Chapter 3 - Novice Halo (3)
As soon as she had entered this world, #3 had told her that she didn't need to worry. She would be protected by the novice halo at the beginning and wouldn't be attacked by zombies.
Bei Nuan thought; why should she go look for the male protagonist then? Having the halo around was pretty good.
She walked for a short distance. After passing a few office buildings, she finally saw a few stores. As if she was shopping normally, Bei Nuan shopped one store after another. There was no one left inside any of them. The last shop was a medical equipment store.
This time, there were "people" inside. The two zombies dressed in uniforms were strolling the aisles, doing their best to find a way out. When they saw Bei Nuan, they ignored her. What bad customer service.
Bei Nuan ignored them. She found a cervical neck brace on a shelf and put it on her neck. The cervical neck brace was a plastic ring with soft cushioning that offered 360 degree professional neck protection - the zombies’ favorite part.
There was an assault jacket on the counter chair and a motorcycle helmet next to it. It probably belonged to one of the zombie staff.
Bei Nuan put on the assault jacket. It was obviously a man's jacket. The extra length meant that it reached her thighs. Then, she put on the helmet. The helmet and the cervical neck brace didn't fit well with each other, but she was able to make do.
There were several fashion magazine on the shelf next to her. Bei Nuan found plastic string and tied the magazines around her arms and legs. Japanese magazines tied around her arms and European and American magazines tied to her legs. Perfect.
Lastly, she rummaged around and found a backpack. There was a wallet and phone inside. Bei Nuan put on the backpack.
After she was done putting on protective gear, Bei Nuan looked at herself in the mirror.
Although she looked strange, compared to the people outside that didn't have time to prepare and were being chased and bitten by zombies, this outfit was excellent from top to bottom.
One of the zombie staff finally found the door and happily joined the horde of marathon zombie runners. The other zombie was still bumping around in the maze of aisles. Suddenly, it stopped moving. His focusless eyes slowly turned to Bei Nuan's direction.
Could it be that the novice halo had expired?
Suddenly, the zombie rushed in her direction.
Bei Nuan flitted to the side and discovered that she wasn't the target of the zombie.
The zombie went around Bei Nuan, rushed to the door, and went straight to a person that was passing by the store.
The passerby was a boy in a black hoodie and jeans. He had his hood up and the zipper of the hoodie pulled over his nose. Only his black eyes were revealed.
He was at the corner and moving stealthily, hiding from the zombies on the road.
He wasn't paying attention to this side. The zombie pounced on him like a hungry tiger, and he fell to the ground.
The boy raised his long legs and violently kicked the zombie. He turned over and began to crawl away.
The zombie was a bit stunned by his attack, but it refused to give up on the delicious food that was so close.
Bei Nuan walked over and stretched out her hand. Like a magic trick, a giant steel oxygen container appeared in the air. A steel container that was half the height of a person weighed tens of kilograms. There was no way that Bei Nuan's skinny arms could lift that up.
Gravity took effect. The container smashed down on the zombie's head without suspense, and the zombie stopped moving.
The hoodie boy stood up and kicked the zombie. Discovering that the zombie was really finished off, he sighed in relief. "So close."
He took another look at the steel container on the ground and was very moved. "You carried out such a big and heavy steel container to save me? You're so nice."
It was of course impossible for Bei Nuan to have carried that out of the store. She had taken it directly from her pocket dimension.
As soon as she had entered this world, #3 had let Bei Nuan draw for a special ability. She had gotten something good; a pocket dimension with two levels that were each larger than a warehouse.
# 3 had said that time was frozen on the top level, and food would automatically be kept fresh.
The original supporting female character didn't have this nifty ability. It was a pity that it was empty inside.
Before dark, City S would fall and become an infected area occupied by zombies. There was no need to leave any supplies for the zombies.
When she was shopping earlier, Bei Nuan had taken everything that she thought was useful into the pocket dimension. One of the items was the oxygen container.
Of course, the hooded guy had no idea about this. He looked over Bei Nuan's strange outfit. "You're well equipped."
That was true, her outfit was much better than his hoodie.
Bei Nuan was about to speak, but a voice sounded in her head, "Countdown to the disappearance of the novice halo, ten, nine, eight, seven…"
Bei Nuan: ???
The author has something to say:
Bei Nuan: So the guy that was knocked onto the ground by a zombie is the male protagonist?
Lu Xingchi (impassive.jpg): If he's the male protagonist, then who am I?
