Chapter 62 - Someday

"I don't like us arguing," Yul said, making Zeng look at him. "Let's not do that. We can do other things instead." He pulled Zeng by the waist and went in to kiss him but Zeng pushed him lightly by the chest.

"Get away, I am still in my hospital clothes!" He said, annoyed.

Yul shrugged, "I don't mind."

"But I do!" He spat, rolling his eyes and got up to go leave for the washroom, gathering fresh clothes. Yul frowned, looking at his retreating back.

"At least let me join you in the shower."

"No, you are so annoying."

"Come on, you liked it the last time."

"Shut up!" Zeng yelled from the bathroom, blushing at the comment as he slammed the door. Meanwhile, Yul chuckled in the hall. He shook his head.

When the doctor came out, patting his hair dry with a towel, Yul followed him wherever he went. He did not pay heed to the puppy that seemed to be going anywhere Zeng did. Zeng turned around and raised an eyebrow. Yul merely smiled, making Zeng roll his eyes.

It was time for dinner. When Zeng opened the fridge to check the contents, he found a bag of salmon. Yul brought it on his way back home. Zeng would understand if Yul would have brought his favourite food for celebrating his mission's success and would not be so surprised if it were anything else. But salmon? That was Zeng's favourite. Even though Yul wasn't a picky eater, he would definitely avoid the said fish if he could.

The doctor crossed his arms and just stared at his boyfriend, eyes demanding an explanation.

"What? I wanted to eat it," Yul said, averting his eyes.

"You don't even like it," Zeng retaliated in an instant.

"But you like it, don't you?" Yul said, shrugging. "I knew you would be upset with me getting injuries and I knew I'll have to make it up to you. So…" he trailed off and pointed at the fish in the fridge, "Let's have some salmon today."

The corner of Zeng's mouth twitched for a smile and he knew from the smile Yul gave him that he thought his plan was working. Like always.

He cleared his throat. "Are you bribing me, Officer Wang? You know that's a crime, right?" Zeng said coming over to stand before him, "What if I press charges?"

Yul snaked a hand around his waist, "As your husband, I have the right to bribe you."

"You are not my husband," he said, adding in his mind, 'Yet.'

"I will be someday," Yul said smugly, making Zeng's heart skip a beat.

He hit Yul on the chest which hardly made him budge. The officer rubbed at his heart where he was hit while Zeng blushed till the ears. Yul knew he had won him over. He always managed to.

"Enough flirting. Now help me with the preparations," he said, taking out the necessary ingredients. Yul was on his side in front of the counter and helped them in any little way he could.

Of course, even with his favourite dish being there, Zeng prepared something else for Yul. He had gone through enough for the day, at least he needed to relax at his home.

Yul had done cutting the necessary stuff. That was his only work in the kitchen. He wasn't allowed to do more for the fear of starting a fire. So he would goof around till Zeng was done.

He wrapped his hands around Zeng's waist and rested his chin on his shoulder with an upward tilt. "Are you taller than me?" He asked, pouting. He felt Zeng's shoulders shaking with laughter, "Of course, I am older than you by six whole years."

Yul frowned, "Are you calling me a little kid?"

Zeng laughed even more and bonked their heads, "No, silly. I am calling myself old."

Yul snuggled in the crook of Zeng's neck, "Whatever, I will catch up to you in no time. You just wait and watch."

"We will see," Zeng challenged.

"Enough talking. Let's eat!"

…...

"My mom-dad called us for dinner. Can you get a day off?" Zeng said as they went to bed. Yul was sprawled over him, cocooning him with his hands and legs.

"Sure," he said as his head rested on Zeng's chest, "We can go on the weekend."

"Alright, it takes three hours by train. We can leave in the morning."

Yul hummed. When Zeng looked at him, he saw him smiling.

"What?"

Yul snickered, "It feels like we are getting approval for marriage."

"You are overthinking," Zeng tried brushing him away. Yul was silent for a while.

"Don't you want to?" He asked, voice hopeful.

"I don't know, Zeng responded honestly, running his fingers through Yul's hair, "There is no use thinking about it. People like us can't marry." He said it simply without any emotion in his voice. This fact had saddened him for years. He couldn't comprehend the injustice imposed on a particular section of society who did not conform to the norms.

He did not understand why anyone could have any problem with two consenting adults marrying each other? Was it that big of a deal? Apparently, to some people it was.

Now Zeng was immune to it. The pain unknown people inflicted on his community, cornering them to a point they are even afraid to be themselves, Zeng was over it though he would keep on hoping to see a society where there was no bias regarding gender and identity and everybody had equal rights.

For now, he could only keep doing what he could. The hands of a healer saw nothing but the person in need. No gender, religion, orientation, status. Saving life was his one job and he would never hold any bias against it. It was his contribution towards forming an equalist society. He may not be able to change the world but he could make sure he was truthful to his principles.

A part of him had given up on making people understand. But at some point in time, if they did, millions of lives would rejoice in a freedom they had been striving for years, a freedom they had the birth right to but were unable to access because somebody decided against it.

"I would not mind," Zeng said after a long thought. "Marrying, I mean to say."

Yul actually blushed but Zeng didn't see it as his boyfriend's face was hidden in his chest. "I can get married," the doctor continued, "Buy a house, adopt a cat." He imagined.

"And a dog," Yul added. Zeng smiled at the suggestion. "Okay, a cat and a dog."

"And kids?"

Zeng almost forgot Yul's soft corner for kids. He would be a very good father someday. But Zeng was not so sure about himself.

"I don't think I can take care of children," he said frankly.

"You don't need to, I will," Yul countered, "Just be there for us. That would be enough." He smiled dreamily as the vision flashed before his eyes. A family of five in a house of his dreams, him and Zeng as parents, a much younger kid running around the house, playing with his two animal friends, a cat and a dog. It was a happy picture. He liked it.

"Say Zeng ge," he asked, "We can have it all someday, right?"

Zeng ruffled Yul's hair, hugging him closer.. "Someday," he said, hopefully.
