"How was her condition?" Zayne asked as soon as the doctor tending to Sarah exited the surgery room.
"The patient's condition is now stable." The doctor said which made Zayne heave a sigh of relief.
However, Zayne's relief immediately vanished upon noticing the apologetic smile on the doctor's face. With knitted brows, he asked,
"And? How about the twins?"
Zayne asked, raising his brows as he forced a positive smile on his face. "My brother is not in the country. Please tell me the twins are also safe."
Desperation and hope laced his tone. One would mistake him as Sarah's husband by the way he cared for her children and her.
"Since they were delivered one month before her due date, they need to be incubated. Things might go south, but we'll do everything for Madam Zheng and her children to be safe."
Upon hearing the doctor's remarks, Zayne heaved another sigh of relief. For him, as long as the three were safe, it would be fine. All will be well, since Zach was in a conference abroad together with his parents.
Thus, Zach left Sarah in his care. Yet, something like this happened. Zayne wouldn't have a face to show to his mother and brother once they hear the news.
"They will be done for another week." Zayne mumbled, pacing back and forth when the doctor left.
Biting the tip of his thumb nail, Zayne hesitated whether to tell the news to Zach as he needed to focus on the conference. After all, it was another milestone for the Kwan's if they managed to do good in it.
After a long contemplation, Zayne decided to let them know once Sarah was awake. It may not be the smartest decision, but he knew Sarah wouldn't want them to come back and sacrifice the company's affairs for her.
"That's right… I'll wait until she wakes up." With that thought in mind, Zayne heaved another heavy sigh. Unbeknownst to him, his fear and worries that made him hesitate would be the beginning of a long nightmare.

Two days had gone by in a blink of an eye. Sarah had woken up a couple of times, looking for her children. However, she was still recovering from her stab wound and for delivering her twins before her due. Thus, she wasn't allowed to see them despite her desperate pleas.
"What did you say?" Zayne asked in disbelief, furrowing his brows as he grabbed the doctor's collar. "Say it again."
The doctor looked away, a conflicted look flickered across his eyes as he swallowed a mouthful of saliva. He mustered his courage and repeated the bad news he would ever relay in his entire life.
"One of the twins went missing. Our team is already looking for them. Rest assured --"
"Rest assured?" Before the doctor could utter his empty promises, Zayne scoffed as he lifted him by the collar. "One of the twins is missing. We trusted this place and yet, someone took her away? How?!"
Zayne's voice thundered. It seemed problems pile up one after another. First, Sarah was kidnapped and got stabbed by someone. Since she hadn't woken up yet with a clear head, no one knew who did this to her.
And now, one of the twins was missing?! How could that happen?
"Someone disguised herself as a nurse and managed to slip away from the security's eyes." Although it was not entirely the doctor's fault, he felt utterly ashamed of this situation.
"And you're just telling me now?!" With glinting eyes, Zayne ground his teeth as his grip on the collar tightened.
Before he could lose control, Zayne let the doctor go. He massaged his head, pacing back and forth as his entire body trembled.
Zayne had not relayed the news to his brother and mother. Yet now, there was another problem. He needed a solution.
"If the child is not found at the end of the day, I'll make sure everyone involved will lose their license and would spend their life behind bars." Firmed, Zayne warned.
"I'll contact the authorities and help you search for the missing child and the person who took her. Don't let Sarah know about this." With that being said, Zayne stomped his foot away as he executed the plan.

Night time arrived and everyone who came to search for the person who kidnapped Sarah's child hadn't been caught. During this time, there were still no CCTV's and authorities could only rely on the eye witnesses.
However, since everyone was confused as it happened so fast, they couldn't get a proper lead. Distressed, Zayne didn't know what to do. He was afraid and ashamed that this all happened with him around.
"Zayne…" Upon hearing Sarah's weak voice, Zayne snapped back to reality.
He moved his gaze towards the bed where Sarah was lying. "Don't move just yet."
Zayne rushed to her side, attempting to stop her from sitting up but to no avail. In the end, Zayne helped her instead as she leaned her back against the headboard.
He looked at her side profile; her lips were pale and her every blink was heavy. She was still high on medicine but Zayne knew why Sarah was forcing herself.
"Where are the twins?" Sarah asked with a hoarse voice. She felt a scratch on her throat upon speaking, but that didn't hinder her from asking.
"Sarah, they…" Just as Zayne spoke, he paused midway as he didn't know whether to tell her the truth or not.
He scrutinized her weak front. Sarah briefly raised her brows, hoping to hear good news. "Zayne, tell me. Are the twins fine?"
One minute had passed and only silence was the only answer Sarah received. She watched Zayne look away with guilt flickering in his eyes.
Her heart sank as her lower lips trembled. "Zayne, please… how are the twins?"
Sarah choked as her maternal instincts were telling her that something bad had happened. She grabbed Zayne's sleeves tightly, tugging him to tell her what happened. God forbid, she wouldn't forgive Beth if her twins died.
"Sarah," After a moment of silence, Zayne had decided.. "Only one made it."
