Chapter 429 - Back In The City

"My place." Zoey gasped, her entire face distorted out of shock.

"Your place?!" Her question nearly came out as a yell. "Where?!" She asked once more, turning her head towards the window as she couldn't recognize the road they were taking.

Zoey had been in Matthew's mansion in her previous life. Heck, she even lived in his place for a short period of time after he died.

However, this wasn't in her knowledge. 'He had a secret house?! What did he keep in there and why didn't he tell me?' Zoey was rendered speechless, darting her eyes full of disbelief from the windshield to his side profile.

"Mhmm," Matthew hummed a tune, sneaking glances of her utterly surprised front which to him was a little suspicious. "Do you like cats?" He asked, still driving at the same pace.

"Ah?" Still in the process of recovering, Zoey tilted her head to the side. "Cats?" For some reason, the second she said that word, her eyes gleamed.

'Right, he told me before he had a cute cat! I wonder how cute it is!' Zoey wondered excitedly inside her mind.

In retrospect, Matthew had mentioned having a cat in their previous life. Although he didn't say much about it, Zoey discerned that the cat was important to him.

Alas, for some reason, Matthew didn't want to adopt one again. His reason? His so-called cat 'would remain forever in his heart'. That was what he had said, and Zoey didn't probe further as she got pregnant before she could.

Now, she could finally have a chance to see his beloved pet. Not to mention, visit this secret house of his which she has never been in in her previous life.

"Mhmm..." Once again, Matthew hummed a low tune as he glanced at her for a short time. "You do?" He asked, noticing her excitement upon the discussion which resurfaced a mischievous smirk on the corner of his lips.

Zoey noticed the curl on the side of his lips that only appeared for a second before it vanished. "Well, I like cats or dogs or any pets." Zoey shrugged, rubbing her chin lightly as she nodded her head.

"Why don't you have one?" Matthew queried.

"I can't even take care of myself; how can I take care of it?" In a matter-of-fact tone, Zoey sassed indifferently.

It was true, though. Zoey had always wanted to have a pet in her previous life. However, she knew she wouldn't have the time to take care of it. Therefore, instead of adopting one, Zoey donated to charities for stray dogs and cats; she would also donate for some orphans' education.

"Makes sense." Matthew nodded his head in understanding, agreeing with her argument.

Once again, silence enveloped the two as the conversation stopped at Matthew's last sentence. Zoey didn't strike another conversation as she focused on the road they were taking. After all, she needed to memorize this secret place of his just in case she needed to get in here in the future.

Soon, to Zoey's surprise, Matthew stopped in an open space. Yes, it was an open plain field where a chopper was waiting for them. "Don't tell me…" Zoey's brows twitched, glancing at him who was unbuckling his seat.

"We'll go by the chopper." He said facing her, bearing a knowing look after he unbuckled his seat. "Let's go." He ordered, opening the door while Zoey watched him helplessly.

'What's the long drive for if we're going by a chopper anyway?' She wondered in disbelief. Knowing Matthew, they could have used the nearest helipad and fly to wherever his place was. Yet, Matthew drove for more than an hour just to reach this open field outside the city just so they could go by the chopper?

How more suspicious could he be? Zoey thought internally, shaking her head as she began unbuckling her seat. Just as she was unbuckling her seat, the door of the front passenger seat opened.

"I'm coming…" Her tone was lifeless as she turned to him who was leaning down from outside. "Are we going outside the country? Please say no." Zoey bore her poker face, looking up at him who carried his usual cold visage.

"Request granted, no." Matthew stepped aside, shrugging his shoulders as the side of his lips slightly curled into a playful smile.

Upon seeing the look on his lips, Zoey sighed heavily. "I have a bad feeling about this." Zoey murmured, massaging her temples before hitching outside. Zoey glanced at him before rolling her eyes while Matthew lightly chuckled.

"Geez…" Zoey ground her teeth, stomping her feet towards the chopper.

The harsh wind that was caused by the chopper's rotor blew past her. Her hair tangled in the air as she protected her eyes by lifting her hand over her forehead. "Young Master," The men outside greeted, bowing their heads at the man standing behind Zoey.

Although the loud noise of the rotor spinning over the helicopter filled the air, Zoey grasped their words as it was obvious. "Thank you," Matthew just said shortly, walking to her side as he extended his hand to her.

"Please." He mouthed. Zoey hesitated a little before taking it. Well, she's already here. So, might as well proceed with his plan, although it was now impossible for her to trace where they were heading next.

Matthew assisted Zoey inside the helicopter before he followed inside. He helped her to put on their gears. "Sit tightly," Slowly, he leaned closer to her as he reminded her playfully.

Zoey's face, which had already displayed the look of dismay, watched him put on his earmuffs. "I feel like you're going to take me to a desolate island where you'll lock me away from civilization." Zoey muttered, her words transferred to his earmuffs which he heard loud and clear.

"Haha, if you want to, why not?" Matthew chuckled, humoring her as he also had an island where he could do what she had just said. Sadly, that's not his plan for today.

"Jeez I'm not even joking." Zoey sighed heavily, shaking her head as she was listening to the pre-takeoff briefing. "Where is this place, anyway?" Zoey probed, obviously curious and hoping she would have a hint.

Little did she know, she didn't need to hope as Matthew didn't plan on hiding it from her. "Back in the city.." Without batting an eye, Matthew answered indifferently.
