"Hehe, why not? Professor Meng is the master of his own mind." Shrugging his shoulders, Richard Sun grinned as he cast the old man a knowing look.
If Professor Meng had any idea what's Zoey and Richard Sun's real score was, he wouldn't even think trying to matchmake the two. However, Zoey didn't want to worry this old lad.
Also, Richard Sun couldn't do anything to her now. He could boast and inflate his ego, but that's all about it. After all, he wouldn't want to lose face for boasting about this current project but ending messing up right off the bat.
"Little girl, it's not like you have a date tonight! He has thick thighs too." Insinuating the obvious, Professor Meng moved his brows in an up and down motion, grinning from ear to ear as he whispered.
"Professor Meng, didn't I say I have a date?" Surprisingly enough, Zoey's patience towards the man was longer than usual. She showed no sign of dissatisfaction nor was she pretending she was fine.
Perhaps, Zoey found it more touching. Even though Zoey would probably hear the same thing in the Kwan's dinner party, this was the first time Professor Meng nagged her about her love life. This to show that he was slightly concerned on Zoey's current status.
Zoey couldn't blame him too. It has been years since she met Professor Meng. And during those years, Zoey never introduced anyone to him despite having her name in articles and scandals for dating an A-list artists.
"So, where is he?" In a matter-of-fact tone, Professor Meng asked. He looked around, before returning his gaze to Zoey and shrugged his shoulders. "He what you call it? Right, ghost you!"
"He'll be here or I'll punish him..." Zoey whispered back, lying without batting an eye. However, upon realizing what she said, Zoey squinted her eyes. "Well, he might as well not come so I can punish him." She said, giggling at the idea that crossed her mind.
"Aya, this young lady." Shaking his head at how Zoey giggled for some random idea, Professor Meng didn't urge anymore as the event started.
"Everyone," Standing on the stage, the perfect couple Ezekiel Tang and Clara Wei sparkled elegantly as they scanned their guests faces from their position. The gentle smile on their lips were akin to those noble rulers.
The two appeared to be the embodiment of being the perfect couple. A matured and healthy relationship where they put their limitless understanding and a love that has no boundaries. Too good to be true.
Zoey would be one of those guests that would admire their relationship if she didn't know their true colors. It would be nice if she knew less. Hence, as she watched them from her standpoint, she could not help but scoff at this fakery.
'Just as I thought... those two didn't change. Did she think marriage will change him?' She thought internally. Zoey lightly shook her head sideways.
Not that she didn't expect a loveless relationship. It just a pain to watch seeing two people tying the knot despite their suffocating toxicity.
"Jealous?" Just as Zoey judged the couple speaking over the microphone, Richard Sun leaned a bit closer to her as he whispered.
Leaning back, Zoey arched her brows as she turned to face the audacious Richard Sun. She didn't know what he was thinking as it was clear they should have a distance to maintain.
"Come on. Didn't you say you want to start on a right foot?" Recalling Zoey's words from their last encounter, Richard Sun snorted as he smirked.
"You're so dumb to believe it." Chuckling, Zoey faintly rebutted as she returned her gaze to the couple from the distance.
"Huh, you and your smart mouth." Richard Sun scoffed. He clicked his tongue as he seemed helpless whenever he wanted to play words with her.
She often ends him, mercilessly. Fortunately, Richard Sun was in a good mood because everyone in there — except Zoey — considered him with the highest regards.
Looking around, Richard Sun smirked as he could notice the odd glances thrown at Zoey, obviously bearing malicious thoughts about her. Just standing next to Zoey and acting close to her, it would make her the target for the ladies that had their eyes on him. Thus, Richard Sun was purposely trying to act cool.
If Zoey could read his mind, she would probably do a fasting and pray for Richard Sun's corrupted soul. Thankfully, she couldn't.
Since Zoey was oddly focused on Ezekiel Tang that was standing on the stage, Richard Sun smirked. "So, you're into Mr. Tang?" Richard Sun made sure to tone down his voice so only Zoey could hear him. "Want me to help you get what you want?" He proposed, studying Zoey's side profile.
"Oh?" Arching her brows, Zoey cast him a side eye as the corner of her lips stretched upward. "Do you know what I want, though?" She asked, finding Richard Sun's silly idea more entertaining than pretending to listen to the long, boring speech from the couple.
"Try me." Satisfied by her reaction, Richard Sun grinned as he laid out his hand, "deal?" gesturing her to take it as a sign of a deal.
"Are you asking me to hold your hand? Seriously?" Chuckling at the chivalrous gesture, Zoey altered her amused gaze from his eyes to his hands.
"Being my date tonight is all I'm asking for. You see, I'm also alone and so are you. Moreover, didn't I say I'll help you get what you want?" Acting in his usual calm and cool self, Richard Sun reasoned out. "Even if it's Ezekiel Tang." He mouthed, enough for Zoey to understand his words.
"Hmmm." After observing his demeanor for a while, Zoey commended him as he didn't snap and lost his cool like the usual.
This was the Richard Sun she knew before Zoey's beauty and unpredictable personality charmed him.
Just as Zoey pondered on what funny response she should say, a large palm slided on Richard Sun's laid out hand. Slowly, Richard Sun and Zoey turned to the owner of the hand and both of them had their clock slowed down.
"Your hand... they were sweating and cold." Matthew Xi, with his ever cool and deep voice said, snapping Richard Sun's consciousness back to reality.
"And you look pale. Are you alright?" He added, setting his penetrating russet eyes on the terrified eyes that were staring back at him. His grip on his hand slightly tightened, making sure that Richard Sun know this was reality.
"Da — Darling?" Meanwhile, Zoey was too charmed at Matthew Xi's beauty that she ignored Richard Sun's strange reaction.. Yet, she felt guilty in some sort because he gave the vibe that he caught her red handed for the crime she was unaware about.
