Chapter 94 - Too Comfortable

"Dion said something silly to you, did he?" Lewis asked as Devon kept following him around, and now she was even sitting beside him while they eat.

Devon shook her head innocently. "I just thought if you keep distancing yourself, I will have to make sure to keep the gap close."

"Who said I'm distancing myself to you?" his brows furrowed, leaning his side against the edge of the table as he faced her. "I'm just a little busy, but I'm not distancing myself."

"You believe that?" Devon raised a brow, doubt glinting across her eyes.

"Of course, silly." Lewis chuckled, raising his hand, and was about to stroke her hair when he stopped midway. He clenched his hand and discreetly withdrew his hand, but Devon suddenly grabbed it with both her hands and placed it on top of her head.

"See?" she said, pouting. "You're about to withdraw your hand, am I right?"

"I realized I touched the food earlier. So..."

"Liar." Devon frowned, staring daggers at him. "Am I bothersome to you?"

"What are you saying?" Lewis let out a shallow breath as he tapped his fingers against her head.

"I'm saying, I'd rather know if you feel uncomfortable around me that's why you're being strange so I can understand." Devon clicked her tongue faintly before brushing his hand away from her. "Telling me that everything is fine when it wasn't is disheartening. I won't know what you feel unless you tell me."

Devon faced her food and picked up the cutlery to eat. Lewis stared at her side profile for a while and sighed heavily.

"It's not that," He said, facing his food. "Actually, I feel too comfortable around you that you might feel uncomfortable instead."

"What gives you the impression that it makes me uncomfortable?" Devon raised a brow and cast him a brief glance.

Lewis shrugged nonchalantly. "I just know."

Upon his last remarks, Devon remained quiet and continued eating. It annoyed her that Lewis was too much of a gentleman that it was actually bringing more frustrations in this relationship.

"I'm finished," Devon announced in a low tone as she immediately took her plates and washed them in the sink. Lewis watched her from his seat while chewing his food down, knitting his brows as she seemed upset once again.

"I'm doing this for her own sake, though,' He thought, shaking his head lightly as he tried to finish dinner faster. However, he wasn't fast enough as Devon finished washing the dishes.

Devon dried her hands before walking away but stopped when she was by the exit of the dining area. She turned her head in his direction with her dull expression.

"Mike, Dion's friend, is inviting me to a party. I'm thinking of coming." She informed him. Lewis's shoulders tensed up, but nodded after meeting her gaze.

'I want to ask his thoughts about it, but never mind.' Devon let out another deep breath and left.

Once she left him alone in the dining area, Lewis leaned back and sighed heavily. He tilted his head back, scratching his temple in annoyance.

'I had heard about that friend she made in Dion's company, but it seemed he didn't only want her as a friend,' Lewis grumbled internally, pulling his head back and drilled a hole in the wall with his stare.

Although the thought of Devon having male friends annoyed him, Lewis wasn't the unreasonable type of person. He wasn't in the position to get jealous, and even if he was in that position, he didn't want to restrict her because Lewis trusted Devon.

"But alas…" He breathed out, resting his arms against the edge of the table while shaking his foot. "It's annoying to hold no control or power in this situation."

After he finished his meal and washed his own dishes, Lewis took his laptop and brought it to the bar counter. There, he drowned himself with workloads, accompanied by a glass of wine to distract himself. This method had been very effective so far as his mind soon forgot about the party he was not invited to.

Devon took a peek to see him working like usual. 'Should I bother him or just stop?' she wondered, sighing heavily as this had been their routine now.

At first, Devon thought it was because Lewis had to catch up on his work because he took a weeklong break. But now, it only proved that he was merely doing this as his way to avoid her.

"Will he overwork himself just so he could avoid me?" she murmured in annoyance, tapping her fingers against the wall and her foot against the floor. "He just needs to tell me and I'll give him some space."

This had been increasingly frustrating her on top of worrying her. Thus, Devon decided just now to set things straight. She slapped the wall for encouragement and pranced her way towards him.

"Mister Qin Lewis," Devon called, and he stopped typing on his laptop.

Lewis slowly raised his head to his side while his fingers brushed the keys. "Hmm?"

"Which is more important?" she asked, eyebrows raised. "That or me?"

Her question slightly took him aback as he blinked, mind buzzing. Did he hear what she just said?

"You have to choose now." She urged, planting her hand on her hip.

"Really…" Lewis sighed as he reached for the glass of wine and took a sip before putting it back on the side of the laptop. "Come here."

Devon raised both her brows upon seeing him crook a finger. Still, she followed his order and walked closer. To her surprised, Lewis suddenly grabbed her wrist and yanked her onto his lap. She instinctively clutched his shoulder and slowly looked up — wide eye.

"Too comfortable," said Lewis as soon as their eyes met. "This is what I meant when I said you might feel uncomfortable if I continue acting the way I want to, Devon.. I am about to lose my mind, and I might just snap if you keep doing this."
