Chapter 277 - Symptoms

MAY 18, 2019. SATURDAY, 6:45 AM.

Two weeks later, Zoey was woken up by the churning of her stomach, causing her to rush immediately to the bathroom. Matthew Xi who suddenly sat straight upon the fast movements earlier knitted his brows as he glanced at the open bath.

He could hear her puking, as if she was vomiting her internal organs. Hence, Matthew Xi dragged his feet towards the bathroom and saw her almost burying her face into the sink.

"Are you alright?" With his creased brows together, his voice a little hoarse, Matthew Xi rubbed her back gently with eyes full of worry.

"Ah gosh... I feel sick." After a minute, Zoey gargled with water and then wiped her mouth while muttering. Although she felt like she released everything, there was still this uncomfortable feeling that she was not yet done.

It was way worse than a hangover after partying the night. Her head felt heavy, and her vision seemed to shake. Zoey wanted to sleep more as her body felt too heavy for her at the moment.

For twenty-nine years of her existence, this was the first time Zoey felt this kind of inexplicable sickness early in the morning. It was just the worst feeling ever as if it was going to kill her!

"Let's go to the hospital." Worried, Matthew Xi studied his wife's pale face before he carried her back to the bed.

They were fine last night. As usual for the past several days, Zoey had slept earlier like a log. He couldn't even wake her up even if he would caress her entire body.

However, why was she suddenly sick? By the looks of it, Zoey was in a horrible state. Hence, his worry heightened with every second that passed.

After settling her down back to bed, Matthew Xi contacted Paul Qian to cancel his meetings for the day and told him he needed his driver to come immediately as they needed to rush Zoey to the hospital.

Matthew Xi didn't detail everything to his reliable assistant as the order was executed properly. Fortunately, Matthew Xi was now in the position to cancel even important meetings as his presence was more important.

Shortly after the call was made, it only took thirty minutes for the chauffeur to arrive. Zoey, who was back on her slumber, was carried by her worried husband.

As they headed downstairs, Zion Kwan who was enjoying his morning tea knitted his brows. "What happened?" He asked, abruptly standing in his seat as he approached Matthew Xi who was carrying Zoey.

"Where are you taking her?" Trying to reach them, Zion Kwan didn't know where his hand should go as he wanted to help but Matthew Xi had been carrying Zoey.

"Hospital."

"I'm a doctor." Upon hearing his answer, Zion Kwan followed suit as Matthew Xi didn't stop in his tracks.

"But you're not the hospital." Without glancing at him, Matthew Xi replied causing the latter's brow to twitch.

What was this irrational train of thoughts now? Although Zion Kwan and Cora Ma were supposed to move out today, Zion Kwan had avoided Zoey and Matthew Xi for the entire week.

He would leave earlier than them and go home later than them. Thankfully, Cora Ma wasn't asking too many questions and understood that he needed to work extra hours in the hospital he was currently working at.

Hence, this was the first time in a week that Zion Kwan had a talk with Matthew Xi. Was that the reason why Matthew Xi did not consider calling him when he found out Zoey was sick?

"Check on her on the way." As soon as they left the door, Matthew Xi spoke while the driver waited with the back passenger seat wide open.

Upon hearing that, Zion Kwan sighed in relief as he followed. Both men didn't even bother to have a change of clothes as they were still in their pajamas and casual shirts.

Even Zoey was in a similar state; Matthew Xi just wrapped her up in their white blanket to cover her skin since she was wearing a nightgown. With that being said, their ride didn't waste a second as they sped away to LN Medical Group.

Inside the car, Zion Kwan started checking Zoey's temperature, by placing his palm on her forehead then followed other basic procedures.

"What happened this morning?" Even though he was in his pajamas, without any of his equipment — or even a pen to jot important things down — Zion Kwan inquired so he could have an initial check up on Zoey.

In that case, he could just fill in his colleagues about Zoey's condition to make things easier for them. After all, what he was about to ask were all the basic questions the emergency personnel would ask.

"She woke up suddenly, rushed toward the bathroom, vomiting nothing, and then went back to sleep. She said she felt sick, dizzy, and horrible." Matthew Xi didn't even glance at Zion Kwan as he looked down at Zoey in his lap. His eyes were full of worry the more he looked at how pale her lips were.

He just hoped there was nothing wrong or she hadn't inflicted any major health problems. Matthew Xi would hate to restrict her from going to work if that's the case. Even though she loved her job and her own company, Matthew Xi knew he wouldn't allow her to continue normally if she's having health issues.

After a moment of silence, Matthew Xi finally glanced at Zion Kwan. Zoey's brother was just blinking his eyes, darting his gaze from Zoey to him which made Matthew Xi to furrow his brows.

"Vomiting, dizziness... Does she sleep early? I mean, have you noticed any changes in her sleeping pattern? Also, her behavior towards food?" Cocking his head to the side, Zion Kwan inquired as his gaze locked with Matthew Xi.

For a moment, Matthew Xi pondered and the answer for all the questions was 'yes'. Zoey was sleeping much more lately and sometimes, she even glared at certain foods claiming that they made her feel sick. Not just that, but she could smell even the faintest scent; the reason why Matthew Xi stopped putting his perfume since she started saying it smelled rotten! It was a brutal remark but he didn't mind.

"Sign of pregnancy — it's normal. We still need to confirm it once we arrive at the hospital." Not excited nor relieved, Zion Kwan gulped down as he told him about his diagnosis. He then leaned his back against the leathered seat, slightly shook his head sideways as he didn't know how to feel about this news.

'Pregnant...?' Matthew Xi felt his ears deceived him with that last remark. Yet, his still heart felt like someone had thrown a small pebble in it causing ripples of inexplicable emotions in his heart.

"She's pregnant....?" Slowly, Matthew Xi looked down as myriads of questions rushed inside his head.
