Chapter 89 - He was going to jump (3)
The state of the campus was very sad.
This was normally the best time of spring. Both sides of the roads were lined with blooming pink cherry blossoms, and pollen and flower buds dusted the dark walls and trees with a fresh yellow.
There were still figures walking around and dressed normally. Some of them still had their backpacks on, but their gazes were blank.
Bei Nuan discovered that there were times even Lu Xingchi couldn't bear to strike.
After they entered the campus, he did his best to lead them through remote parts to avoid the zombies. He didn't seem to want to kill these zombies unless he had to.
Bein Nuan wondered; was it because these zombies were in the best years of their life? Or was it because of Du Ruo's uncertain future that he was reluctant?
Still, if any zombies approached them, Lu Xingchi killed them without hesitation. He didn't want anyone else to get hurt.
His movements were quick, and so were Jiang Fei's.
Jiang Fei was almost fully recovered. He was stealthily holding a pair of daggers in his hands. His movements were nimble. When he attacked, it was as fast as lightning and never missed. It looked as if he was competing with Lu Xingchi.
As they navigated their way to the inner part of the campus, they suddenly heard a boy's voice from ahead.
It sounded as if he was singing with a loudspeaker. The loud sound felt very strange in the silent campus full of zombies.
Zombies were sensitive to sound. They all halted to carefully listen, and then they frantically rushed towards the direction of the sound.
Bei Nuan and the others looked at each other. They quietly followed after the crowd of zombies.
After they went across the campus, they could see the dorms up ahead. The voice from the loudspeaker was louder here, and it was accompanied by a sonorous and powerful rhythmic beat.
"I will carry the best sword, go across the highest peak -"
Swarms of zombies had gathered below one of the dorms.
On the rooftop of that dorm, there was a boy holding a loudspeaker with one hand and his phone with the other hand. He was singing to the zombies below with the music from his phone.
"Your majesty, my name is Dá lā bēng ba bān dé bèi dí bo duō bǐ lǔ wēng. Say it again. Dá lā bēng ba bān dé bèi dí bo duō bǐ lǔ wēng -"
(T/N: The lyrics are from the song, 达拉崩吧. Here's a youtube video of one person performing all of the parts of the song. It's about a guy rescuing a princess from a dragon.)
The rooftop was his stage, and he was engrossed in singing and dancing to the song. It was as if he was singing to his avid fans that had come here to listen to his concert instead of a herd of zombies.
After he finished singing, he bowed to the crowd below and said, "Guys in Building #11, I see you. There are no zombies at the entrance of your dorm. There are people guarding the metal gate in the cafeteria at the back of the campus. Go there!"
"The girls in 303 and 401, stop hiding! The zombies have already made a big hole in your building's door. Take this chance to run away!"
"Shui University's students, the zombies have all come to me. Take this chance, flee now! See you in the next life!"
After a pause, he shouted, "Li Yuhan, run!"
Bei Nuan understood why he said "see you in the next life."
He had attracted all of the nearby zombies to himself. Countless zombies were slamming themselves against the door of the dormitory.
Although it looked like the door was blocked by countless things, it didn't look like it would last for long. Countless zombies were eager to go up and devour their singing idol.
The boy put the loudspeaker close to his mouth and raised his hand to the sky.
"Let me see your hands. I'll say it again!"
"Your majesty, my name is Dá lā bēng ba bān dé bèi dí bo duō bǐ lǔ wēng -"
Bei Nuan saw people taking this opportunity to quietly leave the nearby dorms and run towards the cafeteria.
The zombies finally broke through the door blocked by junk.
The zombies pushed and shoved each other. They strived to be the first one to climb over the obstacle made by furniture and suitcases and into the dorm building.
The boy threw away the loudspeaker, walked to the edge of the roof, looked down at the swarming zombies, and then he looked up at the clear, blue sky.
In the embrace of the blue sky, he spread his arms like a bird.
He was going to jump.
