Chapter 614 - An Important Subject

"You… What are you doing here?" Angelo's voice trembled, shocked at the sight of the man he had been longing to kill.

Unlike what he had expected, Angelo's body couldn't move an inch. He held a grudge on him, yet, now that Inigo was standing before him, he couldn't move a muscle.

"He's here because it's safe that he stays close." In a matter-of-fact tone, Matthew explained as Inigo came close and plopped down on the long couch in front of him.

"Come on, man. Just admit that you don't want to go to my place because it's too small and not up to your liking." Inigo remarked sarcastically as he shook his head.

Matthew glanced at him but said nothing. He then returned his gaze back to the dumbfounded Angelo.

"Untie him." Matthew ordered as he glanced up at Carter.

Meanwhile, Angelo tried to get a good grasp on the situation. By the brief interaction between Matthew and Inigo, Angelo couldn't believe his eyes.

Matthew and Inigo seemed like they had a good relationship. From Angelo's time serving Inigo and being part of his small underground militia, Angelo could vouch that he had never seen Inigo acting this nonchalant.

Inigo may look nonchalant most of the time, however one would know that it was a mistake to be deceived by Inigo's demeanor. He may not appear like it, but this man was not someone who they could befriend or mess with.

So, what's going on? Why did Inigo act comfortable with these people around him? What was he doing here? And how did these two know each other?

A plethora of questions was raised within a short fraction of seconds. But Angelo came up with nothing. There was just nothing that connected Matthew with Inigo.

"Master, are you sure?" Carter asked, snapping Angelo back from his trance. "We don't know what he would do once he's free."

Carter added as he darted his eyes from Matthew to Inigo. The latter, however, chuckled upon hearing Carter's concerns.

"I told you, didn't I? This guy will assault me instead. If you don't believe me, let him go and see where he is going to go." Full of confidence, Inigo shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly.

"He won't kill your boss because Zia will kill him." Inigo added before he abruptly went silent. "I don't think he is afraid to die, though."

Inigo rubbed his chin lightly, recalling what kind of character Angelo was. He figured that Angelo wouldn't be afraid of being hunted down by Zoey. Thus, Inigo's face distorted as he lifted his gaze and set them to Matthew's unmoving visage.

"Or maybe, he will kill the both of us before we can negotiate." Inigo nodded as he explained another possibility regarding Angelo's actions once he was freed.

"Joker, can you not change your mind that easily? You're just rousing confusion amongst my comrades. You're not helping." Owen scoffed as he looked at Inigo's side profile in disdain.

"Well, I'm trying to be realistic here." Inigo shrugged as he held his hands up in submission.

"I won't repeat my orders." Unlike their reaction, this situation started to irk Matthew. After all, he knew what he was doing and they must know that he wanted to live the rest of his life with Zoey; not leave her again, all alone.

Upon hearing Matthew's last remarks, Carter swallowed a mouthful of saliva. With a heavy heart, Carter took a step forward and was about to untie Angelo. However, he stopped when he heard Owen's voice and his approaching footsteps.

"I'll do it. Carter, stand behind master. Protect him at all cost if our former instructor decided to go for his head." Owen instructed in one go, glancing at Carter who nodded and agreed with the plan.

"What about me? Who would protect me?" Inigo chimed in dismay as he watched Matthew's men take position as the air grew thicker.

"Protect yourself." Matthew glanced at Inigo briefly and answered with the same monotone voice.

"Ahh… I remember the good old days when the members in our family served me like a little prince I was!" Inigo exclaimed before he sighed and shook his head.

Unlike everyone, Inigo remained calm despite the fact that they were planning to free a monster who held a grudge against him. Aside from him, Matthew was the least concerned about Angelo's action once he was free.

"Freeing me is the worst mistake you'll ever do in your entire service, Wen." As Owen started cutting the rope that bound Angelo with his knife, he heard the latter speak through his gritted teeth.

Owen sensed the repressed and overflowing anger in Angelo's tone. Even Owen waned upon sensing how things would possibly turn out, but it was Matthew's orders. He only needed to trust Matthew and protect him at all cost.

After all, Angelo may be incredibly skilled; only a few of them could face him head-on and put on a good fight. However, with their numbers, Angelo was in disadvantage. Good thing it's only Angelo and not Ivan.

It would be troublesome if they had to deal with the two of them. Heck. Owen would surely disagree on letting both of them go.

"Angelo, before Owen frees you completely, I want to ask you the reason why you want to kill that man over there." While Owen was cutting the rope, taking his precious time, he stopped upon hearing Matthew's queries.

"It's none of your business. Once I get his head, I'll have yours next and send it to Zoey so she knows you betrayed her!" Through his gritted teeth, Angelo scorned with his eyes glinting with killing intent.

"I'm afraid it is still my business. Inigo is an important…" Matthew paused and glanced at Inigo's bright and carefree visage. "...subject."

"Hey! When did I become your subject?!" Inigo quickly gasped in dismay as the corner of his lips twitched.

"He is an important ally of which I don't mind whether he drops dead or not. But I won't allow that until my plans succeed. I'm telling you this because your role is just as important as him."  Once again, Matthew paused as he stared at the unwavering decision that he reads through Angelo's eyes.

"Are you willing to listen to my explanation uninjured? Or do you prefer listening while being tied down to a casket?" Matthew rested his jaw by the back of his hand as he shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly.
