When they arrived at LN Medical Group, Zoey already woke up from all the movements. Although this annoyed her, she remained quiet as she truly felt off today.
They did a lot of physical examinations on her. She could see Zion Kwan talking to one of the medical staff, as if informing her about his findings with his initial check up.
Glancing to her side, her gaze landed on Matthew Xi whose eyes gleamed with hundreds of emotions. "I'm fine." Zoey muttered, forcing a smile on her face as she assumed he was utterly worried.
Little did she know, Matthew Xi's main concern wasn't that. It was what Zion Kwan concluded back when they were on the way in the hospital.
"Oh my baby Z!" Just then, Vivian Xi, decked up in her fancy dress early in the morning, came running inside the hospital.
Seeing her mother-in-law glide her way towards her, her movements were rather dramatic as if Zoey was in a major accident, Zoey chuckled.
"Mom, keep it down." Despite his cold and emotionless voice, Matthew Xi's tone was laced with mutual concern as he lightly shook his head.
"My baby Zoey, what happened? Did this bad bad man do something to you? Did he stress you out? Is he not letting you sleep?" Ignoring Matthew Xi's remarks, Vivian Xi's series of questions rushed out from her lips as she darted her gaze from head to toe while Zoey was lying on the hospital bed.
Her hand stroked Zoey's forehead, the corner of her eyes formed tears as her heart ached for Zoey. If only she could take her pain away, Vivian Xi would take it away.
"Don't worry, baby Z. We'll hire the best doctors to treat you, okay? You'll be fine, as long as mommy is here!" Vivian Xi smiled, nodding her head in reassurance which made Zoey chuckle.
Zoey's heart was moved that Vivian Xi treated her genuinely and kindly. Not because she was her only son's wife, but Vivian Xi thought of her as her real daughter.
Feeling those warm emotions for the woman in front of her rise up once again, Zoey felt relieved to have such an amazing mother-in-law. Although she still felt dizzy and awful, Zoey's heart felt secure that she had a reliable and loving family to look after her.
In retrospect, Zoey couldn't afford getting sick. She would rather work despite being sick because she only had herself to take care of herself. But now, she didn't have to worry and could focus on recovering from whatever sickness she had.
"Miss Zhou, we had tested your urine and..." The doctor, who came in with Zion Kwan following behind her, paused as her gaze shifted away from the patient to Vivian Xi and Matthew Xi's similar piercing gaze.
For some reason, the energy from these two Xi's were threatening one way or another. Hence, the attending physician swallowed down a mouthful of saliva as she cleared her throat. "You are four weeks pregnant, and the abnormalities youve been experiencing was your body reacting to pregnancy hormones..." The doctor explained everything smoothly as she wasn't interrupted by the three.
"Morning sickness is normal, but because of your age, I advise that Missus Xi should avoid stress and take a leave from work to rest — for her and the baby. Again, congratulations Missus and Mister Xi. We will prescribe her medicines to take care of her and the baby." With a smile, the doctor scanned the faces of the three Xis who were stunned into silence.
The doctor raised her brows, still bearing the same smile as she wondered if they heard her or not. After all, their reactions were hard to explain; there was shock, stunned, Matthew Xi's unchanging front, and everything mixed into one.
"I think they are still surprised, Doc. I'll take the prescription and buy them." Since the three were taking their precious time to take in the news, Zion Kwan cleared his throat and talked to the doctor instead.
"Alright," Understanding as she was, the doctor nodded her head and left the three while Zion Kwan followed, glancing at the three before he shook his head.
'How odd.' He whispered internally, seeing that the three's reaction wasn't what he expected.
Although Matthew Xi had shown a bit of emotion in his eyes from his first findings, now that it was confirmed, they were akin to statues — especially Zoey.
"Pre —pregnant...?" Stuttering, Vivian Xi blinked her eyes multiple times before she slowly gazed down at Zoey. "My little Zoey is preggy? I'll be a grandmommy?" She added meekly, slowly shifting her eyes towards her son.
Slowly but surely, the corner of her lips curled into a large grin as she covered her gaped mouth with her palm; she gasped as her eyes welled up.
"My little Zoey..." Proud and emotional at the same time, Vivian Xi stared at Zoey lovingly as tears started staining her lean cheek.
I am... pregnant?" Still couldn't process the news completely, Zoey's eyes shook as she turned to Vivian Xi and then to her husband.
She could feel her heartbeat. It beat so fast that she could literally hear it. Her hand unconsciously moved to her tummy, caressing it gently as she could not believe that there was another life growing inside her tummy.
These foreign emotions... Zoey didn't know how to deal with it. It was a mix of surprise, her fears, but above all, happiness because it was his — it was a fruit of Matthew Xi and her love for each other.
"We're having a baby...?" Zoey's eyes glittered with a variety of colors, staring straight at Matthew Xi who was intently staring back at her.
Slowly, Matthew Xi's unmoving face softened, his heart melted at the confirmation of Zion Kwan's first conclusion. At first, he didn't want to get his hopes up because he was certain Zoey was still taking her pills.
How she got pregnant didn't matter. Whether the pills were defected or his love juices were just as strong as his desire to start a family with her anytime, it didn't matter. What matters now were the days ahead of them.
The future that he would see his child, hold him or her in his arms, and look at Zoey who was the mother of his child and the love of his life.
"Yes," Matthew Xi placed his hand over her hand. "We're pregnant.." He muttered, his eyes stung due to overwhelming emotions building up inside him while squeezing her hand tightly but lovingly.
