Zoey coughed, patting her chest as she didn't see that coming. "What?" She asked, her eyes narrowed in dismay.
"You said you're a time-traveler, can't you predict that?" In a matter-of-fact tone, Matthew gave her another side eye before refocusing his gaze back on the road. "Since you can't, I want to find out myself." He added, driving to where he wanted to take her.
In his perspective, Matthew recalled the story she had been writing that he had secretly read. Obviously, since he was invested in the story, Matthew immediately thought of it when he had those memories that had been haunting him.
The story she wrote was exactly the same as those memories. Matthew had thought that maybe, the reason he was having those memories or vivid dreams was because he read her story. But, for some reason, he couldn't convince himself into accepting that.
After all, Matthew felt that those dreams… he wasn't thinking he was Levi, but he was Levi. Not to mention, the very first vision he had seen was the dying part and he hadn't read the story she was writing that time.
Therefore, he was here. Matthew already considered he would cut ties with her knowing what the Xi Family could do to her if something happened to him. However, Matthew was selfish and changed his mind at the last minute.
The reason they were now together today. He needed to find out this inexplicable phenomena he had been experiencing that seemed to be related to her.
"Find out that you're my wife?" Zoey gasped, shaking her head. "I mean, husband?" She corrected, narrowing her eyes suspiciously as she stared at his perfect side profile.
"Mhmm, and also…" Matthew paused, sneaking a glance at her. "I think I'm better than your husband." Out of nowhere, Matthew uttered which made her knit her brows.
'Ah?" Zoey tilted her head to the side, staring at him as if expecting some kind of clarification from his last remarks. However, Matthew didn't speak anymore and remained silent.
"I remember mentioning my husband once or twice… why is he still at it?' Since Zoey knew him well and knew that he wouldn't clarify himself. She rubbed her chin and racked her brain but to no avail.
Zoey recalled saying she had a husband which he didn't believe in the past. But now, he was actually competing with him?
'First it was Paul, now he also treats himself as a threat?' Zoey thought internally, rubbing her chin as her mind wandered somewhere else.
"I don't like Levi's character." After minutes of silence, Matthew's lips parted again and his cold low voice mixed with the inbound breeze of the car.
"Ah?" Zoey snapped, turning her head to the driver's seat as she blinked her eyes many times. "What do you mean?" Zoey inquired, arching her right brow.
"He is indecisive, a fool, and unbelievable. He doesn't stand up to his name and title." In a matter-of-fact tone, Matthew criticized which made her brows twitch.
'Why does he sound so weird insulting his future self?' Zoey thought internally, not making a sound as she tried to remain silent while he gave his insight.
"You described him like he has the same standing as me, that's why I said he's unbelievably stupid." Matthew continued, not batting an eye despite knowing that there's a possibility that he was insulting himself -- IF ever that's the case.
"They wouldn't have a tragic ending if he has a stronger character." He shrugged, casting her a glance as they stopped at the red light. "On second thought, since it was written from a first person perspective, the knowledge of why he was like that is limited. Poor him, you didn't give him justice that's why he decided those things and did those things." Matthew added as he stared at her straight in the eye.
The expression in his eyes was as if telling her she was making her male lead be hated. She didn't give justification on his existence that much.
Upon processing his last remarks, Zoey pursed her lips into a thin line. 'I know…' She answered inwardly, feeling a little guilty as she didn't explain Matthew's side in the story because she couldn't.
That's why she was with him right now. Zoey realized how little she knew about the man she had married in the past. She couldn't keep guessing and wanted to find out. Moreover, for some reason, although her guards were still up to protect him, Zoey couldn't underestimate him.
Matthew could protect himself; at the very least, in this lifetime, he was cautious and aggressive. He would be more cautious with his surroundings and adjust like what he had been proving to her ever since this second chance at life started.
"I'll show you the difference between that character and me…" Matthew paused as he accelerated his speed ever so slowly when the light turned green. "Since you designed him just like me. I want to show you the difference between the goody two shoes of a man and the fact why he couldn't stay pure if he wanted to maintain standing at the top."
Zoey studied his side profile. As always, there wasn't much change in his expression as he spouted his last remarks. 'It's funny how our thoughts always compliment each other from then till now.' She admired, her eyes twinkling as she didn't expect that confirming some facts would be this easy.
Actually, part of her didn't think he would be willing to show who he truly was. Still, Zoey would always have her plans laid out if plan A didn't work. Who would have thought that Matthew was already planning to show more of him?
The journey was spent in silence, Zoey unknowingly admiring her beautiful driver while Matthew would constantly glance at her twinkling eyes. After a good while, Zoey finally realized it's been a while since they were driving and haven't arrived yet.
"Uhh… where are we going?" She asked, taking a peek through the window as they seemed they'd been far from the city.
"My place.." Without a second hesitation, Matthew replied bearing the same cold tone.
