Chapter 49 - Awkward

He was even considering bunking with his father though he knew that man would probably do something he didn't like just to kick him out. Just as he was thinking he would rather take his chances with Ji Wen, the sliding door suddenly opened and he met with Rui Fei's expectant gaze.

"Yao-ge," he said before stepping aside.

Ji Yao, "...."

He was just about to run off when this kid unexpectedly opened the door and that eager look on his face left Ji Yao at a loss. Since he had already been caught he might as well enter the room.

What he didn't know was that Rui Fei had seen the shadow of his feet at the door. When he saw Ji Yao turning one foot to leave Rui Fei took the initiative to open the door. Sure enough, this man was too thin-skinned to flee.

He silently watched as Ji Yao placed his sword on the bookshelf without saying a word.

He didn't know what Ji Yao was thinking but from what he saw this older brother seemed very uncomfortable being around him. Deciding to break the ice he asked, "Is Yao-ge still upset with me?" with his fist propping the side of his face.

Ji Yao took a side glance in his direction and was about to say no when he saw that Rui Fei was sitting with one leg on the couch with his elbow on the armrest propping up his face.

His eyes widened as he said, "Take your foot off the couch and sit properly." The awkwardness from earlier had vaporized with that one sentence.

Rui Fei also noticed the change and hopped off the couch with a beaming smile. "Ah Yao-ge, I thought you don't care about me anymore. It seems to get Yao-ge's attention I have to do bad things, is that it?" he said with gradual footsteps as he approached Ji Yao.

"Yao-ge was so upset with me that he even locked me out of the deep caves. Is it that Yao-ge didn't want to see me that much?" he asked as his steps paused half a foot close to Ji Yao's face.

Ji Yao took a step back and wanted to retort but he swallowed his words when he heard the second statement. What, how and when? He had no idea what Rui Fei was talking about.

"What do you mean?" he asked genuinely confused. Anyone and everyone could enter the caves though the consequences thereof were according to his father an illusion difficult to extricate oneself from. No one had ever been locked out.

"There is no point in denying it.... I understand I shouldn't have touched your things and I promise I won't do it again," said Rui Fei before reaching out to pull his arm, "so as an apology I want to give you something."

Ji Yao, "WTF!"

He looked at the large hand holding his arm and looked at Rui Fei then back at the hand. For a moment he was stupefied not knowing how to react. He felt a little discomfort at first but the feeling left as quickly as it came.

Rui Fei tried pulling Ji Yao along but this older brother didn't move an inch so he turned to look at him only to be met by a dark pair of eyes like he had molested him. He suddenly felt it was easier to offend Ji Yao than it is to offend a Virgo.

One wrong word and this young master would get upset. "Let go," said Ji Yao in an imperious tone that was meant to be obeyed. Ji Yao didn't wish for their interactions to graduate to a touchy-feely level despite knowing that currently on this planet Rui Fei was the only one he wouldn't reject that is not counting his father.

Rui Fei nervously laughed as he let go and gestured with his hand for this great lord to take a seat.

Ji Yao gave him a side-eye before sitting down. He was curious as to what sort of apology gift Rui Fei would offer up. Rui Fei sat opposite him and took out a black bag which he placed on the table. He knew Rui Li's flower idea was a little far fetched plus where was he going to get a bunch of flowers in the middle of the night.

So he decided to give Ji Yao something he already had. Correction, not something he already had but something he robbed from Rui Yewan.

Two doors away, Rui Yewan had also discovered he had been robbed and the only plausible culprit could only be Rui Fei. When they found this thing by accident, Rui Fei had given it to him but now it turns out it was only given to him for safekeeping.

Ji Yao who had no idea he was holding stolen goods opened the black velvet bag only to find a black gemstone inside. His heart jolted as he scrutinized this so-called apology gift. It was exactly the same as the keystones his father was looking for so how did it end up in Rui Fei's hand.

"You...," said Ji Yao but he didn't finish his sentence dumbfounded.

Rui Fei was smiling but when he saw Ji Yao's reaction his smile faltered. "What? You don't like it?"

Ji Yao finally raised his head to look at him and asked, "Where did you get this?"

"Ha, are you accusing me of something?" replied Rui Fei suddenly going on the defence.

Ji Yao, "....."

"No, I just want to know where you got it? You know what, never mind....," said Ji Yao as he stood up to leave.

Rui Fei stood up as well and followed him as he said, "If you don't like it then I will find something else for you," before swiping the gemstone out of Ji Yao's hand.

Ji Yao looked at his empty hand with a dumbfounded look on his face. "I didn't say I don't like it now give it to me," he said but the playful Rui Fei was suddenly in a teasing mood.

"Tell me what it is first then I will give it to you," replied Rui Fei clenching his fist guarding the gemstone. He crossed his arms on his chest making it difficult for Ji Yao to take it.

Ji Yao wasn't in the mood to deal with his childish tendencies so he issued a final warning but who was he kidding?

Rui Fei was never one to listen. It was hard to believe that he was the same person who was sweating bullets earlier on because his dage was upset with him. It seemed he forgot the pain after healing.
