Zoey peeked outside her office, seeing Melanie Xue, Luigi Chan and some of her old employees who had resigned and stayed with the company. Earlier, Melanie Xue knocked on her office door but Zoey had to tell her the meeting for today was cancelled.
"God... did I really return eight years in the past? Reset?" Zoey muttered, leaning her back against the door as she breathed heavily.
Her people looked just like what they looked during this time. After all, eight year later, they would look mature just like Zoey. Still, it felt surreal.
Just yesterday, Zoey was standing in front of a man she had learned to despise more than Zachery Kwan. Just yesterday, Zoey had pulled the trigger which led to her untimely death.
But today, instead of going to hell as she expected, she had returned eight years in the past! No sane person would believe that easily! Not that she was sane enough as she had killed herself with a smirk on her lips.
Still, it was just like in the movies. That kind of stuff didn't happen in real life... or so what she believed. Just as Zoey was once again lost in her thoughts, she jolted upon hearing the loud knock from outside.
"Z!" Cora Ma's voice reached her ears, causing Zoey to stare at the door cautiously. She sneakily unlocked the door, and then hopped back carefully like a monkey.
"Come — ahem, come in." Zoey cleared her throat, walking a few more steps back as she readied herself to face her best friend.
"Zoey, what happe—" As soon as Cora Ma heard Zoey's permission, she opened the door and was ready to interrogate her why she was crying early in the morning.
However, as soon as Cora Ma laid her eyes on Zoey, her eyes widened as she immediately closed the door. "Z, why are you not wearing a bra—?!"
Before Cora Ma could knock some senses to Zoey, her words halted as Zoey suddenly pounced on her for a bear hug. "I missed you!" Zoey whispered, holding Cora Ma tightly as if Zoey hadn't seen her for a long time.
"Z..." More worried at how strange Zoey was acting, Cora Ma rubbed her back gently. "What happened? Did that jerk cheat on you?" Cora Ma meekly inquired as there was no reason for Zoey to act like this if not for that jerk Ezekiel Tang; Zoey's boyfriend.
"No," Shaking her head, Zoey loosened her embrace as she drew away from Cora Ma. "I'm just glad to see you again." Staring at the young Cora Ma, Zoey's tears could not stop from falling.
"But we were just together two days ago?" Cora Ma knitted her brows, not buying this reason despite that it was the truth.
"I just had a very long bad dream." Chuckling, Zoey might not remember every little detail in this timeline, but she was certain she mostly spent her time together with Cora Ma. To be exact, spending her time hearing Cora Ma diss her irresponsible boyfriend named Ezekiel Tang.
"Are you sure? Please Z, break up with that jerk already! It's not like he deserves you!" Cora Ma sighed, frowning as she completely believed that Zoey was sad again because of Ezekiel Tang.
"I know, I'm too pretty for him." Nodding her head, Zoey smiled as she stared at Cora Ma who squinted her eyes.
"Something really happened, I know. You don't easily agree with me." Narrowing her eyes, Cora Ma found Zoey's agreement rather suspicious.
"But before you fill me in — go shower first! Gosh, Z, how can you wear fitted sleeveless and short shorts in your office? You're running a company and you have an image to keep!" Despite Cora Ma's curiosity, she changed the subject because Zoey's erected nipples were poking through her thin sleeveless shirt!
It was hard to focus when the woman before her was barely clad! Good thing Cora Ma had closed the door even before everyone outside Zoey's office could see their boss.
After all, their office was rather small. Hence, it was easy for them to see Zoey with the slight move of their head if the door was open. Zoey knew that, as she woke up early and got dressed decently in her own office.
"Hehe." Seeing how Cora Ma scolded her, Zoey just smiled as she truly missed this lady.
God knows how thankful Zoey was to have another second chance in life. She was thankful to meet the little dumpling that explained what was going on — albeit vaguely.
Still, this never happened everyday and Zoey swore that in this lifetime, this reset, she would protect them. Even if she has to use her body as a shield, she would take a bullet for them.
In that case, Cora Ma, Zion Kwan, Vivian Xi, Enzo Li, Paul Qian, and her beloved Matthew Xi could live their life. To do that, Zoey had to strip herself from naivety and had to be cautious... even from herself — especially from herself.
"Z, you're creeping me out. Go shower now. I have to go to work before lunch." Seeing Zoey just staring at her with a gentle smile, Cora Ma shuddered as she shooed her away.
"Sis, I love you." Before Zoey could go back to her small room, she turned around and winked at Cora Ma.
Upon hearing those sweet remarks, Cora Ma gasped in disbelief. "There's really something wrong with her..." Cora Ma murmured, watching Zoey skip her steps towards her room.
"Oh god... did she really break up with that jerk?" As Cora Ma walked towards the small old seat in the small office, she tilted her head to the side.
Was this the reason Zoey was oddly clingy? She's now single? Did she finally realize that Ezekiel Tang was just a jerk, one who only knew how to take her for granted? If that was the case... Cora Ma's eyes brightened, glad that Zoey finally broke free from Ezekiel Tang's spell.
Little did Cora Ma know, Zoey's perspective was eight years older than the current timeline. That she didn't only move on from Ezekiel Tang, but also had a husband that occupied her heart.
"Well, this calls for a celebration, right?" Cora Ma giggled, a mischievous smile forming on her lips.
