Arc-1 Chapter-13: What is Bad News?

The next morning--

"No way, ...is this..."

As soon as I woke I broke into a cold sweat. I noticed 2 things and both of them are bad.

"Yukiho, wake up."

I got dressed and tried to wake Yukiho up, but she kept insisting on 'Just a little more.' Since she wasn't waking up I started to pock her cheeks for a bit...

(I might as well go for it since I'm at it...!)

I decided to sneak her a kiss on the forehead. I moved her bangs aside and placed my lips on her forehead, and that moment Yukiho's eyes shot wide open.

"I saw it! I saw you do it!" Yukiho said while grinning.

"You're awake..."

"Fufufu, I was curious to see what you would do. Still a kiss on the forehead, that's just like you Daichi-kun~"

Yukiho gets up in a good mood.

"I'm glad you're so happy and all, but why don't you put on some clothes first?"

"Ah...!"

"Here." I said as I hand her a jersey.

"Tsk, I was hoping to tease Daikichi-kun into submission"

Yukiho grumbles as she gets dressed, and it appears that she didn't mind the fact that I was watching her.

"But more importantly, Yukiho, we have a big problem."

"What is it?"

"There's actually 2 problems, so which one do you want to hear first?"

"Oh, this is that of situation! You know the one in western movies where they go, 'I've got bad news and good news which one do you want to hear first?'"

"I wish it were true, but unfortunately, they're both bad news. "

"Eh?"

"One of them is life threatening, the other is not."

"Then, uhh, let's hear the better one first..."

"So, the non-life-threatening one?"

Yukiho nods.

"It's this guy." I said as I pick up the handheld camera on the ground.

"Is something wrong with the camera?"

"I don't know how it happened, but this camera was on when I woke up."

"EEEEEE!!?? But I turned of last night... didn't I?"

"I know. I've also checked it. There might have been some kind of timer set up. I don't know how long it's been on but it is."

"Then, could it be... that last night's exchange was..."

"Yes... But fortunately, the lens were pointed at the fire, so all it could have gotten is the audio."

Yukiho then collapse, her face is bright red and steam was coming out of her ears, all the while screaming, "Uwa ~a~a~a~a~a~a!"

"It's so embarrassing! What we did..."

"W, Well, they might cut it out."

"They'll never do that! This is a set-up by the president! I'm sure of it!"

I can see the president doing that I thought to myself. I mean he even left Yukiho here...

"Well, I'm just as embarrassed about this as you are...But--"

Looking outside of the pit house, I saw the tracks by the fire.

"--This island is probably inhabited by Wild Boars."

"Wild Boars!? Is that for real!?"

"Yes, you can see the tracks by the fire. From what I can tell it got very close to us, but it got scared of the fire and left."

"If we'd been attacked by a wild boar, we'd be dead, wouldn't we?"

"Maybe, or maybe it would have died. Since they do eat people."

"Eh? Really?!"

"They're omnivores, so they'll eat anything if they get hungry."

"Well then, I guess we own our lives to the fire."

"And the pit house. If it had been just a simple tent made of plants it would have just smashed through."

"That's..."

I left the pit house to examine the tracks and found out that they're still fresh, it probably came by at sun rise.

"Our ride won't be arriving till noon, so we have some time to kill. So, Yukiho, let's decide what to do in the meantime."

"What to do...?"

It's understandable that Yukiho is completely frighten by this.

"About whether or not we'll keep doing the program."

"Eh? What does that mean?"

"I'm sorry to say this, but the staff obviously didn't do enough research about this island. We found a meadow saffron, which is deadly, and now we have a Wild Boar on our hands. At this rate we could die if we continue. That'll be way to gruesome for TV in Japan."

"....."

"If you want to continue, we would have to hunt it down first. Fortunately, it is still close. So now is the time to do it."

"Er, what if we just leave it alone?"

"I wouldn't recommend it. We might have been save this time, but there's no telling what would happen next time. It's better to nip danger in the bud while we still can, otherwise we should get out of this business."

"Do you mind if I give this some thoughts?'

"Go ahead, I will support your decision."

While I'm waiting for her decision I started to clean the stone axe, when it comes to killing a boar, the knife and the stone axe is our best bet.

"Daikichi-kun, I've made my decision."

I turned around and could already guess the answer by the look in her eyes.

"You want to continue don't you? Even though this island is dangerous."

"Yes. I'm a professional, and I don't turn down jobs."

"Even if it means risking your life?"

"Well, normally I wouldn't but I'm with Daikichi-kun, so everything will be alright."

"Well, if you put it that way, I guess I'll just have to do my best."

"Let's have the best wild boar for breakfast!"

"Got it!"

We quickly made our preparations and headed into the forest in pursuit of the boar.

Yukiho and I both have the same equipment.

I have the stone axe in my right hand, and a knife in a holster on my waist with my left hand free.

The handheld camera is in Yukiho's backpack.

"This way."

We proceed without hesitation.

"I don't see any tracks any where, how are you finding them?"

"I'm looking for sighs of broken twigs or flatten grass."

"Amazing, you're like some kind of a pro." Yukiho's eyes were sparkling as she said this.

"I learned this technique from my Grandpa."

"Just who is Daikichi-kun's Grandpa? He owns a deserted island and knows so much. He is amazing."

"Maybe he just likes survival. Like the popularity of hotshot BASH, men like to explore deserted islands."

"Oh" I realized something as I said it.

"I'm not supposed to say any names."

It's etiquettes to not mention any other TV programs name here, especially shows with the same genre. Even more so with BASH, after all we're trying to take over.

"Don't worry, they'll cut it out!"

"I'm glad this isn't live TV."

"Me too. I'm scared of live TV cause the other day--"

I quickly covered Yukiho's mouth with my left and said, "Shh." Then I said in a small voice, "There is the wild boar."

In front of us there is a Wild Boar, one bigger than the average size at that.
