Meanwhile…
"Hey," Zoey called out, turning her head to the driver's seat as she was on the front passenger seat.
Matthew had insisted on dropping her off at the Z Image office. However, Zoey refused him as she knew about his tight schedule. Paul would surely become a queen dowager interfering with their relationship if Matthew moved his schedule again.
Hence, Matthew only stopped nagging when he told her to let Kenneth drop her off. She agreed, although Kenneth had been acting strange lately.
Receiving no response from Kenneth, Zoey smacked her lips together. She rested her back against the leather seat, feeling bored with her company.
"You are strangely silent. Was the hangover too much?" Zoey spoke after a while, turning her head to Kenneth again. "We can stop by the pharmacy."
Out of the goodness of her heart, Zoey offered. Just last night, Kenneth was a hyper lad. Now, he was grumpy.
Even in their previous life, Kenneth was never this grumpy. But somehow, he had changed a little bit. Not that Zoey was scared of change.
It was just that it gave her quite an anxiety. After all, Enzo's drastic change in her previous life was quite surprising.
"Hey, did something…"
"Can you shut up?" Before Zoey could finish her sentence, Kenneth finally broke his silence.
"Huh?" Surprised at his sudden coldness, Zoey furrowed her brows.
"I'm dropping you off. Sleep or do whatever. Just don't talk to me." Kenneth coldly said, making Zoey even more curious about what she had done to him.
"Uh… why not?" Puzzled, she asked.
Zoey couldn't remember anything she had done to offend him. Well, there were a few instances. But, Zoey didn't think that would anger him to the point that he didn't want to talk to her.
"You and my brother seemed like bestfriends last night. Why wouldn't you want to talk to your best friend's sister?"
Kenneth's lips parted, but no words came out as he pressed them together once again. He didn't speak, keeping his thoughts to himself.
Well, he liked Zoey: be it a crush or more than that -- Kenneth had developed feelings for this girl. He knew he shouldn't, but the more he tried to forget about her, that desire grew stronger.
It was wrong. Zoey was Matthew's lover. Matthew was his childhood buddy. Yet, Matthew insisted on asking this favor from him.
Kenneth didn't want to think that Matthew had purposely done it. Knowing Matthew, it was more rational that he asked this favor from Kenneth because he trusted him for Zoey's safety.
Still, being alone with Zoey was harder than he thought. Kenneth was not good at keeping his feelings a secret. He might unnecessarily confess his feelings to her if she kept prying.
"Damn… what's wrong with you?" Zoey mumbled with a frown. "Did my darling's cousin reject your feelings or what?"
As soon as Zoey spouted those words, Kenneth accidentally stepped on the brake. The tires screeched. Fortunately, their speed was not fast and only did little impact.
"What did you say?" Aghast, Kenneth shot Zoey a look for the first time during this entire trip.
"Uh…" Zoey cleared her throat as she fixed her sitting posture. "I mean, Ruby, Matty's cousin. You've liked her for a long time, right?"
"How did…" Kenneth trailed off.
Ruby Xi, Matthew's cousin, was Kenneth's first love. Since Kenneth and Matthew were childhood friends, he developed feelings for the pretty and independent Ruby Xi.
Kenneth, as a straightforward person, had already confessed his feelings to her. They secretly dated for two months -- only Matthew, Enzo, and Lucas knew about it -- but Ruby and Kenneth mutually agreed that it was not the right time for them.
They were friends, though. Although Ruby always bore a special place in his heart, everything had changed when Zoey came into the picture. If only Zoey didn't come into his life like a hurricane and messed things around for him.
"Well," Zoey pursed her lips innocently. "Matty told me."
In the end, she blamed Matthew. But in all honesty, Kenneth never told her even in the previous life. She only noticed it in the way Kenneth looked at Ruby.
Zoey actually advised Kenneth to propose to Ruby before she went off to die. Hence, she didn't know what had happened to them after that. It was a shame that Zoey didn't get to see their happy ending.
"No," Kenneth shook his head along with his heavy breath. "If brother Matt told you about it, you should've known that our break up is a mutual agreement."
Upon hearing Kenneth's remarks, Zoey bit her tongue. 'Sh*t! Why am I blindly guessing?!'
"How did you know?" Kenneth narrowed his eyes.
"Uh," Zoey nearly choked. How come she dug her own grave? How was she supposed to answer him?
'Think, Zoey. Think!' She encouraged internally, thinking of a believable excuse to make.
*Honk* *Honk*
Suddenly, a honk from behind them snapped them back. Zoey turned around instinctively before casting Kenneth a look.
"You should keep moving. I'm late." Zoey cleared her throat as she secretly heaved a sigh of relief.
Kenneth stared at her momentarily before resuming on driving. They rode in silence. This time, Zoey really didn't speak.
She should've listened to him. She shouldn't talk too much. If not for that urgent honk from behind them, Zoey would surely have to give him a lame excuse.
'I shouldn't have changed things too much in this lifetime. Now, I feel like I'm groping in the dark.' Zoey mumbled internally, letting out a sigh as she shook her head.
From Cora to Ivan, Zion and everything else. It felt as if Zoey was living in a different lifetime now. Everything was just moving in a different path than the original.
Even Matthew… Thinking about all this made Zoey sigh once again.
"Ruby and I are friends." Amidst their silence, Kenneth spoke.
Slowly, Zoey raised her head, her brows furrowed, looking at his side profile. Kenneth kept his eyes on the road.
"I like someone else. If you are so interested in someone else's love life, you'll have to open your eyes and use your head to understand that." He said.
Zoey frowned as it sounded as if he was indirectly dissing her. Still, she didn't overlook his first sentence.
"You like someone?" She asked, a bit surprised as she wondered who it could be.
There was a long silence between them. Kenneth didn't leave his gaze from the road. When he opened his mouth, Zoey's mental state went blank.
"You."
