Chapter 66 - Enjoy Your Lunch!

Ghost Lin bit her lower lip as she clenched her hand into a fist. Devon was still shaking, breaking out into sweats, and her complexion grew pale, and Ghost Lin knew it was her fault for being insensitive.

Since Ghost Lin never cared if her words would hurt anyone, she didn't take Devon's words just moments ago to her heart. But seeing her own face have that terrified expression, something in Ghost Lin's heart pricked her conscience.

She was not the person who would make that expression. No matter how lonely and scared she was, Ghost Lin always kept her strong facade as her defense mechanism. Perhaps seeing Devon express her fears with the same face made Ghost Lin see what her true self appeared inside: weak, terrified, desperate.

Ghost Lin's trembling lips parted. "1 am, eyes closed, I'm slowly falling… Now and then, I feel lights fading softly. All over me and I remember last year." It had been a very long time since Ghost Lin sang from her heart, but since she couldn't touch her, she thought singing for her would reach her inside.

"When I was alone in my bed, unhappy thoughts in my head, and living silently inside…" Her brows raised a little when Devon slowly raised her head. "... just keeping all to myself. Wished I could be somewhere else, back when I could only hide.

"It's so late in the night, my mind is drifting away.

Then I dream about times I wished for a new, happier day

If a hand could reach out right now and save my life somehow

I'll face the sun again…" Ghost Lin placed her hand atop Devon's, attempting to smile brightly, but ended up looking a little complicated.

"You… sing well," Devon muttered as her shaking gradually stopped and her heart was soothed.

Ghost Lin smacked her lips. "I told you, I'm perfect." Her remarks made Devon giggle weakly, but seeing that singing for her worked, Ghost Lin heaved a sigh of relief.

"My apologies for showing you that disgraceful state of me." Devon hung her head low, a little embarrassed that she couldn't control her emotions. She was pitiful, she thought.

"Why are you the one apologizing? It should be me who should apologize for saying all that crap." Ghost Lin frowned, clicking her tongue lightly. "I'm sorry, this time, I am really sorry."

Devon smiled weakly. Her eyes softened as soon as her gaze landed on Ghost Lin's figure.

"Thank you," Devon said, gazing down at Ghost Lin's hand that was holding hers. "I can't feel your touch, but it's… frustratingly warm."

"What do you mean frustratingly warm?" Ghost Lin frowned as she tried to grab her hand, but to no avail. "Enjoy this, you. I'm a seasonal person, my kindness will expire soon."

"Mhmm," Devon hummed and nodded. She already thought Ghost Lin would return to her usual self when she calmed down completely, but that didn't matter. For her, Ghost Lin might be a little frustrating sometimes, but she knew how to acknowledge her mistakes.

Suddenly, Ghost Lin spoke after a long silence. "Devon."

"Yes?"

Ghost Lin pursed her lips in a thin line and just stared at her. Tilting her head, Devon furrowed my brows, a little puzzled.

"What is it?" Devon asked, raising her brows.

"Make a lot of good memories. So when you look back, you can only see happy memories, you hear me?" Ghost Lin's tone was stern, but her eyes were soft. "That's my first request from you; live this life just for yourself. I don't know how long it will take until you have good memories, enough for you to forget those awful ones, but just go all out. Do you understand?"

Devon bit her lower lip as hard as she could, holding back the tears that were tempting to roll from her eyes. Although Lewis had been a great help to her, Ghost Lin's words just give her a different comfort. Maybe because it's her body? Or it sounded that those words were rare from Ghost Lin? Devon had no idea. Either way, Devon felt relieved to meet this peculiar ghost.

(A/N: Ghost Lin is the real ML)

"Yes." came the tiny and muffled response from Devon. "I will live… just for myself from now on." She would definitely take that advice from today onwards.

With Lewis, with Ghost Lin, Devon would make a lot of good memories until there's no room for those awful memories of the past. She never felt so thankful. It's only been a week since Devon woke up in this body, but her time spent here felt more notable than her entire life in her previous life.

"Good. Now, send Working Qin a message!" Pleased, Ghost Lin clapped her hands and diverted the subject. When she saw Devon's clueless front, Ghost Lin clicked her tongue in disappointment.

"Get your phone and send him a message! Your friend just went into war and you're not sending him a word?"

"He went into war?"

"I hope that little head of yours is not thinking of an actual war." Ghost Lin frowned as Devon's expression instantly told her she thought it was an actual war. "Just message him and tell him to enjoy his lunch!"

"Oh, but it's still too early…" Devon trailed off when she heard a knock from outside the door before it slowly creaked open.

Agnes peeked her head in a little and said, "Miss Lin, breakfast is ready. Do you want to eat inside the bedroom?"

"It is alright. I will dine in the dining." Devon smiled, and Agnes nodded before she carefully closed the door.

At noon…

Lewis stared at the beautiful young woman sitting across from him. His blind date didn't look bad. In fact, she was beautiful and graceful. Her elegance seemed to drip down from her fingertips as she sliced through the steak. A total catch! Alas…

'I wonder what she is doing?' he wondered, his mind drifting somewhere else.

"Mister Qin," she said, smiling and blushing as he never took his eyes off her. Lewis snapped his eyes and saw her tuck her hair behind her ear.

'Should I buy her a hair clip?' A slight smile turned up on his lips at the idea. Devon wearing a hair clip handpicked by him? Not a bad idea.

Lewis knew that his date was interested in him, it was obvious, but he couldn't care less. He just needed to last for at least thirty minutes before he could politely excuse himself. But just then, his phone vibrated. Since there were only important people who could reach his phone, Lewis had to check it.

"Excuse me," Lewis said, shoving his hand inside his pocket to see who it was. The second he saw her name, he unhesitatingly opened her message, which brought a sudden sense of dread to his spine.
