[Inside the XI Corporation CEO's office]
The entire office was enveloped in dread and silence. The woman sitting on the swivel chair which everyone considered to be Matthew's throne was sipping from a cup of tea.
"She looks promising." Vivian muttered calmly as she placed the cup of tea over the saucer. "I should set up the date with my son. He might like her!"
Vivian exclaimed approvingly before turning to the next page. Currently, she was skimming through profiles of women in the upper echelon. It was as if she was going through candidates for a drama.
"Oh?" Vivian arched her right brow upon flipping the page thrice. "She looks nice too and has a good background."
She muttered and nodded in satisfaction. Since her son hadn't shown himself for a week, Vivian would surely fill his schedule with blind dates. After all, her son had been single all his life.
Although Matthew had ditched a few blind dates while spoiling others with his lame attitude, Vivian was determined. She wouldn't just give up. Her son was still young and she should force him to meet until someone could pique his interest.
"Chairwoman, I thought the Young Master was seeing someone?" Suddenly, Butler Yi approached Vivian's side and bowed. "Don't you think this is all for naught?"
"Butler Yi, how could you say that to me?" Vivian harrumphed as she glared daggers at her right hand man. "I heard about it but do you think I will let someone like her be my daughter-in-law?!"
Viviab's voice thundered across the room as she tossed Zoey's picture on the desk. However, the photo was when Zoey had that horrendous makeup that was taken in the company's lobby!
Of course, Vivian had people looking out for the 'woman' who came to see her son. Although Matthew collapsed that day and was enraged when Zoey was taken in in the military base, it only added to her dislike towards that strange woman.
Who in their right mind would want someone who put so much makeup and exclaim she's dazzling? Vivian preferred a modest lady that wouldn't bring shame to her Xi Family. Thus, someone like Zoey who lacked those qualities, she wouldn't just accept her so easily.
"But this is the first time the Young Master let someone in in his office for personal reasons." Butler Yi answered in the same composed demeanor.
Everyone who were inside the office who were standing on the side wordlessly swallowed a mouthful of saliva. No one could talk bluntly to the chairwoman unless they have a death wish.
She's the current Queen, after all. Thus, she held the same power as Matthew… perhaps, her words were more influential.
"I don't care!" Vivian sassed as she tossed the folder of women's folder towards the desk. She had lost interest in going through them as Butler Yi spoilt her mood.
"My son has eyes for weird things. Who knows what that unknown woman's intentions are for approaching my son? If only I knew, she put all that makeup to lure my son knowing he is always intrigued by weird people?"
Vivian scoffed as she glanced at Zoey's horrendous photo. She could not help her face but distort in disappointment the longer she stared at the picture.
Although Vivian didn't personally meet Zoey back then, she already disliked her. It was too much of a coincidence that her healthy son would faint when Zoey was around. She must have done something unbelievable!
Everything is possible. A lot of people didn't like Matthew. Thanks to his position and his brilliant mind, despite others' dissatisfaction, they couldn't do anything to him. Still, if one of them wanted to revolt and use a woman to seduce her son, then Matthew was in danger!
Or so what Vivian wanted to believe. Her son was a man, after all. Men are all the same no matter how remarkable they were once a person found their soft spots.
"I believe the Young Master would already know that if Miss Ling had ill-intentions."
"Butler Yi, don't push your luck too far!" Annoyed, Vivian glared at Butler Yi who was unfazed by her unpleasant mood. Still, she could only shut him up but didn't do anything aside from glaring at him.
Just then, Matthew's cold yet calm voice came inside the office. "Butler Yi is right. Mother, you're wasting your energy."
Slowly, Vivian raised her head to the door. There, Matthew was entering ever so slowly and beamed her a subtle smile. He then shifted his gaze towards Butler Yi who bowed as a greeting to the young master.
"Hah!" Vivian scoffed in dismay, peering at the approaching Matthew from her to toe. "After a week of absence without telling me where you have gone, you're ganging up with Butler Yi?!"
Vivian raised her right brow as she crossed her arms. She darted her glare at the unfazed Butler Yi to Matthew's unchangeable visage. Their expression just irked her, really.
One was like an ice statue while the other, Butler Yi, was like his usual expression, nothing. Was she the only one frustrated about this?
"Mother, what I am saying is you should relax and shouldn't bother with this kind of menial task." In a matter-of-fact tone, Matthew clarified with a shrug as he plopped down on the long couch in the middle part of the large office.
"Menial?" Vivian repeated in a scoff. "How is the future matriarch of the Xi Family a menial task?"
"Because it's already set in stone."
Vivian knitted her brows upon hearing Matthew's answer. "Set in stone?"
"Mother, I won't date anyone you set me up with nor I have to spare my time attending them. My wife is already set in stone and I already know who it is." Matthew stared at Vivian straight in the eyes.
"That is why, I'm saving you the trouble of befriending families that only want to take advantage of our family.. I already chose my wife and have plans to propose to her."
