They spent the whole trip to the Z Image Building in silence. Both Carter and Ryan didn't speak a word, but inside their mind, her words kept repeating. On the other hand, Zoey didn't speak anymore as she watched which road they were taking.
Since she didn't travel by the chopper this time, Zoey got the grasp of the location of the mansion. Therefore, she already knew how to get there alone. Still, it was amusing that inside the city, there was a mansion that hid an army of skilled men.
'Surely, having money does a lot of things, huh?' She thought internally, recalling the faces Matthew was talking to last night.
Last night, she was too mind blown that she couldn't recognize the people around Matthew last night. However, now that she had some peace alone, Zoey finally remembered where she had seen those familiar faces.
Aside from Kenneth's father, General Bai, the rest were also a part of the government. Each had an important position in the country; they decided a citizen's fate and they had the biggest part in deciding for the country.
Zoey didn't need to ask why they were all Matthew's underdogs. After all, the latter was the wealthiest man in the country. With his support, money, and influence, Matthew could help them reach even higher pedestals.
"We've arrived." While she was deep in her thoughts, Zoey snapped back from her trance upon Ryan's call.
"Uh?" Zoey blinked her eyes many times, moving her head around to see Z Image Building in front of her. "Thanks!" She nodded, opening the door while Ryan exited the front passenger seat as well.
"Oh? You've decided?" As she hitched outside the car, she turned to Ryan closing the front passenger seat's door. "Don't say 'yes' first. I'll prove to you that I don't need you at the moment." However, before Ryan could respond, Zoey waved her hand lightly.
"Come out." Zoey knocked on the window, alerting Carter who was in the drivers seat. The window rolled down, causing her to lean down. "Park here, it's fine." She said, gesturing Carter to come out of the car.
After a brief contemplation, Carter finally departed the driver's seat. He looked at Zoey over the car, bearing zero emotion. "I'll introduce you to someone." Without further ado, Zoey uttered and began striding towards the building's entrance.
Ryan and Carter looked at each other shortly before following her tracks. Obviously, the two lowered their guards as they didn't sense the dangers lurking around them. To be fair, following Zoey was the complete opposite when they tagged along with Matthew.
After all, whenever they were around Matthew, everyone who was with him had their guards up. Anything could happen when they were with him. Thus, lowering their guards like right now could cost them their lives.
"Wow! You finally came!" Just then, Ivan's voice reached their standpoint. He was clapping slowly, wearing a large shirt and sweatpants, a small towel on his shoulders as he was holding a map. In other words, he looked like a janitor who wasn't in his uniform by his appearance.
Carter and Ryan slowly turned to Ivan's direction. Meanwhile, the side of Zoey's lips curled into a smirk as she turned to him. "I see you like your new job." She teased, the side of her lips grew wider as she grinned.
"You brought new friends?" Ivan glanced at the two. His eyes traveled from their head to toe before a short chuckle slipped past his lips. "They're that guy's men?" His tone bore mockery, as if he could not believe that a man like Matthew could only have these men with him.
Although Ivan was speaking in English, both men had studied a few languages under Matthew because their line of work needed knowledge on everything. Of course, Ivan's reaction immediately irked the two. The air slowly built up tension. Both pairs of eyes glinted as they scrutinized Ivan. Zoey glanced at Carter and Ryan's side profile before she smirked.
"Watch your words, boy." Carter was the first to break the tension, warning Ivan to shut his mouth. "Ignorance is a bliss, huh?" He added, scoffing at him while his eyes didn't leave Ivan's figure.
"Oh?" Yet Ivan was unfazed, blinking his eyes languidly.
"If you don't like what you're hearing, how about we cut your ears?" Just then, a voice behind them caressed their ears. As soon as they sensed the presence behind them, Ryan immediately turned around as his hand reached for the pistol hid behind him.
However, just as he did, a round metallic was placed on his forehead. On the other hand, Carter felt a solid metal on the back of his head. There, Angelo was holding pistols, pointing at the two without batting an eye.
"Gelo, as far as I know, that's not ears but heads." In a matter-of-fact tone, Ivan humored as it was followed by a chuckle.
Without moving a muzzle, staring straight at Angelo who was staring back at him indifferently, Ryan asked. "Miss Z, what's the meaning of this?" He didn't sense Angelo's presence until he revealed himself.
Now that Ryan thought about it, they didn't notice Ivan as well until he called out to Zoey. Just what the heck was happening? After all, upon sensing Angelo, Ryan could finally feel that they were not just ordinary people. They were far more dangerous than the people they had encountered so far.
Was this because Matthew was not with them? Was Matthew's absence the cause of this fear that deep down, they knew these people weren't up for negotiation for their lives if they wanted them dead right now?
'Sh*t! It's just two versus two, but why am I feeling so hopeless?!' Frustrated, Ryan ground his teeth as he glared at Angelo. He was trying to search for an opening. The problem was, Angelo was too open, but at the same time, Ryan couldn't take advantage of it because he knew it was a bait.
"Did you plan all this, Miss Z?" Carter queried, casting a glare at Zoey's emotionless countenance.
"Haha!" Zoey chuckled, shaking her head. "No. I didn't talk to them about this at all." She explained, glancing at Angelo before gesturing to him to put down his toys. "Their actions were all solely because they were reading the way I walked inside." In a matter-of-fact tone, she clarified while Angelo slowly retrieved his guns.
"I told you, didn't I?" Zoey paused, tilting her head to the side. "I'll prove to you why you shouldn't bother with me. You're too…" Once again, Zoey paused as she peered at them from head to toe. "... amateur.. You can't do the job."
