In the end, Devon just sobbed her heart out until her eyes swelled and she fell asleep.
"She cried to the point I'm a little embarrassed." Lewis chuckled helplessly, lying to his side as she ended up using his arm as a cushion.
No one had cried for him like that. So it felt strangely nice, considering he told her about something that triggered him.
"Thank you, Miss…" He trailed off as he let out a bitter sigh.
Now that he thought about it, Lewis and Devon didn't even reach the first name basis. Even now, she called him 'my friend', while he still called her 'Miss Lin' and it just sounded wrong and distant.
Lewis chuckled in a low tone, wiping the drop of tear that was on the corner of her eyes. "I think I figure out my crisis," he paused as he had been thinking about it.
"It is, I don't think I can ever marry someone else, or I'm still at the point of I can turn back and return." That's right, and he only realized that now.
From the time he signed a contract with Devon, he knew that this path he would take was akin to a one-way tunnel. There was no return or a ticket way out.
That was why he just stood in the entrance of that tunnel, staying passive and never took a step forward. But after Devon's accident, it was as if a hand grabbed him and dragged him deeper into that tunnel.
And together, they ran in the dark.
"Forgive me if things change from now on," He whispered, pulling his arms away from her as he didn't want to look like he said all that for some cuddling.
But before he could, Devon clasped his chest as she squeezed herself into him while sleeping. "My friend," she whispered before dozing off.
"My friend," He repeated under his breath, keeping still. "I think I know where to start."
And Lewis closed his eyes to get some sleep, and he didn't have that nightmare with her in his embrace.
As they slept, Devon the Spirit was standing on them with her hands planted on her hip.
"I thought he finally lost his mind when I heard her crying." She muttered with a gloomy frown. Well, the Princess sounded like she was in pain or some sort, that's why the Spirit rushed back.
"Good thing he didn't say that when I'm in that body," she said, shaking her head while clicking her tongue. "He'll just get more depressed if I asked the details of how that metal bar was plunged in his mother's neck."
Well, not that she would really ask that. It was just that the Spirit, the real Devon, didn't have the empathy like the Princess.
"I'd probably say, we all have our own shit and he just needs to get over with it. Why drag me in it and share the burden?" She muttered before she crouched down, darting her eyes from Devon to Lewis.
"Hmmm," she hummed, rubbing her chin as she narrowed her eyes. "That's it. I'll put the matters in my hand."
A smug grin turned up on her lips as she stared at Devon. "I think I'm having some inspiration about this. Wild Young Princess… that will be the title."

Devon woke up the next day, finding Lewis missing on the bed.
'Ugh… I cried so much I fell asleep, how embarrassing.' She grumbled internally as she assisted herself up to sit. 'Now, I can barely open my eyes.'
"Good morning, Lin Devon!" Devon jumped, startled out of her wits, before gazing at the Spirit on the ceiling.
The Spirit slowly descended while saying, "Ghost Lin is here to your rescue. So, you better bow down and kiss the ring." Crouching in front of Devon while showing the back of her hand to her.
"Ghost Lin?" Devon tilted her head to the side, ignoring the hand in front of her.
"Yes." Ghost Lin replied, and she patted her chest, before adding, "I can't be called the Spirit all the time, right?"
"Oh." Devon nodded in understanding and she jumped when Ghost Lin clapped in front of her.
"Don't drink too much coffee, you're a little jumpy. Anyway, since Mister Qin is busy preparing breakfast. Let's talk."
"Alright," Devon nodded again as she gulped and opened her lips, but before she could ask the questions in her head, Ghost Lin spoke.
"Drop by in the Lin Family residence."
"Pardon?"
"That family which is now yours, pay them a visit," Ghost Lin said, "Let's give them a scare."
For a moment, Devon's mind buzzed. She just woke up and Ghost Lin was already spewing things.
"I'm, I'm sorry, but may I ask the reason?" Devon inquired. "I read your notes. I know it's obstruction of your property, but it doesn't seem you have a good relationship with them."
"That's why I'm saying you need to give them a scare." Ghost Lin blinked, unaffected by Devon's puzzlement. "It seems that they will contact you soon. Show up before they do."
"…"
"I'm saying," Ghost Lin leaned forward with her eyes glinting with murderous intent. "You need to put them in their place. Do that and I won't do anything to get back in my body."
Devon gulped down as a chill ran down her spine. "Did… did something happen?"
"Nothing yet." Ghost Lin drew back before collapsing on her back, her arms, and feet spread across the bed.
"I just thought I don't need them in Wild Young Princess." Ghost Lin mumbled to herself. "Or else, the genre will not be romance. It'll be a crime."
"Why do you hate them so much?" Devon inquired as she watched Ghost Lin occupy the bed. "Also, do you, perhaps, have any idea how to make my friend feel better?"
Ghost Lin cocked her head and gaze at her. "Of course!"
"Will you tell me?" Devon's eyes immediately glittered with excitement.
"Kiss him and he'll be happy."
The expression on Devon's face immediately died down, as she truly thought Ghost Lin would be helpful. Well, Ghost Lin was helpful. If only Devon knew that.
"Miss Lin."
"Ghost Lin," Ghost Lin corrected. "Call me by my pen name."
"Alright, Ghost Lin." Devon nodded in understanding. "It's rude of me to refuse your request. To be frank, I wanted to talk to you since I want to help you as well."
"Help me?" Ghost Lin got back up with furrowed brows.
Devon smiled brightly as she faced her squarely. "You said you wished to do something while in this body, correct? If you let me and you don't mind, I want to do it if it's within my human morals."
"Wow… how did you find out some of my wishes are beyond human morals?" Ghost Lin frowned as half of her wishes were too extreme for her.
