Chapter 608 - Just Another Morning

PRESENT TIME

From that moment on, things escalated with the death of one of Sarah's children. And… Beth's claim of losing her child was known as a complete lie.

However, despite the Kwan's power on getting the justice for their loss, Beth's current partner -- Beth's previous obsessed lover -- had helped her get away. It was a messy outcome that even today, Zoey was shouldering the grievances of Sarah and Zach.

Zach sighed heavily. The kind Sarah he had known didn't come back after that incident. Although Sarah had poured her heart and soul in raising Zion, she would never forget the death of their child.

That was the reason why Zach had dirtied his hands on both Beth and her lover and to her child. However, the child survived like a cat with numerous lives. Zoey just wouldn't die and kept hunting him down.

Now, Zoey was living with them. With Zion's protection, Zach could only accept and keep his schemes at bay. They only had one child left, and they didn't want to lose Zion as well.

That's why Sarah had welcomed Zoey. She knew Zion was fond of Zoey. Even as a child, Zion had this strong connection and had an instinct to protect her. Why would Sarah and Zach propose to adopt Zoey if not because of Zion.?

"That woman's child… I can't help but think she's the curse that Beth left to ruin me." Zach mumbled before silence enveloped him.

The next day…

"Goodmorning~!" Early in the morning, Zoey greeted the people around the table energetically.

As soon as Zion saw her prance her way in, a gentle smile resurfaced on his lips. "Good morning, Z."

Zion greeted back. At the same time, Sarah came back while assisting Jean to serve a pot of soup. Sarah's face brightened up upon seeing Zoey.

"Oh, hey, dear! Good morning!" Sarah grinned, the side of her lips stretched from ear to ear. "Come, join us for breakfast."

Sarah gestured for Zoey to come in which the latter did. Zoey immediately perched beside Zion while Sarah took the seat across them. The head seat was still empty as Zach hadn't arrived yet.

"So, how was your sleep, my dearest Zoey?" When Sarah sat down, her eyes immediately landed on Zoey as she excitedly inquired.

"Good!" Zoey answered with a smile before turning to Zion. "Bro, do you have any activities planned for today?"

"Hmm. It's my day off today, but I still need to drop some things to the hospital. Why? Do you need my help in anything?"

"Ohhh. No." Nodding in understanding, Zoey smiled as she erased the abrupt idea she had in mind. "You should rest."

"Little Zoey is right, Zion. You should take this day and rest. You haven't been using your day offs from the past months." Sarah chimed in, frowning as she darted her gaze from Zion to Zoey as if asking the latter for help.

Zion was like Zach in terms of work. He was so dedicated to his job that even in his day offs, Zion would rush to the hospital to help if they were short handed. Sometimes, Zion wouldn't even bother considering his rest day.

Today was different. Since Zoey came back, Zion was still here having breakfast. He would usually leave before breakfast or eat on the way. Sarah was growing concerned for her son.

Thus, despite her secret grudge towards Beth's daughter, Sarah was smart to consider that Zoey could help. After all, one word from Zoey, and Zion would do anything to spoil her. Perhaps, it was that Zion didn't have a sibling that he considered Zoey as his biological sister.

"What?" Zoey pouted as she cast her eyes full of criticism to Zion's side profile.

"The hospital is always packed. Your brother needs to save lives, Z." Seeing the little upset Zoey, Zion shrugged as he patted her head.

"There there. Big brother will rest today, okay?"

Zion added as he chuckled. Just then, Zach arrived in the dining area which made Zion raise his head.

"Good morning, Dad." Zion greeted. His father's response was only a subtle smile before Zach shifted his gaze to Zoey briefly.

"So, little Zoey, do you have to work today? If not, you can accompany me, do shopping and meet your Aunt Carol." Sarah didn't bother to greet her husband as she immediately turned her attention to Zoey.

The three had started serving themselves food as Sarah inquired. Zoey glanced at her and smiled.

"I would love to, but I need to go to the office since there is an important project that needs to be done ASAP." Zoey explained with a sigh.

Sarah frowned for a second but her smile immediately returned. "That's fine. You should accompany me next time, though. I'm sure your Aunt Carol missed you. She had been asking about you."

"Of course."

"My children are all workaholics." Sarah muttered which made Zion and Zoey look at each other and chuckle.

"Well, I guess we got that from Dad." Zion humored.

Upon hearing Zion's last remarks, Zoey's smile slightly faded. Sarah's expression also changed subtly, but kept her act together. Meanwhile, Zach secretly scrutinized their expressions and noticed their changes.

The only person who found it humorous was Zion. He truly considered Zoey as his biological sister and connected their traits as an inheritance from Sarah and Zach's genes.

Soon, after that remark, Sarah successfully diverted the topic as they shared the meal. Zoey kept silent the entire time, restless as she kept turning her head around.

"What?" In the middle of the meal, Zion finally had enough of seeing Zoey's restlessness as he asked in a low tone.

"Coffee," Zoey answered in a whisper.

"You're not having coffee. Not healthy." Zion had sort of figured what she wanted. Obviously, this coffee person wanted coffee in the morning.

However, the household preferred tea. Although his mother, Sarah, was hooked to coffee in the past, she grew to love tea. Thus, Zion felt a little satisfaction that his sister wouldn't be able to drink coffee now.

"You're enjoying this, aren't you?" Zoey glared at him, seeing that he sported a mischievous smirk.

Zion leaned closer to Zoey's side and teased.. "Of course, my little sister who's addicted to coffee."
