Chapter 38 - You're blind (2)
"Then I want to sleep in a bed!" Du Ruo immediately signed up, but then he changed his mind right away. "Wait, no. A tent is better. It'll block the wind."
"You guys don't want beds?" Bei Nuan thought it over. Suddenly, a few bags appeared in her arms. She struggled to hold onto them. The bags were high enough to block her head. She tossed the bags into the tent and huffed as she pulled snowy white duvets out of the bags, then she told them to help out with stuffing the duvets into blanket covers.
"You must want eitherdown duvets, right? Put them over your sleeping bags, and you'll be so warm!"
While putting a duvet into a blanket cover, Du Ruo sighed with deep emotion, "Bei Nuan, you're like Doreamon. You're a thing that's definitely needed on trips."
(T/N: Doreamon is a blue cat automaton. He often takes out items from his pocket dimension for comedic plot purposes.)
What did he mean by "you're a thing"?
The two men carried Jiang Fei to the tent, leaving the jeep to Bei Nuan.
Bei Nuan pushed the car seat all the way down. She took out a blanket and pillow for herself, burrowed under the nice and warm blanket, and fell asleep.
At midnight, she was woken up by a rustling sound from outside.
Bei Nuan opened her eyes and was greeted with a big face squished against the jeep window. The face was pale and flat. It looked quite scary under the moonlight.
Bei Nuan trembled.
Without a doubt, it was one of those zombies that liked to lie on glass and peep.
Just as Bei Nuan was going to scream for Lu Xingchi, she saw a nail coming out of the zombie's forehead. This time, the nail had penetrated from back to front.
Bei Nuan sat up. The big face was gone, and Lu Xingchi was standing outside the car.
Bei Nuan quickly put on a coat, opened the door, and got out of the jeep. She saw Lu Xingchi carrying the zombie that wouldn't move anymore to the river and tossing it in. As she walked over, she saw the zombie being carried by the flow of the water around a bend in the dark river and disappearing.
"It's okay. Go back to sleep," Lu Xingchi lightly said.
Bei Nuan glanced at the river again, agreed, and turned to go back.
Lu Xingchi called out, "Bei Nuan, we'll be passing Jiangcheng tomorrow. I'll find you a relatively safe spot. You have a pocket space. The resources inside are enough for you to survive for a long time."
What? He still wanted to drive her away?
Before the hot pot had even finished digesting, he was falling out with her. He didn't even want such a big and good pocket space? Still, he had improved a bit from before. He wasn't leaving her on the side of the road and would find her a relatively safe space.
If she didn't follow him, she couldn't increase her Holy Mother value. Bei Nuan quickly tried to think of ideas. In any case, she should put on an aggrieved expression first.
Lu Xingchi stared at her for a few seconds, and then he suddenly leaned over.
He was too close. His breath brushed Bei Nuan's cheek, and she instinctively backed away, but he grabbed her shoulder.
For a moment, Bei Nuan felt as if he was going to turn into a werewolf under the full moon. Lu Xingchi lightly turned her around so that she faced the surging river.
"I told you a long time ago. I won't fall for your pitiful act. I'm not Du Ruo," Lu Xingchi whispered into her ear. His voice was sinisterly soft. "In fact, I don't have to work hard at all. One push, and you'll disappear. Tomorrow morning, I'll tell Du Ruo you ran away with the supplies in the middle of the night. That'll tie up any loose ends."
Bei Nuan blinked and turned her eyes towards Lu Xingchi.
"Yeah, you don't have to work hard at all," Bei Nuan said, "If you really want to get rid of me, why not just let a zombie bite me? Isn't that quicker?"
Lu Xingchi's expression was a bit embarrassed. She had ruthlessly pierced through his act.
