Clara Wei felt her hand and shoulders slightly trembled. She didn't meet nor did she invited Zoey in this important day.
However, based from Zoey's insinuation, there was no doubt Ezekiel Tang was the one she was pertaining to. Does that mean Ezekiel Tang met her yesterday?
This discovery, Clara Wei unconsciously tightened her grip on Ezekiel Tang's sleeve. She repeated the words 'keep calm', as she forced a smile on her lips.
"I'm sure Clara is more than glad that you made it." Ezekiel Tang chimed in, smiling gently as he tapped on Clara's grip while staring at Zoey. "But, we didn't know that Professor Meng is also friends with Miss Zhou." He added, diverting the subject as he felt that his fiancee was losing control of her emotions.
"Hahaha! It's a long story, but Miss Zhou had helped me in the past." Unaware of the awkward atmosphere around, Professor Meng laughed heartily as he recalled some fun memories in the past.
"Professor Meng, how can you lie? You're the one who helped me and not the other way around." Going with the flow, Zoey chuckled as she teased the old man. Although Professor Meng wasn't lying, Zoey wasn't either.
Meaning, Zoey might have helped the old man in the past, but Professor Meng also helped Zoey. After all, Professor Meng was one of the people that opened doors of opportunity for the Z Image Group in their struggling days.
"This little girl," Pleased that no matter how high she reached, she remained humble and never boast in front of him. The more reason he was fond of her.
"Who would have thought that Professor Meng and Miss Zhou also knew each other? I'm glad that this event played as a bridge for your reunion." Finally, Clara Wei was able to join the conversation after the warning tap from her future husband. She finally got a hold of herself and didn't end up embarrassing herself in her own engagement party.
"Hehe," Both Zoey and Professor Tang chuckled, beaming Clara Wei a huge grin as if they thought the same.
"Anyway, please excuse us as we have to greet our other guests." Breaking the ice, Ezekiel Tang beamed them a smile as his gaze traveled from everyone around Professor Tang then stared at Zoey for a few second. He then bowed his head, showing respect for old man Meng — Clara Wei also did the same before they turned their backs against them.
"Sure, sure!" Professor Meng nodded, permitting them not to bother assisting him all night. Moreover, he finally had a good company whom he could have fun talking with.
"Anyway, Miss Zhou, where's your date?" As Ezekiel Tang and Clara Wei left, Professor Meng didn't beat around the bush and asked. He looked around but no one seemed they were with Zoey. Hence, he asked out of curiosity.
Despite the distance, Ezekiel Tang clearly heard that question. Indeed, Zoey said she would be bring her date, but no one was around her. Does that mean she has no escort to begin with? Did she just say those words because she's still mad at him?
Having these ideas floating in his mind, the corner of Ezekiel Tang's lips curled into an amused smile.
"Brother Zeke," Clara Wei, who constantly glanced at Ezekiel Tang's expression whispered. Her shoulders shuddered, so as her hands.
She didn't know what was on his mind, but Clara Wei was certain it was about Zoey. After all, it seemed Zoey was still trying to charm her future husband.
"Clara, don't overthink and calm down. Don't embarrass me if you really want this wedding." Still bearing a smile, Ezekiel Tang coldly muttered that was only audible for Clara Wei.
Meanwhile, as the perfect couple left and those group of vixens distanced themselves from her, Zoey frowned.
"Should I assumed you came alone then?" Arching his brows, Professor Meng scrutinized Zoey's gloomy expression.
It would be no surprise if Zoey came alone. After all, she often attend events alone. However, Professor Meng hoped he would have met Zoey with her date. That means Zoey was enjoying her prime years instead of slaving her youth with work.
"Well, it seems my date ditched me." Zoey puffed, thinking that Matthew Xi had a change of heart in the last minute. How cruel! Zoey would surely punish that naughty boy after this.
"Tsk tsk! How cruel!" Clicking his tongue, Professor Meng exclaimed in disappointment.
"Right? How can he ghost the pretty me?" Zoey added, nodding her head profusely as she agreed to Professor Meng's remarks.
"Little Zoey, maybe because you always praise yourself that he couldn't find an opening to compliment you!" Giving Zoey a playful answer to her narcissist remark, Professor Meng laughed gleefully.
"Professor Meng, I don't praise myself. I'm stating facts." Not a bit displeased at the mischievous teasing, Zoey gladly humored him back.
"Hahaha! Right." In between his waves of laughter, Professor Meng shook his head sideways.
"Miss Zoey Zhou," Just then, Richard Sun's familiar voice assailed their ears. As soon as Zoey heard her name being uttered by that freak, she cringed.
"Mr. Sun, I see you're also acquainted with Miss Zhou." Smiling from ear to ear, Professor Meng turned his gaze to Richard Sun and Director Long as they approached them.
"So, this is Miss Zhou." Director Long commented, bearing a smile as he scanned Zoey from head to toe.
Since this part of the hall was livelier than the rest, Richard Sun and Director Long happened to check what was the commotion. Who knew that the source of the bright aura was only Zoey and Old Man Meng?
"Acquaintance?" Richard Sun scoffed, glancing at Zoey who was bearing a bright smile. "You can say that, Professor Meng. After all, Miss Zhou and I had a fair share of memories together." He added, insinuating something misleading.
"Oh?" Slightly surprised by Richard Sun's statement, Professor Meng glanced at Zoey's side profile. Thinking of Richard Sun's current status and decent reputation, he wouldn't be bad as Zoey's match.
"Please, Mr. Sun. Professor Meng's imagination is rather wild. We don't want him having any wrong ideas.." Chuckling, Zoey humored back as she figured Old Man Meng might be planning something she would hate.
