Chapter 129 - I Promised

"Alright. That's good. Keep it up." Zoey spoke to the other person on the phone before she hung up.

After her dramatic breakdown earlier, Zoey still showered and headed back to the living area of the hotel room with only her robe on. She then made a few calls to her employees and checked through her emails via her phone.

Fortunately, the people in Z Image Group were keeping their crap together. After all, most problems occurred whenever she wasn't around. Perhaps they still feel guilty for the thousand failed copies that they were diligently working day and night.

"*sigh* My charms don't even't affect him. Now that he has seen the hideous me, can I even seduce him?" She murmured, recalling how horrible she looked earlier.

Zoey had the urge to pull her hair apart in distress. But thinking of his reaction, Matthew Xi didn't seem to mind.

"Ay... whatever." Clicking her tongue in annoyance, Zoey decided to toss the problem towards the back of her head.

She'll just pretend as shameless Sheila like she often does. She was certain she'll forget about this incident in the future. For now, she really felt awful and wanted to rest.

Just as Zoey laid down, a certain someone flashed across her mind: Cora Ma and Zion Kwan! "Right, I wonder what happened to the two of them last night..." with that in mind, Zoey reached for her phone and dialed her brother's phone.

It rang several times, which made Zoey knit her brows. Zion Kwan usually answers her calls after three rings.

Checking the time, Zoey arched her brows. It's already noon. Therefore, it was impossible that Zion Kwan was still asleep. So Zoey tried to reach his phone once again, but to no avail.

"What's up with him...?" Zoey whispered before dialing Cora Ma's contact number. However, she didn't pick up her phone too, which was quite normal.

After all, Cora Ma usually shunned the world when she was in her zone in writing. Still, she wouldn't be writing after last night's event, right?

"This is suspish... did they take my advice yesterday?" Zoey narrowed her eyes as she stared at her phone. After a second, Zoey dialed Cora Ma's number again, hoping she'd receive juicy gossip.

Meanwhile, in a certain luxury hotel room. Only the loud ringing resonated across the room, giving a little life to the awkward silence between the two figures.

"Zoey... she's calling again." Glancing at her phone, Cora Ma bit her bottom lip as her fist on her lap trembled.

Sitting opposite her, Zion Kwan let out a deep exhale. "Last night... I —" he stopped, closing his eyes in distress.

"It's not your fault. We had a few drinks and I know we didn't mean what happened. It's alright — we live in the twenty-first century, so I think it's normal." Forcing a smile on her lips, Cora Ma reassured him that he shouldn't feel guilty.

Well, she gave her consent. Actually, Cora Ma felt like she was in a cloud nine feeling that he needed her. However, as soon as they woke up, Zion Kwan's reaction was not something she shouldn't be surprised about.

He had a lot of drinks last night as he had to mingle with their business partners. Also, with Zoey's absence, Zion Kwan had to appease their relatives and his family by entertaining their guests and not cause any displeasure.

Which led to their current dilemma. Last night, Zion Kwan insisted on walking her to the hotel room that was supposed to be Zoey's. However, just when they were right outside the door, something between them sparked.

The next thing Cora Ma knew, they were kissing their way inside as they stripped each other's clothes and tossed it onto the floor. She was aware that he was acting on impulse, but she had already liked him for a long time.

Hence, even with just a brief moment, Cora Ma wanted to embrace the feelings she held inside. Although knowing that Zion Kwan would never like her back, Cora Ma ignored all facts and succumbed to pleasure, even just for a night.

Zion Kwan raised his gaze and studied Cora Ma's understanding front. The second he processed her apathetic words, his jaw tightened.

"I see..." Nodding his head, a faint scoff escaped his mouth. "So, what happened last night... it's okay to let it go?" He asked, his fist tightened.

"Yes." Smiling as if everything was fine, Cora Ma shrugged her shoulders. "It's not like we have to bear feelings in a one night stand." Cora Ma mustered all courage that was left in her to sound natural.

"One-night stand..." he whispered along with another short scoff. 'So it's just a one-night stand, huh?' He thought internally, feeling a bit dumb for whatever plans he had in mind earlier.

"You're right. Thank you for understanding." Sounding like a real jerk, Zion Kwan stretched his lips from ear to ear as he nodded his head.

Little did he know, those words were akin to a sharp dagger piercing her heart. No, actually, little did the two know, their words for each other were just as sharp as any weapon that left a scar in her heart.

"Hehe. Also, I know you like someone. So, you don't have to worry that I'll tell her. You have my word." Steeling her heart for a moment, Cora Ma smiled as she reassured him of the things he was 'concerned' about.

As soon as he heard her last remarks, Zion Kwan knitted his brows in confusion. However, due to the upsetting atmosphere between them, he didn't have the energy to clarify.

After all, Cora Ma didn't like him and after what happened last night it seemed she didn't care about it. Therefore, Zion Kwan didn't need to clear the misunderstanding to make a fool out of himself.

"Zoey... I won't tell her, I promised." Seeing the slight surprise that flickered across his eyes, Cora Ma perceived it as the confirmation of this long suspicion she had held in.

In her eyes, Zion Kwan liked Zoey. Although he seemed to be a perfect brother figure, there was something in Zion Kwan's eyes whenever he looked at Zoey. Also, there were many instances that proved her suspicions.

Therefore, with a wild imagination of hers, she concluded that Zion Kwan bore romantic feelings for Zoey.
