Standing on the little stage of the private KTV room, Zoey sang, "Put your hand in mine, you know that I want to be with you all the time~
You know that I won't stop until I make you mine, until I make you mine..." With her oozing confidence, Zoey gestured as she sang a trending song she kept on hearing.
Obviously, with her lack of talent in singing, no matter how sincere and good the lyrics were, Matthew Xi wasn't moved — not at all. He let out a deep sigh, as he suffered watching and hearing Zoey do her solo concert.
God... Matthew Xi was worried his ears would bleed if this kept on. However, no one could stop her — not even his poker face. He would just be wasting his energy if he tried to stop her.
"Darling!" In the middle of the song, Zoey grinned as she skipped her steps and plopped down beside him. "What can you say about my angelic voice?" Seeking for compliments, Zoey raised her expectant eyes at him.
"Treasure it." Giving her a side eye, Matthew Xi felt a sense of relief as she finally stopped. Seeing her grab a bottle of water, he added. "Your voice is like a precious, rare gem. Keep it hidden where no one will find it."
"What a creative insult." Giving him an eye full of disdain, Zoey clicked her tongue as she shook her head while opening the bottle.
"Say, why don't we have a duet?" Zoey proposed, her eyes gleaming with expectations which he ruined with his cold gaze.
"Jeez, the nerve to insult my voice — I bet you can't even sing. Anyway, since you're my hostage — Browny, you shall answer my question!" In a matter-of-fact tone, Zoey raised her brows.
"I notice you always contradict me, but why do you look like you bear deep grudges towards that club? I mean, it's a place to make one forget the reality for a while." Zoey shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly, slowly drinking the water to hydrate her parched throat.
Glancing at her briefly, Matthew Xi gulped down as his lips slowly opened. "I f*cked someone." Blunt, direct, and unhesitant, Matthew Xi decided to inform her of the real reason.
He could have used a different term. Alas, that wouldn't change facts, right? Also, after his long contemplation, Matthew Xi decided to come clean so she would understand.
Meanwhile, upon hearing his answer, Zoey almost choked on the water as she let out a series of coughs. A small amount of water went into her nose, causing her to wince at the same time.
"It was my acquaintance's party. I didn't know they drugged my drinks as per a certain someone's request." Matthew Xi's monotone voice continued as he sprawled his arm and reached for the sealed bottle of water.
"Woah!" As Zoey recovered, she turned her widened eyes towards him and blinked them many times. "So, does that mean you don't remember what happened that night? No, I mean..."
"I do... albeit vaguely." Staring at the lyrics on the screen hanging on the wall, Matthew Xi glanced at her, eyes full of disbelief. "You won't like the details of what I can recall about that night." He added, warning her that his recollections of that night were all rated eighteen plus.
No one would like it when telling the person they're romantically involved with about such details of the past. After all, Matthew Xi could remember the woman's moans, the sound of her lips touching his skin, that raw yet undeniable pleasure.
Matthew Xi wouldn't welcome such information about Zoey's previous affairs. Although he was uncertain if anyone had touched her — he couldn't even think about it.
Why would he? It would only lead to unnecessary troubles for a certain someone belonging to the past. He didn't want to be that unreasonable... rather, he was avoiding being unreasonable.
"Wow, Browny, just wow!" Peering at him from head to toe, Zoey scoffed which caused his eyebrows to furrow. "How dare you forget the woman who helped you release?" Her eyes screamed insults at him, as if she was utterly offended.
Obviously, Matthew Xi couldn't understand her reaction. She wasn't being serious, right? Matthew Xi wanted to think she was kidding, but alas, by the looks of it, she wasn't!
"Why would I remember a woman who didn't just earn money, but also took advantage of me?"
"Earned what?! You think she's a prostitute?! Browny, didn't you consider that she might got lost and the thing between you two just escalated quickly?'" Zoey gasped, sensing her heart tighten at the insult she had been carrying all these years in his eyes.
"Why are you reacting like that? Are you that inclined to know my sex life?" Not a bit pleased at her over the top reaction, Matthew Xi slowly turned his full, undivided attention to her.
"Of course not! However, I'm a very open-minded person! That's why, I can't grasp the fact that you forgot the woman you bedded just like that!" Laying low a little, Zoey shook her head and placed her hand on her chest as she explained. "What will happen to this relationship if you can easily forget a woman?" Spouting all reasonable logic she could, Zoey heedlessly affirmed.
For a second, Matthew Xi said nothing as he studied her expressions as if she had received an injustice. "We are bound by a contract." His tone didn't change, still that emotionless.
However, it made Zoey pause and bite her lower lip to stop herself for a second. Staring back at those unhesitant russet eyes, a scoff escaped her lips.
"What's in the past, must stay where it belongs. My apologies if I don't understand your frustration about it; be it because you are a woman or something else. However, I don't and will never want to recall that occurrence of the past." Matthew Xi lectured, his words didn't falter as he spoke while staring at her in the eye.
"What if I'm that woman?" Not breaking their eye contact, Zoey arched her brow as she inquired.
Meanwhile, Matthew Xi briefly creased his brows as he didn't expect her response. "Are you?"
