"Is it really you?" As Zoey's eyes lit up, she pinched his lean cheek lightly to confirm if he was real. "Oh, so handsome!" She muttered, finding him adorable in his poker face that he maintained despite pinching his cheek.
Matthew Xi gave her a side eye, slowly withdrawing his hand from the sweaty hands of Richard Sun. Without a word, Matthew Xi fished out his handkerchief and wiped his hand modestly.
"Stop," He uttered, glancing at Zoey who was still pinching him with a bright grin.
"How can I stop? I just thought you left... taking my innocent heart with you." As usual, Zoey was unfazed by his domineering demeanor as she continued to hold on to his cheek and humor him with unrelated cheesy lines..
For a second, Matthew Xi stared down at her beaming smile before shifting it to the horrified Richard Sun. Just one glance from him and Richard Sun's trembling grew more uncontrollable.
Matthew Xi was never disgusted like he was right now for touching such sweaty, cold hands. For him, it was akin to touching manure. Disgusting.
Not to mention, it seemed like Richard Sun didn't heed to Matthew Xi's warning. Well, although it was understandable on Richard Sun's part because Matthew Xi didn't detail it, still, Matthew Xi perceived it as Richard Sun's lack of understanding and sensitivity.
It was Richard Sun's sin, not his.
"Anyway, where have you been? I mean, I really thought you won't come." Zoey asked after she was satisfied by touching him enough. She tilted her head to the side, waiting patiently for his explanation.
"I was contemplating my life decisions." Without batting an eye, Matthew Xi answered. It was the truth, though.
After seeing the teaser that Zoey sent last night, he had a hard time sleeping. Actually, he barely got any sleep. Hence, for the entire day, Matthew Xi couldn't focus on his work because he was thinking about Zoey's craziness level. The reason he was late.
Not to mention, Matthew Xi idled and booked a suite in this hotel so that he could calm his nerves. He had been there two hours before Zoey arrived.
He was just in the room, reflecting about his existence, thinking of clothes to wear, and why he was in such a situation. Sadly, Matthew Xi couldn't blame anyone but himself. Thus, he still attended this event.
"I guess you had thought of situations you could have dealt differently, eh?" Upon hearing his blunt response, Zoey chuckled. "Too bad you can't change history." She added, insinuating that no matter how much he regrets, Matthew Xi would have a hard time getting rid of her and her spells.
"It is very unfortunate." Nodding in agreement, Matthew Xi glanced at the confident Zoey. His eyes traveled from her pair of shimmering eyes down to her body.
Instantly his penetrating eyes constricted, seeing the amount of her unblemished skin that was on display. Although Zoey often wore something she was comfortable in, her outfit for tonight was something else.
She was like an antagonist in some cliche melodrama who would appear just to ruin the day. It was still a surprise that she hasn't caused too many problems yet.
Well, if Matthew Xi was a second late, he was certain Zoey would've cooked something up to amuse herself. After all, it seemed that Richard Sun had tempted the ferocious beast within her.
"Hehehe." Cool with his thoughts and usual attitude, Zoey giggled before a question floated in her mind. "Anyway, how did you find me?" Out of pure curiosity, Zoey asked.
The hall was huge and although it wasn't that packed, the number of guests wasn't any joke. Therefore, if he found her, does that mean he was looking for her for quite some time?
If that was the case, it touched Zoey. After all, there were celebrities and many gorgeous women present to tempt him. There was just too much competition that Zoey could not let her guard down.
Matthew Xi was so pretty that he attracted everyone... or that's what Zoey believed. She was right, though. Matthew Xi received awe, second glances, and intrigued a lot of ladies as he passed by them.
"You're loud." Glancing at her expectant visage, Matthew Xi lied. How could he admit that he immediately found Zoey because she stood out brightly? Also, that he only has eyes for her?
Well, the ladies all around might be beautiful in the eyes of the many. However, in his eyes, they appeared to be in a uniform of boring gray.
Hence, having a different and unique color in this black and white hall, Matthew Xi instantly found Zoey. Yet, admitting that to Zoey would make her assume ridiculous stuff once again.
So, the reasoning he concocted was something more understandable.
"Aww~ I purposely set my tone higher than usual for that reason." Although he didn't make any sense because Zoey knew she was mostly whispering with Richard Sun, she still went with the flow with a smile.
What ultimately matters was he was here now and they could be lovey-dovey. Moreover, she could not wait to show him off to Professor Meng and everyone.
"You — No, Miste —" Just as Zoey was beaming hearts at Matthew Xi, Richard Sun stuttered as he locked his gaze onto Matthew Xi's side profile.
When Zoey heard Richard Sun's stuttering voice, she was reminded of his existence. "Ha? You know him?" Turning to face him, Zoey knitted her brows as she tilted her head to the side.
Richard Sun saw Matthew Xi glance at him coldly. Those pair of sharp russet eyes seemed to penetrate his soul, causing him to choke on his own words.
In Richard Sun's perspective, Matthew Xi's gaze seemed to speak. 'Don't speak a word!' Those were the silent threats Richard Sun felt.
"Hey, are you seeing a ghost or you just completely lost it?" Seeing him drenched in his own cold sweats, Zoey arched her brows as she clicked her fingers in front of him. "Hey, stupid mama's boy!" She added, checking if he's really fine.
"Right, I forgot I have forgotten something." Snapping out of it, Richard Sun awkwardly chuckled before he scurried away with his tail in between his legs.
"Eh? Is he stupid? Forgot what he had forgotten?" Watching the egotistic Richard Sun flee, Zoey tilted her head to the side as she murmured curiously.
"Don't dwell on it.." Matthew Xi feigned ignorance, appearing clueless when, in fact, he was the cause of it.
