Chapter 306 - Unexpected Winner

Zoey didn't feel the need to rush back. After all, she had already accepted her defeat. Yet, she was rather calm despite knowing that she would be Kenneth Bai's slave.

Why? Kenneth Bai was easily manipulated and he wouldn't just boss Zoey around. She knew him very well and even though there were vast differences between the younger and older version of Kenneth Bai, yet they were still the same person.

With that thought in mind, Zoey returned to the starting point languidly. She, Ivan, and Angelo took their sweet time as they drove back.

When Zoey could see the starting and also the finish line, her brows knitted at the lack of audience. Soon, as she approached closer, her thought bubble was filled with question marks.

Zoey continued until she reached the finish line. She then scanned the area, everyone's jaw dropped as their eyes were glued on her figure. Meanwhile, Zoey raised her visor and looked around.

"What's going on?" She muttered. She couldn't see Rem, some of his colleagues, Enzo Li, Lucas Xi, his opponent Kenneth Bai, and the love of her life, Matthew Xi.

Almost the audience from the club were left behind at this point, and some that coordinated the race. But the most important people were not around. What was going on?

Same as Zoey, Angelo and Ivan looked at each other in confusion. They had the same question like Zoey but everyone seemed to be in a deeper shock than the three of them.

Shortly after, one of Rem's people who had stayed behind, finally snapped back to reality. "Joey!" He shouted, jogging his way towards Zoey's standpoint.

"Yo," Zoey watched him come closer, cocking her head to the side as she waited for him to explain what was happening.

She was uncertain if the race had ended, or if something had happened. Still, why would Rem have to go with them? Not that he had some business with them... well, there was — the bettings — but Rem wouldn't dare touch Kenneth Bai if he wanted to continue living peacefully.

"Jeez..." The man rested his palm on his knee, panting for air as he looked up at Zoey. "Rem, Joey is here... and won." He fished out his phone, spoke through it — perhaps a voice mail — and reported which caused Zoey's eyes to widen.

"Huh???" Utterly baffled at what he meant by his last remarks, Zoey blinked her eyes many times as she slowly removed her helmet.

Maybe, she thought, it was that her helmet was too thick that she heard him wrong. How could she win if she had lagged behind? She even had the leisure to chat with Ivan!

Thus, how could she win? Did Kenneth Bai have an accident?! Was that the problem?!

"Damn you, Joey! Where did you go?! Everyone went to look for you since the other contender made a U-turn before he could reach the finish line! How can you make everyone worry —?!" When the man finally stabilized his breathing, he inhaled deeply before scolding Zoey.

However, even before he could finish his sentence, he abruptly stopped upon laying his eyes on Zoey's ethereal beauty! He blinked his eyes many times while Zoey shook her head and her hair followed its movements.

"What?" Zoey combed her hair by her fingers, facing one of Rem's men with questioning eyes. However, the man seemed to be stunned about something that made him stare at her for a good minute without a word.

"Hey?" Since the man before her stopped functioning, Zoey snapped her fingers in front of him.

"Oy!" Zoey waved her hand in front of the man until he snapped from his trance.

"I — I — they —" Yet, he stuttered, causing Zoey's face to distort as she couldn't understand a thing.

"Can you speak properly?" Zoey hissed in dismay, clicking her tongue in annoyance. "How can I win? Did Bai Kenneth get into an accident? Is Rem being held captive by Bai Kenneth's friends? Tell me!" Zoey spouted a series of questions she needed to have answers immediately.

Right now, that's the only possibility why Kenneth Bai hadn't arrived yet. If she thought it this way, all the pieces fit perfectly!

"Uhm..." The man cleared his throat, trying to figure out which answer should be given first. "N — no, Miss Joey." He paused, shaking his head sideways.

"Mr. Bai had almost reached the finish line but..." The man looked up, a pool of conflict waved across his eyes. "But he made a u-turn for some reason. Rem and others followed since we all assumed something bad had happened." The man cleared his mind and explained it in the simplest way.

"Uh..." Zoey processed his explanation slowly but surely. Her mind automatically made a scene of what happened by that short explanation.

She knew Matthew Xi, he would turn the city outside down — if this was in the previous life. But, Zoey was uncertain in this lifetime. After all, Matthew Xi just met her tonight and kissed her for a minute or two.

He wouldn't bother everyone just because they assumed she was caught, right? Not for a person he just met and kissed, right? Yet, no matter how much Zoey tried to engrave this idea in her head, she felt restless.

*TING!*

Just as Zoey was thinking about what to do, they heard a notification sound from the man's mobile phone in front of her. He immediately fished his phone out of his pocket and checked the message.

"Tell Jo to stay there! Damn!" As the man played the voice mail, Zoey and him heard Rem's agitated voice.

"O— okay..." The man replied, confusion laced his voice as he glanced at the beauty before him.

"What is he so mad about...?" Zoey murmured, knitting her brows as it seemed there was no need to find Kenneth Bai on the road.

Meanwhile...

"Young Master, I contacted all police headquarters around the city and the person you're looking for isn't in their custody." Through his earpiece, Matthew Xi heard Paul Qian's report.

Currently, Matthew Xi deployed his men for a search, and even contacted the chief of police regarding a rider he was looking for. Within a short span of time, everyone had to move and fulfill the uncrowned king of the country.

On the other hand, Matthew Xi had made his own search as he turned into every alley to see if there was an accident; Kenneth Bai and Enzo Li had tagged along as well.

They split in three groups: Rem leading Matthew Xi as he knew every turn of the city, others accompanied Enzo Li, while the third group were mostly Rem's men doing their own search.

Kenneth Bai was all on his own since he knew the city well and no one would catch him with his current speed. Moreover, he was a grown man and a professional racer — no one bothered to get worried about him.

"Boss, they said Joey is already at the starting point." Suddenly, Matthew Xi heard Rem's voice come through his earpiece. Without further ado, he drifted and headed back to where they came from.

The pair of russet eyes glinted that could make everyone who glimpsed at it, shiver in fear. He didn't even need to talk because everyone who received their earpiece earlier had heard Rem as they were all connected. Credits to Matthew Xi's power and his reliable men that caught each and everyone of them to deliver the ear piece.

Little did Zoey know, her night would turn upside down once these men returned to the starting point where she waited peacefully.
