Chapter 7 - It was as if she was a completely different person (1)
Bei Nuan was stunned.
Throwing a girl to the side of the road during a turbulent period was completely out-of-character for the novel's male protagonist. He had always been portrayed as very responsible.
Before Bei Nuan could speak, Du Ruo objected, "Lu Xingchi, you're sending her to death if you tell her to get out now."
Lu Xingchi ignored him and repeated, "Get out."
His voice was still as attractive as ever, but unfortunately, his tone was cold enough to freeze someone to death.
Bei Nuan quickly thought of a way to stall. "It'll only take over an hour to get to Ningcheng county. Can you at least send me there?"
Lu Xingchi's handsome face was iced over. He was completely unmoved.
She had to follow the male protagonist in order to increase her Holy Mother value.
This male protagonist was cold-blooded and ruthless. The soft approach wouldn't work on him, so Bei Nuan settled on releasing a tangible benefit as bait.
"There's a definite benefit to bringing me along. I have a special ability. I guarantee that I can help out during this chaotic time."
Lu Xingchi glanced at her. He didn't even ask her what her special ability was and just nimbly jumped out of the car, walked around to Bei Nuan's, and opened the car door.
"Do you want to get out on your own, or do you want me to drag you out?"
Bei Nuan wobbled her lips, trying her best to make the most pitiful expression.
However, Lu Xingchi had a heart of stone. As if he hadn't seen anything, he reached out to grab Bei Nuan's arm.
Bei Nuan avoided his hand. "Okay, okay, I'll come out."
There was no room at all to turn her situation around.
Bei Nuan grabbed her helmet and got out in an aggrieved manner.
Lu Xingchi didn't say a word. He closed the rear door, jumped into the driver's seat, and started the off-road vehicle.
The off-road vehicle went back onto the road. Du Ruo, who was sittin in the back seat, looked out the window and was uncharacteristically silent.
Lu Xingchi was well-aware that Du Ruo totally disagreed with his approach.
There were zombies everywhere. She would definitely die if they left her.
Lu Xingchi glanced at the rearview mirror.
She stood on the side of the road for a while in a stupor, then she started to slowly walk along the road. She was so small, but she was wearing such a large outdoor jacket and holding a helmet. Her pretty little face was exposed, and her gaze looked young and immature. Her long hair was lifted by a cervical neck brace and a bit frizzy. Magazines were tied around her arms and legs.
She looked so silly and foolish.
Behind her, City S was rapidly falling into the hands of zombies. It actually went very well with her strange look.
Black smoke was springing up everywhere in the city and rising into the already smoky black sky, and the sound of police sirens and car horns sounded from afar.
Du Ruo was right. She really looked like an abandoned robot in the apocalyptic days.
Lu Xingchi tried his best to clear out that little bit of softheartedness that had welled up.
He was reborn and knew very well that it was this Bei Nuan, who looked so weak and small, that caused everyone's death in the end.
At that time, Bei Nuan was timid and weak. She didn't speak much and couldn't look people in the eye. She was easily overlooked.
His focus at the time had been completely on how to deal with the sudden apocalypse, and he didn't pay much attention to her. He knew that she wasn't a bad person. She would be soft-hearted at inopportune times, and her frequent generosity would make others sigh.
There were times when her actions were a drag on the team.
Lu Xingchi treated everyone in the team as part of his responsibility, and she wasn't an exception to that. He felt it was his responsibility to ensure their basic needs were met and lead them to escape.
However, he would have never expected that she would make a decision without authorization to save others in the end. That decision had led to the death of the entire team.
From the very first moment of his rebirth, Lu Xingchi had no plans to pick Bei Nuan up to join his team.
Due to a freak combination of factors, he unexpectedly met her again.
Lu Xingchi glanced at the rearview mirror again. She looked different from before, but he couldn't put his finger on what had changed about her.
Perhaps, it was her expression and her tone. She pretended to be pitiful, but her slyness shone through. Or maybe, it was her pragmatic and ridiculous outfit.
It was as if she was a completely different person.
