Chapter 79 - I Want To Live!

"No," Ghost Lin answered nonchalantly, staring at the curious Devon before she added, "Derek and I are secret lovers."

Devon gasped. Her complexion paled as she reviewed all her actions towards Lewis in front of Derek. Was Devon, all this time, cheating in front of Ghost Lin's lover?! Although Devon didn't have any emotional attachment to Derek, this body was Ghost Lin's!

"You..." Devon's breath hitched as she slowly covered her mouth with her palm.

Ghost Lin stared at her before the corner of her lips curled up. "I'm kidding." She chuckled, pleased at Devon's shocked reaction. "Did you really believe I have the energy to be in a relationship?"

"Why would you jest about that! I thought it was real!" Devon complained, trying to slap her shoulder, but her hand just went through.

"Haha! I'm sorry!" Ghost Lin giggled, raising both her hands up. "But I visited him last night since I was just curious what he does whenever he's not around, Boss Qin."

"Why would you do that? Do you like Assistant Wang?" Devon gasped, casting Ghost Lin a look as if she was staring at a pervert.

Ghost Lin rolled her eyes. "I said I was curious, okay? Diligent Wang always looks strict. He always makes me wonder if he ever smiles. I was curious if he had weird habits behind that stoic front," she explained, shrugging, as it was actually out of plain curiosity.

"You're a pervert." Devon's nose scrunched up as she moved away. Even if she was curious, Devon wouldn't do that.

"I'm a ghost, so I might take advantage of not being seen."

Devon shook her head, as she wouldn't win against Ghost Lin. "So, what did you find out? Were you satisfied peeping at other people's personal lives?"

"Hmm. He had a soft side of him and he's a cat person." Ghost Lin hummed as she recalled her time in Derek's place. "There's nothing special. It'll be nice if he had some weird habits so you can use it against him if the situation calls for it."

"Of all people," Devon let out a deep sigh, as she couldn't understand what was going on in Ghost Lin's mind. "Why Assistant Wang?" she asked, knowing she wouldn't figure it out herself.

Ghost Lin got up and sat upright, bending her knees, sitting crossed-legged. "It's obvious! Assistant Wang is like the typical ML in CEO novels!"

"CEO… ML… huh?"

"Male Lead!" Ghost Lin answered with conviction, raising her fingers as she counted the reasons she said that. "He's cold, aloof, good-looking, and smart! Can't you see that expensive aura exuding from him? If I didn't know them, I'd even think Assistant Wang is the boss!"

Devon couldn't articulate her thoughts upon hearing Ghost Lin's explanation. In her mind, comparing Lewis and Derek was like comparing, which was more powerful between fire and water.

"That's right…" Ghost Lin nodded in understanding as she was convinced by her claims.

"Did you spend the entire night with him?" Devon asked, intrigued.

Ghost Lin shot her a bored look. "Well, duh? Why would I? It's so boring there. He was working till late at night."

"Then, where were you the entire night?" Devon cocked her head to the side, knitting her brows.

Ghost Lin just glanced at her before she dramatically collapsed on the couch. "I was out fulfilling my curiosity."

Devon narrowed her eyes suspiciously. She wanted to ask more, but Ghost Lin was tight-lipped about it and that heightened her curiosity even more.

"Also, just so you know, Absent Qin actually asked his brothers for advice since you were mad at him last night. That's why I knew about it."

"What?"

"Don't take it in a wrong way. Clueless Qin is just clueless about how to placate a certain dummy." Ghost Lin rolled her eyes. Meanwhile, Devon pursed her lips and bit her lower lip.

'That was what he was doing last night before he apologized? Consulting how to appease me?' Devon's heart felt a little warmed up at the effort.

***

Time passed by and Devon didn't sleep after sending Lewis off. Agnes already came to clean the place and make Devon breakfast. As Devon waited for breakfast, deliveries from all her orders online came one after another.

"This…" Devon trailed off as she gazed at herself from head to toe in the full mirror.

"You look great!" Ghost Lin showed a thumbs up, nodding approvingly at Devon's maid outfit. "Put that one on your head, quick!" she exclaimed excitedly, pointing at the maid headband with white lace ruffles.

Devon reluctantly picked it up and put it on her head. A sigh slipped past her lips as she stared at herself in the mirror.

"Did you dream of being a maid before?" she asked, almost murmuring, as this was an odd request.

"Miss Lin, third young master is here." Agnes' voice came in from the outside after knocking on the door.

"Great!" Ghost Lin clapped excitedly. "Let's show him!" she rushed towards the door, looking back at Devon, who didn't move an inch. "Why are you just standing there? Let's give that third young master a scare!"

"Should I really need to show myself like this?" Devon pursed her lips, embarrassed to face Dion in this attire.

"Of course! We'll give him a heart attack!"

Devon frowned. "Did you have a grudge against him before?" she mumbled as she dragged her feet out of the walk-in closet to their room.

"Girl, cheer up. That's not the only costume we bought. Also, I always want to see myself in a maid costume," Ghost Lin said in a matter-of-fact tone, and Devon stopped when she was by the door.

"Then why didn't you wear it before?"

"Because it's such a hassle? I don't have as much energy as I have now." Ghost Lin shrugged.

Devon stared at Ghost Lin, which felt like she was just staring in the mirror. This reminded her that Ghost Lin had been suffering on her own and losing interest in everything was something Devon could relate to.

She took a deep breath and nodded. 'This is the least I can do for her,' Devon told herself. 'Did she say she wants us to give Dion a scare?' the corner of her lips curled up as Devon glanced at Ghost Lin.

When their eyes met, the two of them sported a smug grin. With no word exchange, they nodded at each other before Devon pranced her way out of the room.

Dion was on his phone, scrolling his social media account when he heard the door opened up. He didn't raise his gaze immediately and only said, "Sis, do you want to watch movies outside?"

"Shall we do that?" Devon smiled, planting her hand on her hips. She watched as Dion slowly raised his head.

"Yes! I also need to drop by in the… office." Dion's eyes dilated, horrified at Devon in a cute maid costume. "Ah, my eyes!" He snapped, covering his eyes in panic.

Devon frowned, puffing her cheeks as she raised a brow. "Do I look bad?"

"No! You look great, sis!" Dion yelled. "But I want to live!" If he told Lewis about this, Dion might as well bury himself six feet under.

"Heh. What a coward." Devon turned to Ghost Lin, who was giggling, seeing his reaction.. She smiled as it seemed Ghost Lin was happy, so Devon also felt happy.
