Zoey stared at Matthew for a few minutes before she sprung up from her seat. She took hurried steps and approached Matthew, who suddenly went silent.
"Hey, are you alright?" Zoey glided to his side and cast him a worried look. "Do you still feel unwell? I told you not to push yourself too far."
Zoey clicked her tongue in dissatisfaction laced with worry as she held onto his shoulder. Since Matthew just woke up last night after a long slumber, Zoey discerned that he needed proper rest and nutrition to get back in his good shape.
Although Matthew was asleep, it wasn't truly a rest since he couldn't eat or drink. Matthew must be pushing himself too hard to function. Little did she know, there was an entirely different reason.
"I'm fine," Still gasping for air, Matthew turned to her and offered her a reassuring smile. "It's nothing."
Matthew reached his hand over her head and patted it lightly. The pain inside his chest was gradually subsiding, but the feeling of that brief moment was still fresh in his mind and heart.
It was painful, no — too painful — for someone to bear. Matthew knew deep down that if he pushed himself and spoke the words he wanted to say, he would die. It was an instinct, and he was certain it would end him.
He couldn't describe it in words; just like what Inigo said. Matthew initially wanted to keep everything a secret from her. However, since Inigo uttered such stuff, he wanted to try. He didn't expect to experience the same thing!
"You don't look okay. You don't have to accompany me. Ivan will come around for sure." Zoey frowned as a heavy sigh slipped past her lips. Matthew's complexion turned pale, and he was sweating, it was worrying Zoey to the core.
How could she force him to accompany her in such a condition? She couldn't be selfish if it would put him at risk.
Matthew remained silent upon hearing her last remarks. Her excitement from moments ago changed into utter worry which didn't please him. Matthew managed his breathing and when the pain grew bearable, he cleared his throat.
"No, it's okay." Matthew shook his head as he stared at her straight in the eye.
"No, it's not." Zoey argued while shaking her head. "I'll drop you off and then go on my own."
"I said, I'll go."
Zoey ground her teeth in dissatisfaction as Matthew was being unreasonably stubborn. "I said I will go…"
However, the rest of her argument returned inside her mouth because Matthew suddenly leaned forward and sealed her lips with his. Zoey's eyes slowly widened as she didn't expect such a dirty move to shut her up!
"I'm okay. I can prove it to you right here and now."
Matthew slowly inched away and whispered in her ear. His sharp eyes glanced at her surprised front.
Zoey pursed her lips as she still felt the slight bite he did on her lower lip. She could hear her heart racing as she watched Matthew draw away nonchalantly.
'Prove it to me?' She subconsciously wondered and her mind immediately ran wild!
"You mean," Zoey played with her both forefinger, circling it around with each other as she bit her lower lip. "How can you prove it to me?"
Zoey asked, raising her head to him as her eyes lit up. Matthew turned his head to her direction and studied her, concealing her excitement.
'She's enjoying it,' Matthew muttered internally as Zoey's expression told him everything. She was his wife and no matter how good she was at concealing her emotions, Matthew had grown to read her, eventually.
"How?" Matthew raised his right brow as the side of his lips curled into a smirk. "You really want to know?"
He added as he slowly leaned closer. Matthew narrowed his eyes as she leaned back to keep their distance.
If this was before — before, meaning before he retrieved his memories — Matthew would think she was being shy. However, that wasn't the case. He finally understood Zoey was acting like this. She was enjoying it that she needed some space for her to recollect her thoughts before jumping at him heedlessly.
She was never shy. She was trying to restrain herself for the reason Matthew had guessed.
"I mean, of course, I don't want you to faint in the middle of the party." Zoey looked away as she cleared her throat.
In her mind, Matthew might kiss her again for a longer time. She would just pretend he was taking advantage of her. Well, kissing was an exercise! If Matthew could perform well, Zoey would believe him!
What nonsense reasoning!
Matthew narrowed his eyes and bit his lower lips to resist from laughing out loud. How could he not figure out her naughty thoughts? It was written all over her face.
"Sure," He uttered and leaned forward. Zoey swallowed a mouthful of saliva and immediately shut her eyes.
However, the soft lips that she was expecting didn't land on hers! She waited and waited, but to no avail.
Slowly, Zoey opened her eyes and saw him grinning playfully. Upon seeing his mischievous grin plastered on his face, Zoey realized he was toying with her! Her face immediately flushed in embarrassment as if he caught her red-handed without a chance to prove her nonexistent innocence!
"You should be more honest, you know." Matthew muttered with a smug grin on his lips. He had noticed how Zoey held herself back, unlike the Zoey in their previous life.
Was she afraid she would scare him off? Well, she would; though scare was not the right term, but rather put him off if he didn't regain his memories.
"I like you more like that." With those words slipping past his lips, Matthew suddenly inched closer. However, an inch before his lips could touch hers again, a sudden intruder entered the room.
"Hey sis, aren't we going to…" Ivan, who suddenly busted inside the office, widened his eyes at the scene before him.
Ivan's jaw dropped because from his position, it seemed they were already kissing and he disturbed them! However, someone as insensitive as him and shocked seeing his sister being more intimate with Matthew right before his eyes had a different take.
"Hey, why are you taking advantage of my sister?!" Ivan shouted as he rushed inside.
