'Why does the air feels so awkward?' Zoey wondered, altering her gaze from Zion Kwan to Matthew Xi.
Earlier, just when she thought she was in trouble for something she was unaware about, Matthew Xi just dragged her back inside; Zion Kwan also followed.
Somehow, her suggestion about 'enjoying their morning drinks' pursued. However, this suggestion of hers was not even fun. They don't seem to enjoy their hot drinks.
It was just awkward, that's all. Neither of the men talked, as if they were preoccupied studying the atmosphere around which made things more awkward. Zoey had tried striking a conversation that the three of them could share, but to no avail.
Both Zion Kwan and Matthew Xi would only utter one sentence and kill the conversation right there and then. The reason Zoey gave up and kept silent as well.
Still, Zoey couldn't let this silence triumph, right? After all, she was clueless what Matthew Xi and Zion Kwan talked about outside this room.
They might have started on the wrong foot — that must be it. Hence, Zoey didn't want Zion Kwan to think that Matthew Xi was creepy or anything.
Little did she know, Zion Kwan's thoughts about Matthew Xi was far from what she imagined. Zion Kwan never thought that Matthew Xi was creepy. If anything, Matthew Xi's true identity worried him.
"Uhm... big bro, aren't you going somewhere?" Sounding awkward, Zoey asked. She raised her brows, casting Zion Kwan a knowing look.
However, Zion Kwan feigned innocent of what hidden message she was relaying. "No, I am not. I'm here because I thought of sending you off." Zion Kwan answered.
One could tell he was lying through his teeth. Zion Kwan's initial plan was not to send her off but to check on her. But after meeting Matthew Xi, he didn't want to let this mischievous Zoey to harass the man further.
"Hehe, what are you talking about? You never see me off..." Chuckling in a more awkward tone, Zoey widened her eyes as if warning Zion Kwan to behave. However, Zion Kwan only glanced at her before shifting his gaze to Matthew Xi's calm front.
"Did you stay here the entire night?" Zion Kwan asked, mustering his confidence to talk to Matthew Xi.
The fact that this man was the real deal worried Zion Kwan. What's more? Matthew Xi threatened him and called Zoey His. Therefore, Zion Kwan was more worried about Zoey's situation. Who knows what the future holds with Zoey being with Matthew Xi?
Matthew Xi was not the person Zoey could mess with. She wouldn't get away like she usually does. Even with the help of the Kwan's, Zion Kwan was afraid he couldn't help his sister out of this situation.
"I did." Short and precise, Matthew Xi replied. Raising his gaze to meet Zion Kwan's, none of the two knew that behind his sharp russet eyes, Matthew Xi wished to dig a hole and bury himself.
Matthew Xi knew that Zion Kwan was now hostile towards him. After all, he threatened Zion Kwan earlier. What if Zion Kwan mentioned what he said to him to Zoey? It mortified Matthew Xi to think what Zoey would think or do.
Unbeknownst to him, that would be the least of his concerns. Sure, Zion Kwan was vigilant around him now, but his reason was entirely different from what Matthew Xi thought.
"I see..." Nodding in understanding, Zion Kwan said nothing anymore. Again, silence engulfed the ward, which suffocated Zoey a little.
"That's it!" Sighing heavily, Zoey altered her gaze from her darling love to her big brother. "What's up with you two? I know you two are weirdos but please be normal around the normal one here, okay? Can we at least pretend that this is an exciting meeting?" She suggested, inciting disdainful glare from both men.
Shameless, indeed. If she considered both of them as weird while she was normal, then they could not help but question her view in life. After all, the weirdest person in this room was Zoey, herself.
Matthew Xi and Zion Kwan might not share the same perspective in life, but they have one thing they could agree about; that Zoey was special in her own way. After all, Zoey managed to lure Matthew Xi to her and has a brotherly relationship to one of the most remarkable doctor in his field.
"I'm leaving early." Instead of nitpicking at her last remarks, Matthew Xi announced as he placed down the empty mug.
"Ah? Ehh??" Baffled for a while, it was still early for him to go. Hence, Zoey blinked her eyes as many times as she watched Matthew Xi grabbed his keys.
"Good luck on your settlement meeting later." Glancing at Zoey, Matthew Xi remarked as he shoved his keys inside his pocket.
"Are you going to work? Let me — " Zoey frowned, not ready to part ways with Matthew Xi just yet. However, Zion Kwan held on to her arm and shook his head.
"It's fine." Matthew Xi saw Zion Kwan's action, but didn't take it to the heart. It was better for them to have their own personal space for a while.
Also, since Zion Kwan knew who he was, Matthew Xi needed to prepare himself. Zion Kwan might reveal his identity today, and he didn't want to see Zoey's reaction firsthand.
For some reason, Matthew Xi didn't want to see her expression upon knowing the truth. He didn't know why, but he had a feeling it wouldn't be anything near being pleasing to the eyes.
"No," Zoey gently pushed Zion Kwan's hands off her arm and smiled at him. "Big bro, I'll just send my darling off. I'll drop by in your office later, okay?" Zoey said, hopping to Matthew Xi and linked her arms around him.
"How can I let you leave alone?" Zoey said, offering him a sweet smile that sent butterflies in his stomach. "Let's go?" She asked, tilting her head to the side.
"You didn't have to," Matthew Xi cleared his throat, looking away from her as he took a stride. Zoey just chuckled as she followed his every step.
Meanwhile, Zion Kwan watched the two leave the ward.. As Zoey and Matthew Xi leave, Zion Kwan's brows knitted as his mind studied the two.
