MARCH 19, 2019. 16:45
The day has come. Finally, the most awaited first official date in their contract came. However, Zoey seemed quite normal as she still roast everyone who pulled an all-nighter to finish their ultimatum.
Glancing at Zoey, Cora Ma pursed her lips together as she sized her up. "Aren't you a bit nervous?" She asked, still watching Zoey, who was signing a document.
Cora Ma stayed for the night. Luckily, today was also her day off. Hence, she lazed around at Zoey's office like a cat.
The whole day she was there — doing random stuffs — Cora Ma noticed that Zoey seemed a bit nervous. It might not be obvious, but she knew her best friend.
Zoey was working incessantly. She didn't pause, barely having enough time to talk to irrelevant matters. Even when she was eating, Zoey didn't stop reading and replying to her emails.
"Nervous?" Arching her brows, Zoey slowly placed her pen down as she set her eyes on Cora Ma who was on the couch.
"Are you denying it?" Giving her a poker face, Cora Ma raised her brows. She was back to her usual self and deleted the memory of the indecent talk about last night forcefully.
"I do not deny it because I am not nervous." Shrugging her shoulders, Zoey leaned her back against the swivel chair languidly. "Well, maybe the right term is I am slightly concerned." She added, rolling her eyes as Cora Ma stared at her suspiciously.
"It's your first official date with Browny. What's there to be concerned about?" Cora Ma asked, knitting her brows as she patiently waited for Zoey to satiate her curiosity.
"That's why I am concerned. It's our first date and we're not wearing matching outfits!" Zoey frowned, disappointed that she didn't have the time to shop for their outfits tonight.
Zoey had always wished to wear the same outfit as her partner. Alas, it wasn't granted. Hence, she was trying to divert her attention to something more important.
"What are you? High school?" Cringing at the shallow concern, Cora Ma could not help but roll her eyes.
Just last night, Zoey was thinking of sending adult pictures to Matthew Xi. And now, she was ranting like a teenage girl who wanted to wear a matching outfit for their first date. How childish!
"For your information, Zeke ruined my teenage fantasies for a relationship. So, while I am still young and pretty, I wanted to make up for the lost years I am alone." In a matter-of-fact tone, Zoey stated as a heavy sigh slipped from her lips.
Yet Cora Ma's under eye twitched. Alone? Then what does she call her then? A ghost?
"Hello? You were never alone. I'm always with you, especially back then.... and your brother." Rolling her eyes once more, Cora Ma spat out of fake disappointment. "Also, what do you call the guys that you dated simultaneously? What are they? Zombies?"
"Cora Ma, don't insult the zombies like that." Humoring her back, Zoey shook her head as another sigh came out from her lips. "Anyway, instead of lazing around here, please fill my seat in the Kwan's dinner tonight."
"Ha?"
"You see, my brother wants me to attend to some dinner event tonight. Obviously, he's sabotaging my date and I can't let him take away my happiness. Hehe..." Giggling, Zoey fill her in about this dinner Zion Kwan mentioned from months back.
Obviously, Zoey forgot about it when she set their first date, and now exaggerating the story. They only reminded her earlier this morning when she checked her schedule. Hence, she was only telling Cora Ma now.
Also, it would be the perfect timing for her best friend and Zion Kwan to have some time together. After all, Zion Kwan saw the message Zoey left last night. At least, they have something to talk about.
"Z..."
"Please? Pretty please? Mommy Kwan and Daddy Kwan will be there too!" Pulling out her pitiful act, Zoey pouted as she fluttered her eyelids beautifully.
"More reasons for you to attend that dinner! Z, how can you forget such an important dinner? Can't you cancel your date some other time?" Exasperated at Zoey's carelessness, Cora Ma heaved a deep sigh.
Aside from knowing Zoey has a date today, Cora Ma only knew that extent. She didn't know where they were going and what were their plans. Cora Ma wasn't that creepy to pry for details.
In other words, Cora Ma didn't know that Zoey and Matthew Xi was attending Ezekiel Tang's engagement party! If she only knew, Cora Ma would drag her forcefully to the Kwan General Hospital and tie her in Zion Kwan's office.
"I can't." Frowning, Zoey shook her head. "Can't you see? My schedule for the rest of the month and the first half of April?" She then raised her small calendar and showed it to her dearest savior friend. "Also, I'm turning 30 in 11 months! That dinner will fill me with 'when are you getting married?' 'Zoey, you're getting older and it will be hard for you to conceive a child' and everything that's none of their business." Zoey sarcastically remarked, foretelling the words she was often told whenever there was a family get-together.
"So, please, my dearest best friend, save your future in-laws from the mighty Zoey?" Zoey added, placing both her palms together as if she was praying. The two ladies stared at one another for a good one minute before Cora Ma conceded with a sigh.
"Fine!" Rolling her eyes, Cora Ma got the gist of Zoey's reason. Since she was close to the Kwan's, so Cora Ma was well-aware of the Kwan's concern for Zoey.
After all, Zoey was getting older, and she has yet to settle. For a woman, the pressure of getting older without a partner to settle down with concerned the entire clan.
Still, it annoyed Zoey to some extent because not everyone was as gentle as Zion Kwan and his parents. Especially those relatives that often put pressure on Zoey.
"Sweet!" Pleased that Cora Ma saved the day, Zoey cheered as she hopped towards the couch. "Anyway, you can't wear your usual party clothes. I'll lend you some of mine and make sure to seduce my brother, okay?" Zoey suggested with a wink, causing Cora Ma to blush and stutter.
"N — no! I'm not se — seducing anyone!" Cora Ma rebutted, yet Zoey chuckled at how obvious and innocent Cora Ma could be.. "Stop teasing me, Z!" She added in protest.
