"How can you forget? We promised, didn't we? That we will get married and you will be by my side forever."
Devon's heart sank upon recalling that memory from the deepest part of her consciousness. So in the end, it was her fault? For adoring her big brother as a child, it led to this crazy obsession?
"I tried, sister. I tried to support it when Father planned to marry you off to that bastard Duke, but I can't. Just the thought of him having you whenever he pleases makes my blood boil." Julian's eyes glinted with malice, and seeing her in tears, just fueled his anger. "I just saved you, sister. But why can't you understand that?"
"It's really isn't hard to understand that, right? That I locked you up so I can protect you from everyone," he added under his breath as if desperate to be heard. "But that guy... that damn Arthur fed you with lies and tried to steal you from me. So I lost my cool."
"No... Ken..." she hiccuped in between her cries, shaking her head under his grip.
"You don't know him, Kasdeya. Arthur is a terrible man, and I just taught him a lesson."
Her hiccups grew louder the more he spoke. His words felt nauseating, only proving how sick he was in the head.
"Everything I did is for you, Kasdeya. I did everything... EVERYTHING, because you are my precious sister." He breathed out, leaning closer to her, and whispered. "I. love. you. But you're really driving me insane."
"N...o..." her sobs shook, feeling helpless having to listen to all this madness.
"Why are you crying? I am not asking for too much, am I? I just want your heart and have me in it. What's so hard about that?" Julian inquired in disbelief, seeing her cry while shaking her head. Even without words, he knew she was still persistently rejecting him.
"You will regret refusing my sincerity, Kasdeya." His tone dropped, sending chills down her spine. Even her breathing hitched as his expression died down.
"I will destroy you. I promise you that."
Before Devon could react, Julian grabbed her bicep and dragged her. Devon naturally fought him whilst yelling to stop, but he didn't use the slightest hesitation while dragging her. He held onto her, not caring if her shoulder would come off or not.
"Ken! Stop it!" she struggled, her voice echoing across the empty fire exit. She tried clinging on to the railing, but before she could secure her grip, he would pull her with him. Because of that, Devon hit her arms and fingers against the metal and concrete. So, her attempts to cling on to the railings were just futile attempts.
"No! No more!"
Since clinging on to the metal railings was hopeless with her fractured fingers, Devon punched, slapped, kicked him. It hurt. Hitting him strained her fingers and arms, but she had grown numb by the pain at this point. She didn't want to go. Hell awaited her if they left this place.
She could already imagine every worse thing he would do to her. Thinking about it fueled her desire to escape him. But how? Julian was akin to a wall. Even when she scratched him and left his jaw and neck bleeding, he didn't budge.
Helpless by her situation, Devon's punches grew weaker. "Let me go..." she sobbed, still putting her weight on her feet.
"Lu..."
She kept calling Lewis's name out of desperation. Julian stopped in his tracks and slowly looked back at her as soon as they reached the underground parking space. She hiccuped, tears and sweat both rolled down her neck.
"Lu..."
Julian stretched his neck in a circular motion while hissing. "Stop calling his name, will you?" he warned, as his eyes darkened with murderous intent.
"He might get away from this if you play it nicely."
Devon pressed her lips together to muffle her cry. Her body ached all over and she was very exhausted from all that screaming, crying, and resisting. Her mind couldn't take all this overwhelming stress and fear condensed into one.
"Good." He nodded before dragging her once again back to his car. As soon as they reached the black sedan, Julian pushed her to the front passenger seat. Devon let out a coarse, "ah!" as she used her arms when she crashed against the car's door.
This was the first time he let her go, but her body was trembling uncontrollably. Devon glanced around, only to hear him cocking the gun. When she gazed back at him, Julian was already pointing the pistol at her.
"Go inside. We had already reached this far, Kasdeya. Just be a good girl." Julian waved the gun, motioning her to enter the car.
"Ken," came out a weak, shaking voice, but he was unfazed.
"Go now while I'm asking nicely."
Devon bit her lower lip, thinking of ways how to stall some time. She was thinking of running away, but he would shoot her for sure. Also, how could she run if her entire body was shaking wildly? She reached for the door and opened it, but just as she heard the click, Devon felt a pain on the side of her neck.
