They were even discussing among themselves what to call Rui Fei. It was only Xiaoyu who was still blind to the pink bubbles around that pair. She was walking beside Rui Li who was discontented about not having gotten a bigger piece of the centipede and Rui Yewan who was messing around with his seraphic energy as though solving some sort of puzzle.
Xiaoyu was walking alongside them and happened to see that exchange between Ji Yao and Rui Fei. She couldn't shake the feeling that their closeness was rather unsettling.
Who would want their future sweetheart chatting it up with someone who has a crush on her? Who knows maybe a fight would break out between them. She wouldn't want anything to happen to Ji Yao.
Their exchange though didn't seem hostile. It was more like Rui Fei was taking care of Ji Yao. Thinking back to that comment about keeping Huishe Yue for Rui Fei, her suspicions were growing.
"How would you describe their relationship?" she asked as she watched Ji Yao open the waterskin and take a good sip..
He looked especially dazzling with a part of his veil swept by the wind. They say that beauty can bring down nations but what they fail to realise is that a handsome celestial can bring down the universe and that handsome celestial being Ji Yao.
That veil was an absolute necessity otherwise people who weren't used to him wouldn't be able to listen to him because they would just be mesmerized by his face. She was lost in her thoughts that she didn't realise Rui Li was watching her.
It took a while for her to realise it and when she did Rui Li's expression was meaningful. Rui Li stood with her hands behind her back like an elder as she asked, "What do you see? Brothers, friends or lo-."
Before she could finish Rui Yewan covered her mouth and showed a fake smile while scolding Rui Li through gritted teeth.
"Stay out of it," he said but because his voice was low Xiaoyu didn't hear anything. He then turned to Xiaoyu with that fake smile still plastered on his face and said, "Will you excuse us."
Rui Li was then dragged by the collar. She wasn't even struggling either. She simply folded her arms and wore an annoyed look on her face. She had agreed to help Xiaoyu in the past that is until she saw that Ji Yao and her brother were a perfect match.
From then on she hid her dating playbook and gave excuses so when Xiaoyu asked about it this time she was ready to spill the beans.
Who would have thought Rui Yewan would stop her. It's actually a bad thing that he dragged Rui Li away otherwise it wouldn't prompt Xiaoyu to disturb the pair of lovers..... *cough *cough sorry I meant brothers or maybe friends?
Xiaoyu stood by Ji Yao's side putting him between the two of them and waved at Rui Fei thanking him for earlier. Rui Fei who had been leering at Ji Yao drinking the sweet cherry frizz was suddenly interrupted making him very unhappy.
"En," he said looking so disinterested you did think Xiaoyu was a talkative waitress who wouldn't go away after talking so much while the customers were having a romantic dinner. He just wanted to pay her so she could leave but if he did that Ji Yao would think he was giving her money like they were in a relationship.
"What are you having Yao-ge? It smells like berries," she said tiptoeing to see the contents but the boys kept walking so she had no choice but to catch up.
Ji Yao couldn't be rude to her so he replied, "Ask Rui Fei he gave it to me."
Xiaoyu wanted to ask Rui Fei but she decided not to lest Ji Yao misunderstood. Okay, let's not blame her for being this dense. It's just that she grew up with little to no social interactions with others hence the castles in the air. "Can I try it," she said grabbing the waterskin from Ji Yao but Rui Fei was faster.
Again without thinking he drank it gaining an indirect kiss at a huge price. Even his uncle grimaced at the sight. He could feel his stomach churning just by watching Rui Fei drink it.
Sugar was like what lactose is for lactose-intolerant people. Things don't end well for any Huishe male who drinks, eats or tastes sweet things. They were born to repel sugar. The only reason he knew how to make it was because his wife in Niuq liked it.
It didn't take a long time for Rui Fei to pay the ultimate price. He might have suffered a major loss but at least he got Ji Yao's attention.
Ji Yao was affectionately rubbing his back while pulling up his hair as he threw up in the desert. It wasn't a pretty sight but Ji Yao seemed to be happy being here like it was his duty.
He even pulled up a wifey card scolding him for doing something stupid for him. Wives love that card despite feeling a little proud of their husbands standing up for them.
Ji Yao held the waterskin as well making his hands full so Xiaoyu decided to help him out but who would have thought he would refuse. She was trying to help but apparently, Ji Yao didn't need it.
She opted to hold Rui Fei's hair but even that too was refused by him. It was as though Rui Fei was his territory and she was stepping into it resulting in conflict. Thinking he was worried that she would be disgusted she took a step back but her gaze lingered on Ji Yao's nice average-sized hands rubbing against Rui Fei's back in a soothing motion.
She wanted to be touched like that by him as well but she didn't have a sugar allergy. By this time Rui Li and Rui Yewan had dashed over concerned for Rui Fei but as they approached closer Rui Fei gave them a side-eye glare that had them pause in their tracks.
Catching the hint one scratched his head pretending to admire the sun while the other whistled as though looking for birds which is ridiculous considering this place was the kind of place birds don't shit.
"He will be fine..... just um..... just give him this and he will be as good as new," said Rui Yewan passing Ji Yao a bottle of medicine before scurrying away with his dear sister. He was in such a hurry that he missed Rui Fei's deadly stare which translates to, "Damn it, I am in pain but I need to milk this for longer. This brat ruined it."
He didn't want to get better faster as he needed more of that TLC from Ji Yao. *Sigh.... I guess we can't all get what we want.
