Chapter 162 - Last Date Is Set!

Zoey pursed her lips, averting her gaze from him whose eyes incited something irresistible inside her. "I was kidding," She murmured, reflecting on every shameless suggestion of hers in order to tease him.

Well, she didn't expect him to be so bold and intense after uncovering the first layer of his guise. She expected a different Matthew Xi — not this Matthew Xi whose thirst overwhelmed the air.

"Don't kid me anymore, Zhou Zoey. I take everything seriously... I might say 'yes' to your frequently asked question." Smirking, Matthew Xi nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders as he mentioned about her most frequently asked question — will you marry me?

They might have their papers ready even before she knew it. Hence, Matthew Xi warned. If she mentioned it again, she'd be his wife in the next second. Not a bad idea, though.

"Jeez... bring me back my Browny." Grinding her teeth, Zoey frowned as she glanced at his laid back front. "You, Xi Matthew's second personality, there will be a day I will bring back my darling! Just you wait and watch!" She scoffed, as if she was talking to a different person that resided inside Matthew Xi's body.

"Good luck with that." Raising both his brows, Matthew Xi nodded his head slightly as he wished her luck. "Anyway, I am being called to my work. I phoned your friend and brother. They will be here."

"You're leaving?"

"Mhmm... If I don't, who knows what I'll do to you in my free time." Humming a tune, Matthew Xi slowly lifted his head away from her lap as he sat up straight. "But I guess, you'll also like it. Alas, not until you get discharged. You can't stay in the hospital for long, can you?" Turning his gaze to her, Matthew Xi unhurriedly fluttered his lashes as his blunt and honest words appeared differently to her.

"Just go," Peering at him with eyes full of conflict, Zoey waved her hand as she shooed him away. For Pete's sake! She just woke up and she hadn't had her cup of coffee to calmly process everything in one go.

"I'll be back, don't run away till then."

"Darling, stop acting sexy! I can't play hard to get but you can!" Peering at him in disdain, Zoey argued as her face slowly distorted at this Matthew Xi version 2.0.

"I like the current Zoey, but I prefer the feisty one. Bring her back too." Examining Zoey from her eyes down to her body, an unnoticeable sigh escaped his lips as he slowly stood on the side of the bed.

"She'll only come back if my shy browny came back — jeez..." Zoey murmured, arguing with him yet only she could hear herself.

Just then, Zoey felt his hand over her head, petting her which made her raise her gaze to him. Blinking her eyes, Zoey was certain she wasn't seeing things as the corner of his lips hooked up into a relieved smile.

"On our third date... 20th of April, almost one month from now. Let me choose our last date together." After a minute, Matthew Xi spoke as he retrieved his hand from her head.

"Last...?" Zoey knitted her brows, taking the keyword of his statement.

"Yes, last." Nodding his head, his answer made Zoey frown. Obviously, he saw the disappointment in her eyes.

However, Matthew Xi was sincere when he said he wanted this deal to end. He had been thinking about it all night while she was past asleep.

Just then, a knock from outside the ward assailed their ears. As the two turned their heads towards the door, Cora Ma peeked inside. "Z..." She smiled, opening the door as she headed inside.

Behind Cora Ma was Zion Kwan, with his hand shoved inside his pockets. Disappointment was plastered across his face, yet he kept his lips shut for now.

"They're here, you'll be alright?" Pleased that the two arrived just in time, Matthew Xi turned to Zoey who was staring at Zion Kwan.

"Mhmm," She hummed a tune as an answer, pursing her lips and smiled as she looked up at Matthew Xi.

For some reason, she didn't like Zion Kwan's vibe and Matthew Xi's chosen date and words. Well, maybe before their third date, her interest would be gone too... maybe.

Nodding his head, Matthew Xi's gaze travelled down to her lips. Just that second gaze, he had the urge to have a taste once again. However, he wouldn't be able to go if he did.

He wasn't ashamed of showing affection in front of anyone — like hell he would care. Still, he might send her friend and brother off to hog her for himself.

"I'll see you later." Said Matthew Xi, patting her head before he left the room. As he trudged away, Zion Kwan and Matthew Xi had a brief eye contact that relayed their inner thoughts.

When Matthew Xi closed the door, Zoey sighed as she turned to Zion Kwan and Cora Ma who was now sitting on the edge of the bed. "Sis, just how many drinks did you have that you passed out?" She asked, worried that Zoey overdid it.

In retrospect, Zoey might drink a lot. However, she never consumed too much alcohol. She would still manage to drive — a terrible habit of Zoey — but arrive home safely.

Hence, this news was rather new to Cora Ma — Zoey passing out inside the bar. Fortunately, she wasn't alone.

Zoey forced a meek smile on her lips as she peered at Cora Ma's sincere concerns. Suddenly, Zion Kwan's unwavering voice assailed her ears.

"Z, let's talk. I have seen your records..." without breaking his gaze from Zoey, Zion Kwan perched on the nearby chair.

"I am not doing drugs, alright? I was drugged." Widening her eyes, Zoey cleared her name as she argued.

"And you think he has nothing to do with it?" Insinuating that Matthew Xi might have anything to do with it, Zion Kwan's eyes darkened.

"Brother Ion, why would Mr. Browny drug our Zoey and rush her to the hospital? That doesn't make sense." Chiming in, Cora Ma frowned as she spouted a rational point.

"Sis, can I have a minute with my brother?" Pursing her lips, Zoey turned to Cora Ma who always stood beside her and defended her even if Zoey didn't need it.

"Z,"

"Please," Staring straight at her, Zoey smiled as she placed her hand over Cora's. Cora Ma sighed as she nodded before she glared at Zion Kwan as if warning him.

With that being said, Cora Ma headed outside and left the two. Whatever they have to talk about, Cora Ma knew Zoey could calm her over-protective and paranoid brother.

Upon Cora Ma's exit, Zoey turned to Zion Kwan. "Big brother,"

"Even if he didn't do it himself, you'll never know whether he wasn't truly involved — even if it's against his will." Zion Kwan exhaled sharply, giving her a hint that Zoey might have dragged herself into Matthew Xi's affairs and now they found her as Matthew Xi's weakness.

"Big brother Ion, trust me, he has nothing to do with it." Shaking her head, Zoey locked her gaze with him. "I'm not sure that's why I want to find out.." She added, didn't want to conclude further things for now as she didn't want to scratch the idea that the bartender just mixed things up and served her the wrong drink.
