found yourself a wife," said Ji Wen finding this situation rather amusing. What are the chances of a girl running straight into Ji Yao's arms in the middle of nowhere?

It was like a pie literally fell from the sky of its own initiative. He would have thought this was an elaborate well thought out scheme if it weren't for how weak this person was.

With all his suspicions gone he embarked on a journey titled 'how to embarrass your son in front of a girl'. Let's forgive him for this because he hadn't heard Rui Fei's voice earlier and still assumed that he had a peach down there.

"This is fate. The universe is trying to revoke your single's card," said Ji Wen with his hands arched around his mouth like a funnel to increase the decibels of his voice. With all that fighting it was incredibly difficult for Ji Yao to hear.

Rui Fei's brow furrowed as he looked back at Ji Wen with a 'what did he say' type of expression. Also, the fact that Ji Wen was trying to pair him with Ji Yao instantly clarified their relationship. The stamp of an old cow eating young tender grass was finally erased from his forehead.

Ji Wen felt the little miss' boring gaze so he attempted to smooth things over. "No offence intended. It's just that my son is having a hard time getting a girlfriend so please don't mind me," explained Ji Wen calming the little miss. He didn't want them being labelled as perverts from their first meeting.

Ji Yao slashed his sabre at the man's chest with brutal strength before he finally interjected in this absurd conversation. "I am not looking, for, a girlfriend....," he spoke as his sabre clashed with his opponent's sword. The pressure from the two opposing forces was so powerful that it pushed both of them back due to a massive explosion.

Ji Yao steadied his footsteps as cracks of lightning spread all over his sabre. "Plus he is a boy," he said before launching an offensive attack this time much more ruthless than before.

Ji Wen's eyes widened as he took a closer look at the miss still seated on the ground. It seemed the peach wasn't a peach after all but a cucumber. Blaming it on his poor eyesight he nervously laughed it off apologizing to the sister that was actually a brother.

With the swing of his sword, Ji Yao delivered a final blow at one of the assassins which ultimately led the remaining one to make a break for it. Unwilling to let this man go he followed behind in pursuit through whatever was remaining of the forest.

"Ah-Yao!" called out Ji Wen but his son didn't hear his call or if he did he chose to ignore it. Feeling a sense of uneasiness he stood up and followed after him. He had no idea what lay ahead and wasn't willing to put his son's safety on the line.

While Ji Wen was following behind, Ji Yao had already caught up with the assassin. He was just about to block the incoming attack when the assassin's body was suddenly pierced by a sharp blade from behind. The blade protruded through the man's chest as blood began to seep out from the wound and the corner of the man's lips.

Ji Yao who had his sabre mid-air was a little perplexed staring at the assassin. As he opened his mouth to speak the blade was pulled out before the man's body tumbled to the ground. His gaze followed the falling body wondering what was going on and when he raised his head he was met by the masked man dressed in maroon.

His heart jolted in fright as he hadn't sensed this man's presence at all. Ji Yao involuntarily swung his sabre toward the man. But before it could barely touch him the masked man raised his hand and the sabre that was once in Ji Yao's hand was flung away by a powerful force stabbing straight into a tree stump.

Ji Yao looked on in disbelief before preparing to retaliate. A sizzling electric disc formed in his hands but before he could fire he heard the man speak, "Your highness," as he kowtowed before him.

He had come with the sole purpose of protecting the little prince from that Huishe clan person. Since he was still working for Prince Rui he brought along Prince Rui's men under the guise of finding the missing escapees. Knowing Ji Yao's strength he didn't intervene earlier neither did he expect one of Prince Rui's men to lead Ji Yao to him.

That man probably wanted to draw Ji Yao over to him so that he (the masked man) could kill the boy but the likelihood of that happening was zero. It was this elaborate plan that got him killed.

The masked man rose to his feet and took a closer look at this little prince. He looked exactly like his mother and his temperament was pretty much the same. Feeling honoured he reached for his belt causing Ji Yao to vigilantly take a step back.

The man raised both his hands in front of him in as a gesture that he meant no harm before taking out a sword with the Qilin crest on its hilt. "Take it..... it's, it's for you," he said handing it to him.

Ji Yao's brows creased as the lightning discs in his hands vanished. Just as he reached out and took the sheathed sword from him a powerful ball of lightning came flying towards the masked man. Lucky for him, he was much more powerful than Ji Wen so he easily dodged before vanishing on the spot.

"You fuckin coward!" yelled Ji Wen extremely dissatisfied. Now he understood why he was better off keeping Ji Yao on the ship because none of these groping or assault incidences would have occurred. This was too much stimulation for him and he just wanted to wrap this little eggy in foam wrap and lock him up in his cabin on Red Bane.

He turned to face his son only to find him holding a sheathed sword. "Tsk...... didn't I tell you not to accept things from strangers? Just because you are eighteen it doesn't mean the rule has changed," he said grabbing the sword from him.
