Chapter 53 - Dion Qin

And so Ghost Lin and Devon agreed to meet up after a week once Lewis returned to his work. For now, Ghost Lin would wander around and would come to check on her from time to time.

"Are you really going?" Devon asked as she watched Ghost Lin do a sprinting starting stance. "Where?"

Ghost Lin raised her head and looked ahead. "Alaska."

"Alaska…?" Question marks hovered over Devon's head, but Ghost Lin didn't explain where that was.

"Don't worry, I'll come when you're in trouble. For now, you're good as you are."

"You think so?"

"No." Ghost Lin sped away without another word, rendering Devon speechless by her last answer.

Devon looked at the window Ghost Lin passed through like a bolt of lightning. A subtle smile appeared on her face, recalling their brief discussion.

"It seems she's not that terrible," she whispered, as she had observed Ghost Lin despite that the latter was giving her a scare of spewing vulgarities.

Since people bearing ulterior motives surrounded Devon in the past, she could tell Ghost Lin was not one of them. Unlike Lewis, who was 'kind and pure', Ghost Lin was just a complicated individual.

Overall, both were genuine, and it gave Devon relief.

"I hope we can become friends too," Devon murmured with a smile before turning her head towards the door when Lewis knocked.

"You're awake?" he asked. "Come out and have breakfast after you wash up. We're going somewhere."

"Yes!" Devon smiled brightly, having all the energy to do everything with a clear conscience.

Lewis furrowed his brows as it seemed Devon was especially hyper today. But he didn't point that out, as he just nodded before closing the door.

As he did, he sent a message to Derek. It says,

[ To: Assistant Wang

Is it a good idea to invite Dion over? ]

[ From: Assistant Wang

No. ]

Lewis narrowed his eyes and nodded. "That's right. I should just meet him in a cafe, or else, he'll bother her."

****

"My friend, who are we waiting for here?" Devon asked before leaning down to sip from the straw of her milk tea. "This is sweet!" she exclaimed as she moved her eyes around the little few customers of the cafe.

"My brother." Devon nearly choked as she coughed, pounding her fist against her chest.

"Your brother?!"

Lewis leaned back, crossing his arm with his leg resting over the other. If he had a choice, he wouldn't bother to contact his brother, but he needed his help for something very important.

"Yes, my little brother." Lewis nodded as his brow quirked. "The tiny man you talked and listen to."

Her lips formed in a shape of the letter O, nodding ever so slowly. The tiny man, who was not really tiny, but Lewis' little brother. Devon's mind wondered what kind of brother did Lewis had?

Reliable? Kind and mature like him? Good-looking? Devon bobbed her face as she inspected him and imagined what would Lewis's brother looked like. In her mind, she constructed a face based on Lewis' face and thought of a younger version of him.

Her anticipation of meeting his brother increased until the sound of chimes when someone came in reached their ear. Devon instinctively glanced at the entrance, narrowing her eyes at the blinding light of the man wearing flashy colors.

'He hurts my eyes,' she commented internally. 'How can a man wear such flashy colors?'

Although the man didn't look bad in that style as it somewhat suits his stature, it was too bright for the onlookers. No wonder he was wearing sunglasses himself. Not very considerate, if Devon was asked.

Devon looked away to protect her eyes. 'I wonder what kind of person is my friend's brother.' She nearly jumped when she heard the newcomer exclaimed, "Brother!"

She slowly raised her head and saw the flashy colors approach them happily. The disappointment on her face resurfaced.

'It's him?' she wondered, scanning the man from head to toe, shaking her head as he was not what she imagined. 'Very well. I shouldn't judge people based on their appearance anymore. Perhaps, his personality is…'

Her disappointments increased when Dion suddenly plopped down to the vacant chair around their table and sported a pitiful look. He might not be on his knees, but his expression was akin to a person begging for mercy.

"Brother, please forgive me just this once! I've reflected on my actions!"

Lewis kept his unaffected front. He didn't even glance at his brother, pondering whether he had made a terrible decision.

"Brother, please, just this once, I will…" Dion trailed off as he finally realized there was another person with them. His eyes went wide, blinking as his mind buzzed.

Why make such an expression? Lewis thought as he introduced them to each other.

"This is Miss Lin Devon, a friend of mine who helps me in some things. Miss Lin, this is my little brother, Qin Dion. He…" Lewis couldn't finish the introduction as Dion suddenly grabbed Devon's hands. His eyes sparkling as the corner of his lips stretched from ear to ear.

"Sister!" Dion exclaimed in excitement, almost shedding a tear. Devon almost slapped his hand as his sudden touch took her by surprise.

'Insolent!' Devon's mind yelled angrily, but held back upon recalling this was another world. She was no longer the princess and subtle touches were normal.

"Sister, I'm so happy to —"

"Let go." Dion froze when he felt the drop in temperature along with the cold command of Lewis. So he let Devon go discreetly, nearly fusing with the chair as he drew back.

Dion then bowed his head and said politely, "I'm sorry for being rude, dear sister-in-law." He winced, thinking he addressed her incorrectly, and glanced at Lewis, but the latter didn't seem displeased. "I'm Qin Dion, I'm happy to meet you."

Devon glanced at Lewis and offered a subtle smile, knowing Lewis noticed her discomfort. He's such a considerate man, she thought, thinking that was the only reason Lewis asked Dion to let her hand go.

"Please, raise your head." Devon commanded only to realize she still had that habit, so she said, "I'm honored to meet you, my friend's little brother."

'My… friend?' Dion's nose scrunched up as he glanced at Lewis, who averted his gaze from him.
