Believe me, he was left with a few scratches on his face from that. With the noisy crowd gone Ji Yao turned his gaze to Huishe Yue who was standing behind him staring at him with a probing gaze.
Ji Yao disregarded this look and asked, "Are you sure you are not going to go all crazy on me after I activate my aether?" as he folded his arms across his chest with a nonchalant tone.
Huishe Yue found this amusing and suddenly had the urge to probe Ji Yao. "I swear I won't," he answered as he leaned against the wall watching him, "Do you have a girlfriend or someone you like?"
Ji Yao, "....."
He was taken by surprise because what did this have to do with getting this Nocru out of here? "That's such a random question and I don't think that's any of your business," replied Ji Yao with a stern look on his face. His entire body had tensed up like a porcupine that had its spikes standing up in defence.
Huishe Yue was well aware of the risks when he asked that question. Ji Yao's response was well warranted. He wanted to tell him that his dear nephew has the hots for him but when he remembered that this kid was the key for him to leave this place he decided not to push it.
"Fair point," he said before walking out of the room heading for the dark tunnels. Ji Yao brushed Huishe Yue's inappropriate question at the back of his mind as he took down one of the talismans. His sword that had been behaving very well ever since they got knocked out suddenly vibrated in its sheath.
"Now you decide to show up?" he said but in truth, his mind was stuck in time. He was thinking about Rui Fei's face when he was staring at him with that wronged expression like he was being abandoned.
A smile crept up his face irritating the heck out of his sword. It was as though it knew what he was thinking about and to prevent him from sinking deeper into this misdirected thought it removed itself from the sheath and pointed at the talisman right in front of them.
The smile on Ji Yao's face sank before saying, "Fine, just stop nagging me," before activating his aether. As expected he could transcribe what was written there. He also felt a great sense of familiarity with these strokes like he was meant to know the person who drew them.
Before he could even organize his thoughts the sword's hilt settled into his hand. The moment his seraphic energy connected with his sword it suddenly stirred up something within Ji Yao's body. A burst of energy overwhelmed his aether blasting through his aetherial veins before engulfing the sword in flames. The blade of his sword suddenly extended into a flaming whip surrounded by blue sparks fierce enough to bring down a skyscraper.
Though his main objective wasn't a skyscraper it was still enough to burn these talismans. The amount of power flowing through his veins was nothing like he had ever felt before.
It was as though he had pierced through a barrier breaking through to a new level. With one powerful swing, he struck the talisman burning them to ash. A beautiful yet deadly blaze swirled in the entire room creating a picturesque scene that could send chills down one's spine.
A handsome slim figure stood aloof at the centre of the flames with an intense fiery gaze. Coupled with the bloody wound on his forehead he looked like a ruthless cold beauty with zero sense of humour. If anyone were to cross his path right now they would most likely get caught in the crossfire.
Huishe Yue who had been agitatedly standing inside one of the tunnels suddenly felt this strong urge to engage his aether and fight. It was true that he had better self control than Rui Fei.
In fact, when they are fully awakened this was one of the stages they were compelled to go through as cubs. Even in the face of their enemy, there would be tension but not enough to attack without reason.
There had to be an ignition source for the Huishe to attack the Qilin however during the conflict war was the justification. The main reason he was at the brink of losing control was because when Ji Yao's seraphic energy amplified he felt a faint sense of familiarity.
Like the person who locked him up in this place was in some way related to Ji Yao. It might not necessarily be a parental relationship but even an uncle or an aunt.
Since his nephew had some kind of connection with this half Qilin he decided not to apply the Niuq rule about families paying for their family member's sin and chose to use Ji Yao to find that person.
This meant he had to hold back the aggressive beast threatening to burst out and tear that half Qilin apart which was incredibly difficult. Only the heavens know how pissed off his nephew would be if he hurts his favourite person.
Two minutes later that burst of energy suddenly vanished calming the seething beast within him. He suddenly felt lighter like a load had been lifted off his body. After fifty years of being locked up in this shitty place, he finally felt like himself. This half Qilin had actually freed him. For that, he was extremely grateful. He walked over to the room in slow strides intending to check on Ji Yao.
The boy hadn't come out despite having completed the task. Something must have happened to him otherwise he would have come out by now. As expected Ji Yao had passed out from the massive breakthrough. His body lay flat on the ground with his sword right beside him.
His face was extremely pale with blood coming out of the corner of his mouth and the gash on his forehead had grown a few inches bigger.
No matter how one looked at this it seemed like a bloody crime scene and he being the only witness he was probably going to be the suspect.
He couldn't let his aggressive cub nephew see this so he tiptoed over and used his index finger to poke Ji Yao's shoulder with the intent of waking him up.
But no matter how he tried that kid was passed out cold. If a finger won't do it then a stick would do a fine job, right? He picked up the nearest stick and just as he planned on gently poking this kid awake Rui Fei walked in with hurried footsteps. Now one can only imagine how this scene looked like.
Huishe Yue, "It wasn't me!"
Rui Fei, "...."
Someone is quick to jump on the defence.
