Chapter 272 - The Nearest One To The Goal

Li Ying had a big smile on her face as she started running towards the center of the maze.

Since there was no map given, it was quite confusing and none of the players were able to be a hundred percent sure that they were headed the right way.

All they could do was hope that they were not wrong.

Tian Xifeng knew the general layout of the maze, however, she had no idea where she was so she was basically directionless and as a result, she was unable to make sure that the way she had chosen was the correct one leading to the center of the maze.

Kaoru was, in fact, running the opposite way, going further away from the center as she did.

This was because, just like the other players, she was also following her instincts and guessing the way.

Out of all the players, Huang Zhen was the one who was the closest to the center of the maze.

Ever since Huang Zhen left Zhihao and Li Ling behind, he had been walking casually, heading towards the center of the maze.. If one were to look at him, they would think that the boy knew where he was going but he was in fact just winging it and he had no idea that he was the nearest player to the center.

If the maze had no more traps in store for the player, there was a high chance that the player who was most likely to win this small challenge would be Huang Zhen, but unfortunately this was not the case.

Zhihao was still the only person who was able to avoid the traps after recognizing all the triggers. Although the man was running, he was still keeping a lookout for any trap triggers.

He had forgotten to tell Li Ling about the triggers but at this moment, Zhihao felt that it was better this way since the two were competing against each other in this one.

Since Li Ling was the gamemaster, Zhihao was sure that the man would soon be able to notice the pattern and learn to identify the triggers.

The first one to fall into a trap was Huang Zhen and it was to be expected considering the fact that he was the nearest player to the center and didn't even look to be bothered by anything as he continued walking leisurely.

Huang Zhen sighed as he saw the walls closing up on him and didn't even bother taking his hands out of his pocket as he went over towards the side and stared at the wall.

He took out something from his pocket and it turned out to be a small knife.

Huang Zhen looked up and jumped before using all his strength to stab the wall with the knife.

With a strong jab, he was actually able to make a small hole into the wall but the knife wasn't deep enough to stay there and came down with him.

Huang Zhen took in a sharp breath as he prepared himself to jump again and this time, he used even more force and focused so that he once again stabbed at the same spot.

Suprisingly enough, the knife got stuck on the wall and Huang Zhen didn't let go of it as he dangled from the small knife.

In the very next moment, the system notification could be heard.

[No player detected]

[Scan beginning... If the player is not detected in the next ten seconds, the trap is going to be automatically closed.]

It seemed that Huang Zhen was just as smart as his brother and had managed to somehow learn this trick that was previously only known by his brother.

[Trap has now been closed.]

Huang Zhen pursed his lips as he wiggled around a bit and pulled the knife out of the wall before he jumped down.

The walls that had closed previously opened up soon enough and the boy was free to go.

The boy kept the knife back in his pocket and sighed as he casually continued on his way and started walking, however, after just a few steps, he was once again forced to stop as he triggered another trap.

"Are you kidding me...?!" The boy muttered in disbelief as he blinked, trying to understand if his luck was really this bad for him to fall into another trap as soon as he gets out of one.

He shook his head as he stopped himself from cursing the system and made his way to the wall as he once again tried to use the same method, however, it seemed that the heavens were not with him for the second time.

He jumped up but before he could stab the wall, he heard a really loud growl coming from right behind him and he was no longer able to do what he planned as he cautiously turned around to look at the metallic bull.

"Oh... Shit!" Huang Zhen cursed as he saw the bull marching towards him at a speed that was a bit hard to dodge.

Huang Zhen moved out of the way at the last possible second and the bull that had sprang forward with its horns first had managed to almost break the wall, creating two big holes on it.

Huang Zhen's eyes widened in shock as he stared at the bull with a horrified expression plastered on his face.

The moment he saw the bull, he already knew that this trap wasn't going to be easy to get out of and his trick that he had previously used could be of no further use to him inside this trap.

The bull let out a hot steamy breath and jumped around before pulling its horns out of the wall and shaking its head, as if the creature was regaining its balance.

Huang Zhen gulped as he scrambled up to his feet and got ready to run for his life.

The bull once again followed him and attacked him, but Huang Zhen would always step aside and somehow managed to avoid the bull's horns.

Dodging and running was the only thing he could do at this moment but Huang Zhen's brain was working and he was trying to figure out a way out of this situation.

To beat this bull was something that was almost impossible since he didn't really have any big weapons on him. The only things that could be considered as a weapon and were kept in his pocket were the pocket knife and the gun.

Huang Zhen jumped and ran, fell and scrambled to his feet, rolled and ducked, tried every way possible to avoid being hit by the bull.

Since the creature was a bit large, it was a bit clumsy as well and after every attack, it would need at least a few seconds to prepare for its next attack.

These few seconds were like a breath of relief for Huang Zhen who could calmly think about what to do next within those tiny gaps of peace.

A few minutes passed and since the bull was mechanical and artificially made, it was still just as lively as it was when it first came. The stamina of this thing was no joke, but at this moment, Huang Zhen, who was already a person who hated exercising, had now managed to run out of breath and energy, however, his body refused to give up and his sheer will to survive was the only thing that kept him going.

Who knew what genius had hit him but Huang Zhen suddenly had an idea. A plan that was certainly dangerous, but he was well aware of the risks.

He planned to use the bull to escape.

Huang Zhen stood in front of the wall with his hands wide open as if welcoming the bull to come and hit him, and the bull, that was now seemingly invited, didn't dare miss this chance as it plunged forward at Huang Zhen.

Huang Zhen took a deep breath as he closed his eyes and mentally calmed himself down before using all his energy to jump up at the last possible second.

The bull was once again unsuccessful, but Huang Zhen's plan turned out to be a success as he stepped on the bull's head and in the very next moment, he walked towards its back and took a seat.

The bull clearly knew about Huang Zhen's presence so when it pulled its horns out of the wall, the first thing the creature started to do was jump around, moving like crazy.

Huang Zhen gritted his teeth as he grabbed onto the horn and hugged the bull, in order to not be thrown off.

If he was thrown off then there would be no doubt that he would be stomped to death in the very next second so that was really the last thing that Huang Zhen would plan to do even by mistake.

The bull seemed to have suddenly gone crazy as it used every tactic it possibly could to get the boy off of its back but it was all a fail as Huang Zhen simply refused to let go of the bull.
