Chapter 65 - I'll Tear Him Apart

Meanwhile, Derek glanced at the rear mirror to check Lewis on the rear seat. Derek expected that Lewis would be a little different from usual with that memory of Lewis and Devon playing on the see-saw.

But what was this? It seemed nothing changed. Lewis was just silent, staring outside the window as if contemplating which devil should possess his body today. Derek's brows quirked when Lewis spoke.

"Quentin." His tone was cold, almost like a block of ice fresh from the fridge. "Derek, about Miss Lin, find out if she had an acquaintance named Quentin and run a background check on that person."

Lewis couldn't forget about that name. The way she trembled under his grip, and how terrified she sounded when she spoke those ambiguous words etched deep in his mind. Lewis didn't let her notice how bothered he was, and how his blood boils with his imagination running wild.

"Yes, young master," Derek answered in the same stoic tone.

"I want it as detailed as possible," Lewis added, making Derek furrow his brows.

All background checks they had done in the past were already detailed that they even uncovered the dirtiest secret of some powerful individuals. But for Lewis to specify to make it more detailed, it piqued Derek's curiosity.

"Young master, is there something wrong?" asked Derek out of curiosity and concern. "Is he one of those who is testing your patience?"

"No," Lewis answered as his eyes glinted, tapping his fingers against the armrest console. "But his very existence alone burns my patience. I'll tear him apart."

Derek glanced at the driver, noticing how the driver tightened his grip around the steering wheel. He sighed, shaking his head. Whoever that Quentin was, he just caught someone's attention, which he shouldn't.

Although many — men and women — wanted to catch Lewis' interest, it was silly to assume having his interest was always good. After all, Lewis was not the kindest person to meet. He was the type of person who forgets nothing, be it kindness shown to him… or a grudge.

"Please don't taint your hands, young master," Derek advised, used at Lewis' aggressiveness in private. He added, "Let someone else do it instead."

"Then hire someone to do it, I'll watch."

"I'm afraid I can't, sir," Derek replied calmly as this wasn't the first time he had to deal with Lewis' impulse orders. "It'll compromise your position and is morally wrong."

Lewis frowned. He knew that, obviously. He just had to say it to release the slightest frustration building up inside him.

"Why do you always give me advice and then counter it?" Lewis muttered in disinterest.

Derek smiled as he rested his back against the front seat. "As your assistant, I had to give you the most efficient advice, but as your friend, I had to remind you not to get blinded by power."

Lewis didn't reply anymore and only let out a sigh. If not for Derek, Lewis wouldn't be a law-abiding citizen as he was now. It wouldn't even surprise Lewis if he got himself involved in illegal dealings, as he was an aggressive person. That was why he trusted Derek more than he could trust himself.

"What a reliable assistant and good friend you are," Lewis muttered, and he frowned, as it seemed the man named Quentin had to get another day to live. "By the way, you didn't cancel all the blind dates my grandfather set up?"

"You will have dinner with the heiress of HN Group."

"Dinner?" Lewis's frown grew more sullen.

"HN Group is not as great as the Qin Empire, but it has a good and clean reputation. Their charitable projects had earned a lot of respect, so having them as the Qin's in-laws will still benefit the Qin Family image." As usual, Derek voiced out his opinion as if he didn't have an idea that Lewis didn't have the slightest interest.

"I see. Notify her to join me for lunch instead."

Derek smiled and nodded, even though Lewis wasn't looking in his direction. "Yes, sir."

Lewis couldn't cancel these blind dates as he brought it upon himself. So, he still had to attend to them; the biggest impulse decision he had made in his life. He was so confused with his heart that he didn't think twice and asked his grandfather to set him up on a blind date. Now, he had to pay for it.

"I want to go home already," he muttered, missing her already.

Derek only smiled but said nothing as they headed towards the Qin Empire's main building in silence.

"I happen to know someone named Quentin and he… he is my ex."

Ghost Lin awkwardly scratched her cheek with a finger as she discreetly glanced at Devon. The latter had this mix of shock and confusion written all over her face.

"Ex means former lover," Ghost Lin clarified, rolling her eyes as she felt a slight chill crawl up her spine.

This may not be the case, and it could just be a coincidence that those two only share the same name. However, it was better to be cautious, considering the awful experience of Devon in her previous life.

Devon opened and closed her mouth. "Former… you… and…" she trailed off, clutching her bicep tightly.

Fear slowly crept up in her heart, slowly devouring her bit by bit, and she could only stare at Ghost Lin. She couldn't bring herself to ask if Quentin was here as well. Just the thought of it… Devon couldn't breathe.

"Hey," Ghost Lin went closer worriedly. "It's not yet sure, alright? I'm just saying in advance just in case?"

"No," Devon whispered, almost choking, as her heart had been pounding against her chest until she was hyperventilating. "No, that… it can't be…"

Ghost Lin ground her teeth as Devon's reaction was worse than the first. She should've been more cautious, but she was so shocked as she hadn't heard that name for a long time.. Now Ghost Lin could only grit her teeth, as she couldn't slap her to her senses.
