Chapter 82 - I Want To Misunderstand

"Oh, so charming!" everyone gasped as their eyes dilated, terrified. Did they hear a woman's voice complimenting their boss? Not that it was unusual that Lewis' got a compliment with his dashing looks, but what was unusual was he was video calling someone in the middle of the meeting!

"Greetings, Assistant Wang!" Devon greeted politely as she caught Derek's figure on the side. Derek sported a weak smile — it was barely even called a smile — and then he beckoned a neck bow.

Lewis cleared his throat. "Why did you want to see me?"

"Well…" Devon pursed her lips in a thin line. "I just thought you left this morning… without us resolving things."

'This morning…' were the exact thoughts of everyone. They were torn between listening or have an attempt to cover their ears. This conversation felt it was something they shouldn't listen to.

'Did the boss had a secret marriage?!' They looked at each other, reading each other's thoughts through their eyes as it wasn't impossible. Lewis never took a break in his entire career, and although the chances that he got married were low, it wasn't entirely impossible.

"Ah." Lewis nodded, as he wasn't surprised at her straightforwardness.

"Dion said, you will feel better if he snapped a photo, so I thought…" Devon trailed off as she looked closely at the phone as if she could see him up close if she did. "Do you feel better now?"

"Well, I don't know."

"Why?" Devon furrowed her brows as she saw him glanced up at the people, who immediately averted their eyes away.

Lewis hummed, staring at the presenter. Although the presentation wasn't entirely bad and actually made sense, Lewis was just not satisfied with it. He expected more, so he was thinking if he should give them a day or two to redeem themselves, or just entirely exterminate them.

"Some people are drowning me in disappointments early in the morning," He replied. "I'm thinking who should go first."

The air froze over with the nervous, anxious tension lingering. Everyone sat silently as if sprout roots grew around them and fixed them on their chair. Who goes first? Was that what Lewis had been thinking all this time? Who he should send to hell first?

"You, you should be kind," Devon murmured with a pout, unaware that everyone could hear her aside from Lewis. "Even if they made a mistake, I don't think you should dispose of people so easily."

Lewis raised a brow, cocking his head to the side. "Is that so?" Normally, he would argue, but not this time.

"Yes, everyone makes mistakes, and that's alright. Mistakes and failures are part of life."

Everyone telepathically guessed Lewis' response, 'I do not tolerate mistakes here,' as that was his iconic response. To their surprise, the power of love was too strong it broke the natural order of the world!

"Is that so?" Lewis nodded, while everyone's jaw dropped to the floor!

Angel. An angel had descended into Earth! It seemed the deity above had pitied everyone's soul that was why he sent an angel to keep the devil at bay.

"Give me a moment," Lewis said, glancing at everyone around before he ordered, "I want you to revise that and present it to me in three days."

"Yes, sir!"

"Don't disappoint me. Meeting adjourned." Lewis waved his hand, but not a single one of them moved; they couldn't! How could they? The king hadn't stood up yet.

He frowned, "go."

"Ye — yes, CEO Qin." They managed to respond. Everyone struggled in standing up as their knees were trembling.

"Derek, hand me an earpiece. I will stay here for a while." Lewis glanced at Derek, who only bowed and prepared what the boss' order.

Soon, the meeting room was almost empty, and the ones who were left inside were Lewis and a few employees who were tidying up the materials used for the meeting. He held the phone, his arms resting over the table.

Devon stared at him in silence until he set his eyes back on the phone. They stared at each other for a while, not saying anything.

"I'll accompany you for a while." Lewis broke the awkward silence between them.

Her expression brightened up. "Really? You will come here?"

"No." Lewis shook his head lightly. "If I could, I would, but Derek will torture me. So, I'll stay on the line, don't hang up."

"Ohh." Devon nodded ever so slowly, glancing at Ghost Lin, who told her it was better that way. She cleared her throat, trudging towards the bed, and collapsed on her back.

"Aren't you going out with Dion?" he asked, seeing her idling on the bed with her holding the phone on the side.

Devon rolled to the side, facing the phone. "My friend, are you really a busy person?" Her simple question seemed to surprise him, as Devon never asked him anything… random about him.

"Yes," he answered, and let out a deep exhale. "A lot of people and their families rely on me."

With thousands of employees worldwide, an hour for himself was a luxury. So, yes, he was the busiest person in this company.

"I see, so you're resting now?" she asked, which he answered with a nod. "Is it alright to rest like this?"

"Like what?"

"I mean if you're resting, is it alright that you're talking to me?" Devon clarified, a little concerned that he was straining himself just because he was worried about her. "Your brother will accompany me, so you don't have to worry."

"What gave you the impression that I'm worried?" he asked, eyebrow raised.

Devon puffed her cheek. "If you're not, then what?"

Lewis didn't respond immediately. Wasn't it obvious? He missed her, especially knowing how he messed things up last night. Should he admit it? He wondered internally.

"It's because…" Lewis trailed off as he heard a knock from her end, followed by Dion's voice.

"Sis, are you done? We'll go if you are." Dion's voice was muffled as it came from outside the bedroom, but Lewis still heard it.

Devon only glanced at the door and yelled, "Not yet!"

"You're not yet ready?" Lewis asked, furrowing his brows as he remembered she was already wearing a large white T-shirt and loose jeans — like her usual outfit.

Although it looked too casual, Devon could always pull off any looks. Maybe that's why Devon just put on whatever since she would look good on it. He thought.

Devon shifted her attention back to him. "I am, but you're still here," she said, pouting as it was obvious. "Your brother is not in a hurry, he said, so I want to stay here until you need to go."

"Ahh… I want to misunderstand.." Lewis scratched his temple, raising his gaze to the very few people still inside who were coughing. They hastened their movements when they sensed Lewis'
