Chapter 267 - Regal Party X

"Brother Matt..." Shortly after the whole ordeal, Ruby Xi mustered her courage as she approached Zoey and Matthew Xi who took up the corner table while the event resumed.

"Ruru," Ruby Xi hadn't even begun with her speech before Matthew Xi's cold gaze stopped her in her tracks. "Next time." His words sounded more as a warning that he was in a foul mood and she shouldn't approach her.

"Love," Sensing the sudden tension, Zoey frowned as she pinched his arm. Matthew Xi just glanced at Zoey before he sighed.

"I am not in the mood to talk, Ruru. You should understand what you've done to my wife..."

"Love?" Widening her eyes, Zoey stretched her lips into a forced smile. She had thrown her realization earlier at the back of her mind.

After all, it didn't matter how dark the other side of the Xi's were because she's married to Matthew Xi now. Moreover, she had a much darker past that she wasn't ready to tell him just yet.

It would worry him, and that was the last thing she wanted. Moreover, the past should remain in the past. Everyone needed to move on with their lives... just like how the world continued despite the impending doom the Tang's had faced.

"We'll talk once I've calmed down." Sighing once again at how much of a tyrant his wife was, Matthew Xi glanced at Ruby Xi.

Ruby Xi, who was supposedly happy about Zoey's help, didn't show a bit of appreciation. For some reason, her eyes revealed she was more insulted despite Zoey's good will.

Obviously, Ruby Xi's expression wasn't overlooked by Zoey. Hence, it made Zoey rethink if helping her talk to Matthew Xi was wrong.

'What a prideful person.' Zoey sighed internally, thinking that she failed to recall what kind of personality Ruby Xi had. It was not like Zoey admired this kind of behavior, but well, she's married to Matthew Xi and not to Ruby Xi.

"Alright. I'll leave early tonight. Enjoy your time with your wife." Although Ruby Xi had more things to say regarding Zoey, she held back and nodded in understanding.

After bidding her farewell, Ruby Xi didn't waste a second and left Matthew Xi and Zoey alone. No one even dared to approach the couple as they could feel Matthew Xi's strong repelling aura from across the whole room.

"Are you alright?" Glancing at Zoey, Matthew Xi's brows slightly creased while Zoey snapped back from her thoughts.

"Yes," Nodding her head profusely, Zoey didn't want to worry him and smiled.

However, Matthew Xi had seen through her which made him sigh for the nth time. He didn't expect the Tangs to be present that night and how they stirred trouble.

If only he knew, Matthew Xi would have stopped Vivian Xi and just paid a visit to the Tang Holdings himself. If he did, they would probably be having a good time now.

Regrets only happened when the damage had been done. Thus, there's no time for them to regret. Still, Matthew Xi could only not erase the fact that Zoey had witnessed the ruthlessness of their family.

Of course, Matthew Xi was aware of that. Even before when Vivian Xi tried to sell Paul Qian to Zoey saying 'he's not a Xi', this was what she was talking about. Yet, he was selfish to ask her for marriage and even wanted a child with her as soon as possible.

Crazy, indeed. But, they were not young anymore.

"Do you..." His words trailed off, pondering which words to use as Matthew Xi looked down. "Are you bothered about earlier?" He continued, asking the realization when things slowly unfolded before her eyes.

"No, that pair doesn't even worry me or..."

"Not that." Shaking his head, Matthew Xi slowly raised his gaze and faced Zoey. "Aren't you bothered about how we handled it?" When his russet eyes met hers, Matthew Xi clarified.

"Well..." Raising her brows briefly, Zoey bit her lower lip as she contemplated. "Bothered is not the correct term, just concerned." After a sigh, Zoey spoke her thoughts aloud as she didn't want to lie and say she's not.

After all, Zoey wanted a peaceful life after her chaotic past. Still, marrying him wouldn't guarantee peace and Zoey was well-aware of that.

"Will you still love me despite that?" He swallowed silently, staring at Zoey's side profile with eyes full of hope. "If you find out that I am not kind, or realize how selfish I can be, will you still stay by my side?" He added, speaking more sincere words than usual from the bottom of his heart.

He was worried more than her concerns; afraid that once Zoey had seen all sorts of side of him, she would divorce him. But, above all, he was more afraid that she would hate him for not letting him divorce her. She would hate him because he was willing to lock her up if she didn't want him anymore.

Surely, the two months of togetherness was not enough to take away these insecurities. It was too short, and he was finding himself getting more selfish towards her each passing day.

"Silly." Zoey let out a soft chuckle, slowly reached for his cold hand. "Why do you sound so depressed? Don't you trust that I love you? Xi Matthew, let me tell you this," Zoey paused, clearing her throat as she faced him.

"Xi Matthew, whether it's seven years ago or two months ago, me, Zhou Zoey will still chase you till the end of the world. I will only love you, and only you in this lifetime and the next, okay?" Staring at him straight in the eye, Zoey expressed her heart with a reassuring smile.

She might feel a bit embarrassed saying such sweet words sincerely, but she would say them over and over again until he told her to stop. "Whatever sides you show, I'll love them all. Even if the great Xi Family isn't great anymore, I'll stay by your side. Remember that." Taking advantage of this situation, Zoey added as she squeezed his hand gently.

"Let's stop worrying about mundane things, okay?" Sensing that his mood lightened up, Zoey grinned.

"Mhmm, you promised." Offering her a gentle smile, Matthew Xi hummed a tune as he held his hand out. "Shall we dance, Mrs. Xi?" He asked which made Zoey smile with a content heart.

"How can I refuse, My Mister?" Shaking her head, Zoey accepted his offer and slow-danced with him.

That night, it wasn't just Alice's birthday that was celebrated but also Zoey and Matthew Xi's belated wedding celebration.. That night, everyone came to know Z Image Group, and its admirable founder Zoey Zhou was now the wife of the CEO of the giant XI Corporation.
