Chapter 88 - He was going to jump (2)
Lu Xingchi pulled over.
Everyone served themselves a bowl of soup.
The simmered soup had a strong smell and was a hazy white. The salted pork and pork ribs had been simmered until it was soft enough to fall apart. The tripe knots had soaked in the soup and swayed from its plumpness. These ingredients paired with the freshly dug bamboo shoots was enough to make people cry tears of joy.
In no time at all, the pot of yan du xian was gone.
Eating soup wasn't enough. Jiang Fei chopped up meat and made two pans worth of pan-fried dumplings.
Jiang Fei seemed to agree with Lu Xingchi's theory of using the promise of future food to keep Du Ruo from turning into a zombie.
Jiang Fei said to Du Ruo, "Hold on for another day. If you're still alive tomorrow, I'll make my grandma's best dish, fried pork with red fermented bean curd and bamboo shoots."
Du Ruo cheerfully agreed. After he finished eating, he threw away the bowl and chopsticks he used.
Bei Nuan knew that he was worried the virus could spread through his saliva.
They went back to the road. They had reached the boundary of Shuicheng.
Lu Xingchi asked Jiang Fei, "Your cellmate's son is at Shuicheng's university town?"
Jiang Fei nodded. "Yeah, his name is Tang Tang. He's a freshman at Shui University."
Shuicheng's university town was newly built two years ago. Campuses of several universities that were originally in urban areas were built in rural areas to revitalize vast stretches of unused land on the outskirts of cities.
Since the university town was on the outskirts of Shuicheng, it was far away from the bustling urban area, which meant there weren't many zombies on the road. The drive to the university town was smooth.
The campus occupied the largest area in the university town and was very conspicuous. Lu Xingchi drove the jeep to a side entrance and cleared out the zombies by himself. He wanted everyone armed to the teeth before getting out of the jeep.
Bei Nuan reached out to open the car door, but Lu Xingchi stopped her.
"Where's your stab resistant gloves?" He asked.
Bei Nuan searched in her pocket space for a while before finally finding the gloves. She explained with embarrassment, "It's so inconvenient to do things while wearing them."
Lu Xingchi didn't say anything. He took the gloves from her and put them on for her before saying, "Yeah, once you become a zombie, you won't need to wear gloves. You'll be free to do anything then."
He really didn't want to risk anyone getting hurt again.
"Where's your helmet?" He asked.
Bei Nuan obediently took out the motorcycle helmet that she hadn't used in a while and put it on. It was only then that Lu Xingchi would let her off the jeep.
As usual, Du Ruo asked Bei Nuan to take out his Ming Hong Blade.
The blade was too long and inconvenient to carry. Du Ruo rested the blade on one shoulder like Inuyasha with Tessaiga. If Bei Nuan didn't know that this blade didn't even have a sharp edge, she would think his posture looked quite arrogant from a distance.
Jiang Fei asked Bei Nuan for two short daggers.
Bei Nuan thought this was odd. Jiang Fei used a meter-long metal rod in the novel. He would fell his opponent with a single swing of his metal rod. That was Jiang Fei's signature move.
Perhaps, he hadn't met the rod he was destined for. Once he found it, he would probably change weapons.
In any case, the group properly geared up and snuck in through the side entrance.
"How are we going to find him?" Du Ruo asked.
The campus was a place where people gathered. Many people had probably been turned into zombies there. Trying to find a human or zombie on the campus was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Lu Xingchi answered, "We can only check if there are any survivors and ask them about the situation. Let's go check the dorms first?"
Bei Nuan thought; in the original novel, they had found Tang Tang in the dorms, but would their delayed arrival here lead them to miss Tang Tang?
