Chapter 98 - Double Meaning

As the host of the party accommodated their most important guests, the farthest part of the party was rather lively differently.

"Wait, isn't that Miss Zhou Zoey?"

"Hah, how did she gate crashed? Did she come here to cause trouble? I see someone haven't moved on."

"Shh, she's going this way."

"There's no need to tone it down. After all, she's a very proud person. She might even thank us for remembering how she almost ruined a relationship."

"How harsh! Hahaha!"

One after another, a group of beauties shared their comments as they watched the daring Zoey approach them.

"Can you tell that to her face, though?" However, one of them arched her brows as she stared at the woman snorting at their cruel words. "Admit it or not, we can't tell her that to her face because she already established her name in the business industry. She got the reputation." She added, smirking at the fact that the women shut their mouth for a second.

"Oh, my!" As soon as Zoey was close enough to hear her words, she lively gasped. "I can see how you girls missed the beautiful me! You can't even stop talking about my pure soul the moment you saw me~ how sweet of you!" Pleased to see them all well and lovely as usual, Zoey humored them as she flipped her hair.

"Haha. I see you haven't changed. You're still as narcistic as ever." One woman, the one who rendered the other women speechless, greeted back with a meek smile.

"Oh dear Isabelle, what are you saying? I changed, can't you see how I become the prettiest among you all?" Sounding offended, Zoey muttered in a matter-of-fact tone.

Isabelle Gu chuckled, shaking her head at the realization that this conversation was pointless. Hence, she decided not to respond anymore.

"Right, you look pretty. However, what's that got to do with your gate crashing? Trying to ruin the party because of you haven't moved on?" Snorting, another woman spat some unpleasant remarks.

If Isabelle Gu stopped talking sense with Zoey, she wasn't that lenient. After all, the soon-to-be bride put all her efforts in organizing this very day. Therefore, it would be impossible for Clara Wei to invite Zoey.

Knowing Zoey's personality and what happened years ago, even if it was already in the past, that incident was not something one could forget easily. Moreover, they were uncertain what Zoey would do that could ruin this party. She's crazy, after all.

"Gate crashing?" Tilting her head to the side, Zoey knitted her brows as if she was clueless to the woman's remark. "What made you think the pretty me would do that?" She asked, peering at the woman in a complete puzzlement.

"If you didn't, does that mean you got invited? I doubt Miss Wei and Mr. Tang would do that." Annoyed at the card Zoey was playing, the woman arched her brows as she perked her chin up.

"Huh, such a pretty shell with an empty head." Watching the woman slowly unravel her dislike towards her, Zoey shook her head sideways as she audibly whispered.

"What?"

"Pretend you didn't hear me. You'll get hurt." Casting the woman a sympathetic gaze, Zoey heaved a sigh.

"You!" Grinding her teeth, the woman glared at Zoey as her patience run thin. Not just that lone woman, but also her friends found Zoey extra annoying.

Not liking Zoey because of the past was one thing. But right now, her attitude intensified their terrible impression of her.

"Please, let's not act by our emotions. This day is a special day for Miss Wei and Mr. Tang." Sensing the growing tension, Isabelle Gu intervened. She altered her gaze from the woman to Zoey as she smiled.

"Miss Gu is right. You girls shouldn't act rashly because you're getting too emotional with our heartwarming reunion. You might have missed me, but calm down. I can always give you my time if you asked nicely." Nodding her head, Zoey magnanimously backed up Isabelle Gu's statement with a grin.

"Shameless b*tch." One woman scoffed. In disbelief that Zoey didn't just fatten her pockets, but also applied cement to her skin to make it hard and thick. Truly, she's the most shameless and tactless person she ever met. No wonder Zoey agreed to be a side chick in the past, the woman thought internally.

"Ouch!" Despite how inaudible the woman's last remarks, Zoey heard it loud and clear. Hence, she gasped, placing her palm on her chest as if she was utterly insulted. "Don't you have a more intense insult that can make my heart flutter?" She dramatically added. Her lashed fluttered innocently.

"Oh, Miss Zhou!" Suddenly, Professor Meng's voice assailed their ears from behind. The group of graceful ladies and Zoey turned to the direction of the voice. As soon as Zoey's attention diverted to the familiar voice, she smiled.

There, Professor Meng waved his hand as he approached her. With him, the host of the party, Clara Wei and Ezekiel Tang, froze. As Professor Meng happily approached a familiar person, Clara Wei slowly glanced at her lover.

Meanwhile, Ezekiel Tang stared at the mesmerizing Zoey for a moment. Although he already expected that she would attend, Zoey still struck his heart off-guard.

Clara Wei, who knew Ezekiel Tang, gritted her teeth as she forced to turn a blind eye on it. She needed to calm down. She shouldn't lose her cool, because at the end of the day, Ezekiel Tang would be marrying her, not Zoey.

"Professor Meng?!" As she watched the old man approached, Zoey genuinely grinned as she strode forward to meet him halfway. She disregarded the group of ladies that she found amusing to annoy. "I didn't know such a kind angel would be in here!" She added, making sure everyone around could hear her double meaning statement.

"Haha! Miss Zhou is as playful as ever! I didn't know you're acquainted with Mr. Tang and Miss Wei too!" Unlike his passive demeanor towards the hosts of the party, Professor Meng transformed into a more humorous and lively old man.

"Hehe," Chuckling at how clueless this old man was, Zoey glanced at the seemingly perfect couple behind him. "I know, right? As kind as Miss Wei, I can't believe that such an angel loves me! She even handed me the invitation personally!" She humored, causing Professor Meng to nod in understanding.

"I know. Miss Wei is truly a humble young lady." Professor Meng agreed, causing Zoey to cast a knowing look to the couple,.

"Anyway, congratulations Miss Wei on your engagement." Turning to the soon-to-be bride, Zoey smiled as she relayed her congratulatory remark.

It amused Zoey how Clara Wei changed and matured as she didn't go hysterical the moment she saw her. However, it only gave Zoey the urge to challenge how strong this facade of hers.

"Too bad we didn't have enough time to chat yesterday. But don't worry. I'll surely visit you more often." Zoey added, glancing at Clara Wei and to Ezekiel Tang, who finally snapped from his trance.

When Clara Wei absorbed her words, she clenched her teeth as hard as she could.. In her perspective, Zoey's words weren't meant for her but for Ezekiel Tang.
