Chapter 6 - Max-level Boss (3)
Anyone that saw this scene would feel sympathetic pain. Bei Nuan instinctively said, "Ow."
She suddenly heard a man's wild laughter.
What the h*ll? Bei Nuan trembled in fright.
That laughter sounded like something that would only come from a young female character in a Beijing opera. #3 wouldn't use that sound as a notification sound, right? Couldn't it be more normal and make a ding sound?
While cursing #3, Bei Nuan brought out the Holy Mother progress bar.
Sure enough, on the originally empty progress bar, that was a green line the width of a thread. Her Holy Mother value had actually risen.
Bei Nuan was a bit puzzled. Didn't she have to act like a holy mother in front of the male protagonist in order to get Holy Mother points?
The hoodie man asked Bei Nuan, "Where are you going?"
"Leaving the city. I'm going to the entrance of City S1's highway to wait for someone," Bei Nuan absent-mindedly answered.
"Ah? City S1? That's perfect." The hoodie man patted the back of the driver's seat. "We're going to City S1 too. Isn't that right, Lu Xingchi?
Lu Xingchi?
Bei Nuan returned to her senses.
The name he just called out was Lu Xingchi. The male protagonist of this novel was Lu Xingchi.
No wonder her Holy Mother points had risen. So this crossbow-wielding man was actually the male protagonist?
The novel had said that Lu Xingchi had a deep background. He was born in a prestigious family and had already settled down abroad. He came back to City S because he was visiting his close child friend, Du Ruo, and happened to encounter the zombie outbreak.
Lu Xingchi was excellent in all sorts of skills. All in all, he had the standard male protagonist setup.
Although the novel described him as handsome, the description of the male protagonist could be interpreted in countlessly ways by different readers. It was normal that Bei Nuan didn't immediately recognize him.
The issue at hand was that the male protagonist had slowly progressed in the novel.
So what was up with Lu Xingchi in front of her? They were at the beginning of the novel, but he had the aura of a max-level boss.
In addition, instead of obediently following the plot in leaving the city, he had run to the downtown area. What was even stranger was that the Lu Xingchi in the novel didn't use a crossbow.
Bei Nuan was full of doubts. She turned to look at the hoodie man sitting next to her.
The hoodie man had already taken off his hood and was smiling at Bei Nuan with his beautiful eyes.
Bei Nuan thought; this should be the male protagonist's friend, Du Ruo. These two had known each other since they were kids. One was cold and the other was warm.
Sure enough, he stretched his hand out to Bei Nuan. "I'm Du Ruo. What's your name?"
Bei Nuan quickly took off the motorcycle helmet and amicably shook his hand. "Bei Nuan."
As soon as she gave out her name, the off-road vehicle abruptly swerved and almost strayed into the opposite lane.
Lu Xingchi's exquisite and light-colored eyes appeared in the rearview mirror. His gaze fell on Bei Nuan's small face that she had just revealed.
His relaxed look had vanished. His gaze was sharp, cold, and unfathomable.
While Lu Xingchi was distracted, another zombie went flying from being hit by his car.
Bei Nuan was struck by inspiration, and she called out, "Oh no."
Sure enough, she heard another bout of unbridled laughter.
The Holy Mother value went up again.
Raising the Holy Mother value just by making a sound, it be a waste to not take advantage of it.
One after another, the zombies took the duty to rush towards the vehicle. Bei Nuan happily made plantive sounds and listened to the male voice in her head laugh like a row of Zhang Feis.
(T/N: Zhang Fei is famous for being a fearsome fighter and general.)
"Does your teeth hurt?" Du Ruo asked with concern.
"En, a little bit." Bei Nuan was even happier as she continued making plaintive "aiyo" sounds.
In a short time, they were almost at the entrance of City S1's highway. Bei Nuan tried to quickly think of a way to continue following them.
Du Ruo was also looking out the window. "Bei Nuan, you said you wanted to come here to wait for someone. Is that person here?"
He only saw a car whizzing by. The toll booth's small window was broken, the toll collector was gone, and there wasn't even the shadow of anyone else
Bei Nuan pretended to look. She furrowed her brow and said with a sad expression, "They didn't come. It's such a chaotic time. They probably abandoned me and left on their own. What should I do?"
Du Ruo immediately fell for it. "It's okay. Where do you want to go? Maybe we can take you there on our way."
Bei Nuan smoothly answered, "I want to go to Ningcheng county…"
Before she could finish speaking, the off-road vehicle made a sharp turn, braked, and pulled over to the side.
"Get out ," Lu Xingchi said coldly.
