Chapter 480 - Did I Pass The Question?

For a moment, they stared at each in silence. Matthew studied her cunning and seductive front, causing his eyes to glint as her expression was teasing him. As she leaned closer once again, Matthew placed his finger on her lips, stopping it from whatever intention she has for his lips.

"Naughty little Z." He teased, humoring her for a bit. "This makes me wonder what you want at this moment." He said, raising his right brow as he knew Zoey had an ulterior motive for seducing him.

"Let Ivan and Angelo join your men for the meantime. They wouldn't be part of your crew, though. Ivan is loyal and wouldn't change master — same with Angelo. Your men need to meet people like them." Zoey drew closer, chuckling briefly as Matthew figured her other motive other than her desire for him.

"Don't misunderstand, my darling. I don't underestimate your men… I just hate the thought that they're like headless chickens without you… they'll all die." Zoey muttered, her voice lowered at her last sentiments as she knew deep down, these people would die if they didn't mature more.

In her perspective, Carter, Owen, and Ryan were all remarkable individuals. However, they lack the sense of knowledge and keen instincts to decide on their own. Although their will to protect Matthew was undeniably strong, will alone wouldn't save Matthew.

Therefore, if Zoey wanted to protect him in this lifetime, she must surround him with smart and capable people. They must know how to read the situation by Matthew's actions instead of always guessing.

Just like what Angelo and Ivan did earlier; they got Zoey's signal by the way she walked and touched her ears. Although her action meant danger, the two didn't open fire immediately because they knew Zoey wouldn't be in that situation and bring them in Z Image Building if she didn't want them alive.

Zoey needed those three people who had important roles in Matthew's security to understand those things. And she knew they would learn that by hanging out with Ivan and his observation skills and with Angelo with his quick-wits to adapt to the situation.

Once again, the entire car fell into silence as neither Zoey and Matthew spoke. He studied her side profile, leaning his back languidly. "Why do you care so much?" He asked, glancing at her calmly.

"Not just today, but from the beginning — back at the bar. You showed up, stopping the drink that had a drug in it to go to my system. Why?" Before she could answer, Matthew recalled before throwing another question. "Some part of me thinks you know me more than the people who have been with me for a long time…" There was a long pause in his words as he narrowed his eyes.

"... Who are you, really?" He inquired, remembering all the memories or what he called odd dreams in his head.

"You already said it," Zoey shrugged her shoulders, blinking her eyes slowly. "Didn't you want to date me to find out if I'll be your wife?" She reminded him of his words, letting out a heavy exhale.

"I'm proving to you that I am." When Zoey resumed, her eyes unwavering as she stared at him in utter seriousness. "Have I asked you about time-traveling? It might sound silly, but I came from the future." She shrugged, her tone sounded as if she was joking but there was a sincere genuineness in it that he noticed.

At this point, they heard a faint knock from outside the car. Slowly, Matthew turned to his side of the window while Zoey did the same. He rolled the window down, Paul was standing outside.

"Young Master, some of our men escorted the man to get treated. Mister Ivan wanted to take Carter with him for the night. About the other person…" When the window rolled down, revealing Matthew and Zoey, Paul began reporting. But, his words trailed off upon reporting about Angelo.

"Take him to the base." Matthew, quick as ever, immediately gave his order about Angelo.

"Yes, young master." Paul bowed his head, accepting the order immediately. With that being said, Matthew rolled the window up once again as they waited for Paul to finish so they could head home.

"That's a quick decision." As the window closed once again, Zoey commented while nodding her head approvingly "Say, darling, aren't you afraid I'd betray you? I mean you saw what I did and I might just be trying to get your trust." Out of curiosity, Zoey wondered.

Sure, Zoey didn't have those ideas. Even so, the only thing that made her execute her plans of protecting him easily was because she didn't have to deal's Matthew's trust issues. He trusted her words without too much question which was strange because his activities in this lifetime were filled with blood and betrayals.

One wouldn't be surprised if Zoey ended up selling Matthew out. After all, it was Matthew who gave her his hundred percent trust.

"Will you kill me?" After a second, Matthew inquired.

"Uh, no? But, I'm asking 'IF'." She stressed, wanting to hear a sensible answer to satisfy her curiosity. "Also, no one admits that they are not trustworthy." She added, sighing as she shook her head.

For a minute, Matthew peered at her before he averted his gaze away. "I don't know." He said, his expression unchanging as always. "I just know that even if the world turns its back on me, you wouldn't." He answered, his tone low as a deep sigh slipped past his lips before he returned his eyes back on her.

"Maybe I don't remember or recognize you from the future, but deep down, here…" Slowly, Matthew reached for her hand and guided it to his chest. "... it knows the things my mind doesn't." He resumed, staring straight at her eyes as he explained the reason he trusted her too much that it also shocked himself.

"I see…" Zoey nodded, the corner of her lips curled into a subtle smile.

"Did I pass the question?"

"Barely.." She humored, as both their lips tilted into a smile with his hand holding her.
