Chapter 89 - Close My Eyes

"Yo, sis! How can you attract many people so fast?" Dion inquired as he cast Devon, who was on the front passenger seat, a glance.

"It's not me who attracted those people, but your friend, Mike." Devon corrected in a knowing tone. "He is quite popular, so how could I forbid him from inviting them over?"

"Just tell them off?" Dion's nose scrunched up as Devon's future position would be akin to a queen.

"And make a spectacle of myself just like what you did?"

His brows twitched at her response. "Sis, there's a reason I acted like that. It's my manager who escalated everything!"

"It is still embarrassing and painful to watch." Devon cast him a look of pity. "I pity your big brother."

"What?! It should be me who you will pity!" Dion gasped in disbelief as this had nothing to do with Lewis! It was Dion who was humiliated and was seen as the villain, and yet Devon was pitying Lewis instead of him?!

"You're right." Devon nodded, but her conflicted expression remained. "I just thought your brother really exalts you. So, it would disappoint him if he finds out you lack tact in your workplace."

Dion's entire expression squinted at the center of his face. Lewis? Thinking highly of Dion? Who would believe that?

"You seemed skeptical." Devon took notice of his reaction with a glance.

"That's because no one will believe that, sis." Dion shook his head because, for him, Devon wouldn't understand.

Lewis dotted on Devon, so he treated her entirely differently from everyone. It was not that Lewis ever treated them unfairly, but there was just always this invisible thick wall around Lewis that no one successfully entered or cross.

"That's strange," Devon murmured as she noticed Lewis' expression that night he mentioned about his brothers.

That night, they both shared a wine while throwing questions at each other. Devon noticed how Lewis' eyes softened when he mentioned his brothers. It was more like a mix of feeling sorry for them and how he tried to be a strong individual so he could be their shield from the strict family rules.

There was a brief silence between them as Dion drove to the theater while Devon just stared outside the window.

"By the way, sis." Dion cleared his throat to break the silence between them. "My big brother said you really got angry yesterday. What happened between you two?"

Devon slowly peeled her eyes away from the window and set them on him. "He is trying to get under my skin."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Well," Devon took a deep breath as she recalled what happened between her and Lewis last night. "He pulled me and I landed on top of him…"

Dion suddenly coughed aloud, causing her to pause. "What? He did what?!"

"He pulled me and I landed on top of him, then he accused me of being clumsy and tripping on my own." Although Devon didn't see that as a problem, that's where it all started. "And then, he started saying I should be careful around him and the like, before telling me to sleep."

"HA???"

Devon nodded as remembering it still sullen her mood. "I don't understand why he would say all those things after attempting to act intimate with me and then push me away. So I got mad and taught him a lesson."

Dion winced as he sucked air through his gritted teeth. How could Lewis sabotage himself!? Even though Dion said all that in his message to Lewis this morning, he didn't expect they were all true!

'Really, I think big brother is the bigger problem here than my sister-in-law.' He thought internally, as this problem he had denied in the past finally resurfaced. 'I think I should invite Big brother to dinner with Kai and Rio for a proper meeting and some classes to woo a girl.'

"Even when I thought we resolved things last night since he apologized, he was still awkward this morning," Devon murmured dejectedly. "I hope he will feel better later during lunch."

Dion stared at her side profile momentarily and felt sorry for her. However, some of her words lingered in his head.

"Sis, did you say he tried to be intimate with you last night?" Dion asked out of plain curiosity, as he didn't expect Devon to use the word 'intimate'.

Devon nodded and honestly answered, "I even thought he would kiss me."

"What?"

"His face was so close and the way he bats his eyes is very alluring." Devon raised her palm and showed him the distance of Lewis' face with hers last night.

"Wait, wait, wait!" Shocked by her honesty, Dion quickly found a spot to pull over before he faced her squarely. "Do you even know what kissing means?"

Devon frowned as Dion sounded as if she didn't know those kinds of stuff. She wasn't a child!

"It seems to me that you and your brother truly see me as a child," Devon replied with a poker face. "I'm not a… baby."

"Ah, I, no, I mean, the thing is," Dion stammered as he ran his hand through his hair, taking a time to process this revelation to him.

"Aish… this is why men are considered as a simpleton." Ghost Lin commented, clicking her tongue continuously as she watched and listened to their conversation in the back seat.

"I just thought… I mean, IF big brother did try to kiss you, what will you do?"

Devon tilted her head to the side as she pondered for a moment. "Close my eyes?"

"What?" Dion's eyes dilated and didn't blink for a good ten seconds.

"You sound surprised." Devon furrowed her brows, as the person acting innocent right now was Dion, not her.

"Sis, who wouldn't get surprised with that?!" Dion gasped as his shock was justified! "I thought you didn't want to be tangled in a romantic relationship?"

"I did say that." Devon nodded, as that was a fact. "However, you never asked me if I'm open to being in a romantic relationship with your brother... in the future."

Dion gasped with his hand on his chest, as his mind malfunctioned with all this information. Devon analyzed his funny reaction and let out a short chuckle before shifting her gaze back to the window.

"Although I'm not confident about my feelings right now, I always considered falling in love with your brother." A subtle smile resurfaced on her lips, as Lewis was not someone who was hard to love.

"Men are, indeed, a simpleton." Devon chuckled before cocking her head at him. "Believe me when I say women knew who they were dancing with the entire time. We just chose to see the good in everything.... even if that person we were dancing with is the devil himself."