Her mind instantly buzzed while her vision momentarily zoomed in and out as it blurred. She managed to look back, only to see Julian standing behind her... and then it was just darkness.
Before she could fall, Julian snaked his arm around her waist and caught her. His other hand that was holding the pistol assisted the back of her head. Julian carefully leaned closer to the car, putting the gun down over the car's roof, and then assisted her in.
"Ahh... really... why are you always so stubborn?" he muttered as he lifted her legs inside the car. Julian swiftly buckled her up and then reclined the front passenger seat a little.
A sharp exhale slipped past his lips when he was done. Looking at her pale face, Julian brushed the stray hairs away from her face.
"God..." his eyes dropped with bitterness and angst. "I will kill you, Kas. It's all your fault... why I am like this. You're the reason I can't recognize myself anymore. You bring out the worst in me... but I love you, sister. You are mine."
Julian leaned forward and planted a long peck on her sweating forehead. He kissed her for a long time before drawing away. As he drew his head back, the emotions in his eyes disappeared. He slid the gun away and shut the door, jogging around the car and entering the driver's seat.
"Let's just all die, shall we?" he cocked his head to the unconscious Devon and let out a ridiculing chuckle. "Bitch. If only you are a bit more grateful, it will not turn out like this."
*******
Back in the establishment, Lewis couldn't react quickly when Julian dragged Devon with him. He wanted to go after them, but then again, he was carrying the man who took a shot for him. Dion had also frozen, as he could still hear a flatline in his ears. They only snapped back to the current lapse when they heard a woman's scream.
"Brother!"
Gabriella's eyes dilated, darting it from the blood on the floor and Quentin's head that was hanging down over Lewis. She didn't even think of how dangerous the situation she was stepping into with her brother was in her mind. She didn't know what happened, but seeing blood and that gunshot she heard, her heart thumped louder every passing second.
"Brot --" her breath hitched, and she paled as soon as she stood beside Lewis, eyes on her brother's back. Blood had already colored his entire shirt despite the hand pressing against it.
"Dev..." Quentin gasped for air while weakly looking up at Lewis. "De...von..."
This time, Lewis finally snapped out of his shock as he turned his head to Dion. "Dion! call an ambulance and police. We can't let them get away."
"Uh — Yes!" Dion panicked as his hands trembled trying to find his phone. He couldn't think as his mind was still blank, but he knew they needed help this instant.
While Dion called for help, Lewis carefully put down Quentin on the floor. His hand remained on his back, trying to stop the bleeding. Gabriella also slumped on her knees, staring at her brother blankly.
"What..."
"You!" Lewis's voice thundered, and their eyes met. "Pressed his wounds like this if you don't want him to bleed out."
"Huh?"
"Now!" he didn't care how shocked she was as the priority was Quentin. Gabriella didn't understand but still followed his instruction.
"Brother..." her instinct told her not to cry and put as much pressure on his gunshot wounds. But tears still rolled down her cheek from the shock, confusion, and everything. How come her brother was now bleeding to death?
Lewis gazed at them and let out a shallow breath. He didn't have the luxury to explain it to his sister, because Julian still had Devon.
"Damn..." came out a deep curse as he fished out his phone, speed-dialing Derek. By now, he could follow Julian to the fire exit, but that was stupid. Julian had a gun and chasing after them lowered the chances of retrieving her.
"Derek, come on..."

Meanwhile, in the old Qin residence, Derek was on his way to the car when his phone rang. His brows rose, fishing his phone out only to see Lewis' name on it. Normally, Derek would immediately answer the call, but he just stared at it for a moment.
His thumb hovered over the red button, but a sigh slipped past his lips. In the end, Derek pressed the green button and placed the phone in front of his ear.
"Yes, young master?"
"Send men in here in five minutes and surround this building. Don't let a single soul leave this place." Lewis immediately ordered with a stern and panicking voice. "Uh.. huh... I will kill him for sure."
"Alright. Please calm down, Young Master." Derek's eyes glinted and didn't wait for Lewis to respond as he ended the line. He looked at his phone once again before shaking his head, dialing people to execute the order.
"That second young master... what a piece of work...."
