Just as Matthew Xi exited the private ward, his tracks halted upon glimpsing at the figure in the corner of his eyes. Slowly, he turned to meet the pair of eyes that was staring back at him.
"Mr. Xi," Zion Kwan slightly bowed his head as a greeting, perfectly concealing his surprise at the sight of Matthew Xi.
"Doctor Kwan," Arching his brows slightly, Matthew Xi with his ever inexpressive tone greeted back. "Are you doing your rounds?" Matthew Xi asked, shifting his gaze on Zion Kwan's back.
By the looks of it, Zion Kwan wasn't doing his rounds because he was alone. If he was, he should have a few assistants with him, right? So, Matthew Xi somehow guessed that Zion Kwan's intention, and Matthew Xi, didn't quite like the conclusion.
"No, I'm visiting someone — you..." Shaking his head, Zion Kwan answered but stopped midway. He saw Matthew Xi departed Zoey's private ward, didn't he?
Why? How did they know each other? Does that mean... Right... Zion Kwan recalled that Cora Ma said that Zoey's new lover was named Matthew Xi.
Since Cora Ma and Zoey assumed the Matthew Xi they knew was not the real Matthew Xi of the Xi Corporation, Zion Kwan didn't dwell on it for long. Having similar names wasn't that new in this world.
However, seeing the man that the two ladies mentioned, Zion Kwan's heart pounded. This discovery... Zion Kwan was utterly astounded.
In other words, the Matthew Xi that Zoey was pestering and seducing was none other than Matthew Xi — the legendary businessman that had the power to change the country's economy at his will.
"I'm her lover, if that's what you are asking." Without further ado, Matthew Xi bluntly said as he examined Zion Kwan's surprised front. "I assumed you are the person she talked about last night." Matthew Xi added, not showing a bit of excitement about meeting Zoey's "first love".
In Matthew Xi's perspective, Zion Kwan was his rival. He wasn't like this before Richard Sun. However, since Zoey admitted that she had feelings for Zion Kwan in the past, Matthew Xi wouldn't be as lenient towards him, unlike how he dealt with Richard Sun.
"Mr. Xi, I — how —" Baffled at the enormous aura, as if the gravity itself turned heavy, pressuring him down, Zion Kwan stuttered.
Zion Kwan wanted to ask tons of questions, but none of them escaped from his mouth — not even making it past his throat. He just stared at the towering figure of Matthew Xi, with those pair of russet eyes as if nothing could quench his thirst for destruction.
What a terrifying gaze! Even the ever composed and gentle Zion Kwan could not help but acknowledge the person's powerful presence. No one could ever ignore it. Matthew Xi's presence was created to be noticed.
"Doctor Kwan, I respected your family's merits and how the Kwan's conduct their medical practices. That is why..." Matthew Xi paused, examining Zion Kwan's surface. But, in Zion Kwan's perspective, Matthew Xi's gaze seemed to see through his soul.
"That is why, I genuinely hope we won't have any personal issues. Never touch what's mine and I'll do the same." Matthew Xi continued, saying his piece in the most blunt yet indirect way, as he often does.
Considering Matthew Xi was talking to Zion Kwan, Matthew Xi was certain the latter would understand what he was referring to. After all, since Matthew Xi knew that Zoey and Zion Kwan had some history together, he was confident his message wasn't as vague as it seemed: Stay away from Zoey.
Little did Matthew Xi know, Zion Kwan didn't understand what he was spouting about. Well, perhaps Zion Kwan did, but he was more puzzled that he was being targeted as a love rival!
If Zoey mentioned Zion Kwan to him, then Matthew Xi should have known that he didn't have that kind of intention. If only he had some romantic feelings towards Zoey, he would have pursued her from a long time ago!
Just then, the door of Zoey's private ward abruptly opened, catching Matthew Xi's attention. There stood Zoey, whose eyes widened upon laying her eyes on Matthew Xi, then to Zion Kwan.
"What is it?" Matthew Xi asked, raising his brows.
"Ah, I forgot to tell you that I settled the bill earlier. Big brother Ion, what are you doing here? I told one of your staff that I'd drop by later, eh?" Chuckling awkwardly, Zoey explained before turning to Zion Kwan. Her eyes blinked innocently, tilting her head to the side.
"Big brother?" Arching his brows, Matthew Xi was slightly displeased at how intimately Zoey addressed Zion Kwan. Well, they had history together so there's no need to be surprised. After all, Matthew Xi had already warned Zion Kwan and he should know what to do.
"Hehe, didn't I tell you my first love works here? That's him! My brother!" Clueless at what transpired moments ago, Zoey answered cheerfully.
"Your brother?"
"Hmm! They said that a girl's first love is their father but in my case, it was my brother! He's my only family, you know." Hopping a few steps, Zoey shamelessly linked her arms around Matthew Xi's arm as a sweet smile formed on the side of her lips.
"I'm still planning for a date to formally introduce you to him but since you've already met, let's enjoy some morning coffees! What do you say?" Zoey altered her gaze from Matthew Xi's unmoving front to Zion Kwan's mortified surface.
"Huh? What's wrong with you two?" Seeing the strange expression on both men's faces, Zoey tilted her head to the side.
Little did she know, Matthew Xi was utterly embarrassed at how he acted in front of Zion Kwan. Although the question of how they became family was still there, Matthew Xi got the grasp that he misunderstood the concept of her first love.
Meanwhile, Zion Kwan was mortified at how Zoey described him to Matthew Xi. No wonder the man was hostile towards him. Zoey purposely teased him by using him! Why must she put him through all that experience and have a glimpse of hell?
"Ehh? Why are you looking at me like that?" Seeing that the two set their eyes on her, containing each of their emotions beneath their pair of eyes, Zoey raised her brows innocently as she took a step back.
"Hehe, what did I do? You two love me, right? You won't kill me today, no?" Taking more steps back, Zoey awkwardly smiled as she somehow felt that she's in trouble.
