Ji Yao called Big Hei to help him lift the skinny lad as the others heaved a sigh of relief. No one wanted to spend a night fighting these lousy creatures instead of a good night's sleep.
While Ji Yao held up Xunshi Zhe he had no idea he had stirred up a pot of vinegar. The pot was slowly boiling over acting like an icy glacier that hadn't melted for millions of years. Rui Fei didn't know why he felt this upset even towards a patient. He should be understanding of the situation and act rational but he couldn't help it. His jealousy was spilling over.
As soon as Big Hei showed up Rui Fei pulled Ji Yao's elbow bringing him closer with an 'I am unhappy' look on his face. Ji Yao was too worried to notice. The last time he expanded his vision into the distance the pack of half beasts were more than this. There had to be a larger pack coming for them.
Rui Fei on the other hand was seeking attention as though saying, 'Baby, look at me,' but who was he kidding?
He had hoped too soon. Ji Yao wasn't at the same emotional level as him who had invested two years plus thinking of one person so of course, the feelings weren't the same.
His mood dampened a little but when he saw the look of worry on Ji Yao's face he knew something was up. Thinking for him he ordered, "Everyone remain vigilant and stay in pairs."
Some of the hardcore members like Lan Wu were about to say, "You aren't the boss of me," but when he saw the hand on Ji Yao's elbow. His thought at that time was, 'Yep, he is totally the boss.' This entire time Rui Fei's hand didn't let go of Ji Yao like he was afraid he would vanish in the next second.
Ji Yao raised his head to look at him as soon as Rui Fei's words fell. He wanted to pat him on the head and say, 'good boy here is a treat,' but he restrained himself and instead said, "You can't partner with me neither can you be in my proximity. When shit goes down we will be fighting each other instead.".
Instead of the look of disappointment Ji Yao had expected, Rui Fei's face brightened up. Rui Fei had completely forgotten that he wanted to tell Ji Yao about him not going bonkers after he engaged his Qilin bloodline earlier. That's because of the tummy ache incident which ultimately led to some lovely benefits. It seemed things were working well for him lately.
"Actually.....," he said before leaning down to whisper into his ear. The two stood side by side looking especially intimate sharing little secrets that they don't want others to know about.
When Rui Fei was done sharing Ji Yao's face was beaming. This was truly good news. Rui Fei changed his hand placement and laid it on Ji Yao's back with a look of pride. This sight was too blinding to the eyes even for Xiaoyu, the clueless one. Especially when things were like this.
Thinking she could pull them apart and spend time with Ji Yao she strode over there and said, "Yao-ge, how about we pair up," hooking her arm around Ji Yao's.
Ji Yao didn't hesitate to pull her hand away. It was nothing personal but that he was still averse to anyone's touch apart from Rui Fei's.
She bit her lower lip seeming aggrieved but didn't make any more movements. She knew about Ji Yao's problem but when her gaze met the hand on Ji Yao's back she felt a little upset. Why could he and she couldn't? This wasn't how it was supposed to be.
She was about to act a little coy and get her way but that plan was foiled when Ji Yao said, "You should pair up with Lady Ching Sei. You should be able to coordinate with her well."
Rui Fei who had been eating lemons after seeing Xiaoyu touch his beloved cooled down a little when he saw Ji Yao reject her. He felt even better when Ji Yao shoved her off with his words pushing her towards someone else. This made him so happy that if he had a tail it would be wagging so fast.
Xiaoyu didn't argue turning on her heels to leave. It was because she saw Zhang Li sneakingly walk up to Lady Ching Sei. If that pair end up together then she would be stuck with one of these men. She didn't want Ji Yao to misunderstand her.
Just as she pulled the pretty lady into a partnership a breeze blew by carrying something sinister within. That pack Ji Yao was worried about showed up even larger in numbers. From afar they could see glowing eyes in the dark too many to count. A blue light shone on their foreheads with the Qilin symbol.
Growls and snarls were heard followed by a loud commanding howl from the alpha issuing orders. Fervent excited howls and growls were heard as they built up flames in their mouths. It was evident what they intended to do.
Lined up in an orderly fashion they blast flames towards the group ready to burn them into ash. "Scatter the pack!" yelled Ji Yao as he summoned his sword and picked the right flank. This marked the beginning of an epic battle that none of them would ever forget.
The puppet master of this show was sitting on his throne watching with great interest. He could see through any of the beasts he created if he wanted to and today he was watching through the half-beast.
His target was obvious. He wanted to ruin Qilin Hao and this little boy had given him the perfect opportunity. Just as he watched on he saw an unexpected figure flash by. Uncertain of what he saw he looked around for that figure and found it. His smile grew wider as he murmured, "Huishe. Yue... this is bound to be interesting." It is indeed true that enemies are bound to meet on a narrow road. He had met one of his after five decades and he wasn't afraid. He was going to finish the job this time.
