"Back in the city." Zoey gasped, not believing her ears at his answer.
"In the city?!" She repeated in a high questioning pitch. "You mean we will return?" She added, confirming if the headset wasn't deceiving her ears.
"Mhmm," Matthew just hummed, casting her a knowing look. "Back in the city." Since she seemed to be in utter disbelief, Matthew repeated once more.
"What? Why?" Zoey questioned. However, Matthew just cast her a knowing look as if the answer was obvious.
The problem was that it wasn't really obvious like he seemed to make it out to be! 'What the heck?!' Zoey grumbled internally, studying his laid back side profile before glancing back at her.
"You'll like what you'll see on the way. Just enjoy." Matthew winked, the side of his lips curled into a playful smile as his eye flashed with an inexplicable glint.
Zoey just frowned in return, exhaling heavily as they soon took off. She remained silent, her gaze staring down as they flew up in the sky. 'Why do we need to take off here if his place is just in the city? How strange…' Zoey muttered inwardly, her mind slowly wandered as she repeated the thought inside her mind.
'If he had another place in the city…' Zoey paused her inner thoughts, blinking her eyes ever so slowly as she saw the little houses and fields in this town grew smaller by the distance. 'Then, the only reason I can think of why he needed to go through all this trouble is because he didn't want to be followed or someone knowing that place.' She resumed, slowly turning her head to him who was looking at the window on his side.
'What is he hiding?' Zoey asked herself, scanning his noble-looking figure in silence. 'And why will he tell me that?' She wondered, considering he would take her to his suspicious secret place.
If Matthew didn't trust anyone about it, why would he willingly take her? Zoey would think it was not important and assume he just didn't want anyone disturbing him if he ever wanted some peace. However, for some reason, Zoey doubted that was the case.
It was possible, but at some point, Matthew had islands to stay in if he needed peace. Or rather, he could just shut himself in in his private villa. But, why keep this hidden? Just why? The more she thought about it, more questions floated inside her head.
'Ughh! This is so frustrating!' Distressed, Zoey massaged her temples as she retracted her gaze away from him. 'I'll know anyway. Why bother thinking about it? I'll be surprised either way. I just hope he won't turn out to be a serial killer.' Zoey dissed internally, arguing with herself as there was no point in bothering herself.
After all, even if she ended up guessing it right, she would still be surprised. She knew him as a kind and pure man who did business justly. Thus, whatever lied after this flight trip, Zoey could only brace herself from whatever surprise she was about to face.
'I'm still not sure, but I sort of dislike this anticipation.' Zoey rolled her eyes, feeling her anxiety creep in as she bit the nail of her thumb.
Little did she know, Matthew turned his head to him and noticed her nervousness. "Don't bite your nail." His voice rang through the headphones, as his hand sprawling out to her hand.
Slowly, Matthew reached her wrist and pulled it away gently from her lips. "We'll get there soon." He paused. Zoey raised her eyes towards him and saw him perk up his chin lightly, pointing at the window on her side.
"Enjoy the view." He said. Zoey instinctively turned her head to her window.
At first, there were clouds that blocked the view. But in the next second, the city view appeared. Although it was daytime, Zoey was in awe at the sight of it.
"Wow…" She awed through a whisper, her eyes twinkling as she could see almost the entire map of the city. "Wah… the XI Corporation building stands out from here." Without thinking of the words that slipped past her lips, Zoey admired the towering building which stood out among all the buildings around.
Even from the height they were flying in, the XI Corporation building didn't seem that small. Surely, seeing things from a different perspective was enlightening.
"Even before, I didn't think of flying to see what our city actually looks like from here." She whispered, recalling the times in her previous life where she was already an established business woman.
Zoey had been abroad in the past many times. However, she didn't have the leisure, or rather, she didn't consider having an aerial trip just to admire the city she lived in. Therefore, this experience was new to her.
Meanwhile, Matthew's lips curled into a pleased smile. He was pleased to see her reaction, watching her was enough for him.. After all, he had seen the entire city many times because he was bored.
He was often bored. The reason he had been inclined to see some chaos. But before he leveled up to that thinking, Matthew had tried numerous extreme activities. Although this one wasn't considered as one of them, he still did for the same reason.
Since she was busy admiring the view, his lips donned on a mischievous one. Taking this chance in his advantage, Matthew slipped his fingers in between the gaps of hers.
'How rough…' Matthew commented internally, feeling her rough palms which he was already aware about. 'At the same time, too delicate.' He added, confusing anyone who might be reading his thoughts.
'But our hands aren't that different.' As he played with her hands, Matthew thought internally. In his perspective, the only difference between him and Zoey was that he was born rich.
Matthew didn't even need to lift his fingers if he wanted something. On the other hand, Zoey had to do everything herself… not those daily chores, but something more deeper.
'Either way…' Slowly, Matthew raised his head upon sensing her stare. 'You're trapped with me, Zhou Zoey.' Without a word, Matthew smirked as he met her puzzled gaze while darting her eyes from their hands and to his eyes.. She tried pulling it away but to no avail.
